Ascent Christian provides an environment that not only supports, but encourages curiosity. Anytime I need assistance on an assignment, teachers are willing to sacrifice any amount of time to ensure I understand the material. Every class is centered around God, and I have learned so much about God and his love because of the teachers, staff, and students on campus.

My daughter is in K4 at Ascent Christian School. She is thriving. She is surrounded by people who care for her both spiritually and academically. I recently had our first parent teacher conference and her teacher was encouraging and willing to partner with me as a parent. All of the teachers have that same willingness to work alongside parents to disciple their children.

I also can't wait until my daughter is older and gets to participate in the outdoor adventure program. It is a program like none other. Students get to go canyoneering, backpacking, rappelling, climbing, skiing, and all sorts of things. By the time they graduate, they are capable of leading these trips themselves. I've seen a lot of self-awareness, work ethic, and compassion in these students.

Ascent Christian has changed our lives!! My son attended a different private school for years and while he was academically on track, my husband and I began to dread parent teacher conferences. It was the same story each semester: our son was doing well in his academic journey but struggled to listen to teachers, to stay focused and self motivated and to complete work he wasn't "interested" in. We finally took the plunge and moved schools and thank the Lord we did! After just one quarter at Ascent Christian, showing exemplary in categories he had spent years getting below standard in! The teachers and staff at Ascent Christian have poured into my son in ways that are monumental! My son is happy thriving and even sleeping better at night and we owe it the Christ centered environment at Ascent Christian! The academics are strong but more importantly my son is learning how to be a servant leader, a good friend and a responsible classmate! He has a chance to take risks in the classroom knowing his teachers will be there to support. I cannot recommend Ascent Christian enough!!

This precious school has the best atmosphere. It is a small Christian school offering PreK through 12th grade. The students are happy and full of life and the staff are engaged and present with each other and the students. The coffee shop on campus teaches leadership as well as marketable skills. It feels laid back while clearly focusing on academics. The unique adventure program offers opportunities to grow in knowledge and experience in the outdoor culture of the beautiful state of Colorado. It's not often you find a climbing wall and students repelling off of balconies or a class on Wilderness First Aid. Small class sizes allow for each student to get the attention they need to have every opportunity to do their best. Another great option offered to their students is the theater department. Students get immersed in the entire production process, so whether they love the stage or working tech they grow in their appreciation of the fine arts. This is a Christian school with a capital "C". It is the express intent of every class to experience Jesus and learn to make Him known. Students have the opportunity to worship and learn more about the faith they are developing through chapel, ministry opportunities and retreats. While it might not be a great fit for every family, I'm glad our family found this hidden gem.

We have attended this school for many years. We have seen ups and downs, but throughout it all we have seen our kids (and others) be incredibly well-loved, well-educated, and well-prepared for many aspects of the world. In addition to learning valuable skills of time management that naturally comes with the program structure, our children have grown in their faith and been challenged to think about it and the world critically. While no school is perfect, I see the intentionality behind all aspects of the school and know that the staff, teachers, and leaders approach everyone with prayers and careful consideration for the families they serve.

My two kids attended USCO school for 10 years. Both graduated. My older son has also since graduated college and secured employment before he even moved out of his dorm. I credit his academic success to the fantastic foundation he received at USCO. He was the leader in every college class that had group assignments and his degree stemmed from a class he took at USCO. He was able to find and foster his God-given gifts, even at this small school. Before we came to USCO, the public school had him pegged as "learning challenged" because he had trouble reading. They wrote him off and gave him comic book versions of the novels they were reading. The teachers at USCO held the bar high for everyone. It wasn't easy but he rose to meet it. Our younger son struggled with apathy for school in general as he got older. The teachers did their best to make assignments unique and fun. If it were not for the caring nature of his teachers and grace, particularly from Mrs. Sutherland, the head administrator, he may not have graduated. He was not anyone's favorite but not one of his teachers gave up on him. We are grateful. The 3 days on campus- 2 days at home model isn't always easy and it isn't for everyone. If you can make it work, it is a wonderful Christ-centered (non-denominational) option to the "who knows what your kids are learning" at public school.

In our 9 years at USCO with our 3 kids we have seen the administration be attentive to each need or issue and gracefully handle conflicts or grievances where the parties involved were willing and reasonable to support the best interests of the child and the school. This is the real and full truth about USCO, grounded in first hand multi-year multi-child experiences that are not always without bumps in the road since no school, child or family is perfect.

Our family has chosen to stay at University School for 9 years (that should tell you the belief we have in the school, its staff, their mission, their community and environment.) We have loved our experience, how USCO has shaped our kids into incredible people in an environment where people are kind and welcoming and actually care about the heart of each student and their total wellbeing. We highly recommend USCO to others if their goal is to have their children challenged academically while supported spiritually and surrounded with a culture of grace, love, and fun.

Its not the easiest school by far and definitely requires kids work hard to realize their fullest potential. And parents who will support them at home and encourage the student to take personal responsibility and strive to do their best. The teachers and other families do a fantastic job of supporting each family to be successful. If this sounds right for your family, then University School is for you.

I graduated from the university school and it seriously changed my life. I would not have the faith in God I have today without it. The retreats gave me the opportunity to encounter God like I never had before. I was attending the school when the administration changed and I now teach at the school. This change was incredibly positive and the school is only getting better. There is consistency in loving discipline that was previously lacking. There is God-centered council for struggling kids and so much more. It is a wonderful school, and there is no place quite like it. I am so very thankful that I had the opportunity to be educated in such a place with such a strong community. They do what their mission states, they ignite a lifelong passion for Christ! I cannot recommend this school enough. As a teacher, the training centers around loving the students well and helping them feel the love of God a little more each day. I struggle to put into words how special a place this is, they glorify God every day with their work. It is clear how deeply the administrators care for their students and staff.

This is my 5th year teaching at USCO and I have three children attending the school. We have been incredibly blessed to attend this school. It was my plan to teach at USCO because of the incredible experiences that my husband had when he attended the school. He experienced systematic bullying at a different school for his entire childhood, but for the first time in his life experienced acceptance, true friendships that have lasted since graduation, encouragement in his faith, and role models that portrayed how to live a godly life when he began attending USCO. This school stood out as a beacon in his education experience which is why I wanted to work at such an incredible school. My experience has only strengthened this opinion of the school in our minds. I have seen students who would be bullied mercilessly and ostracized at a traditional public school be welcomed with open arms, celebrated for their differences, and loved by the students and the community. I am so grateful to be able to send my students to a school where I know that their teachers genuinely love and care for them, are in constant communication with me about their academic and social progress and growth, and who seek the ability to constantly grow in their profession. My coworkers encourage me in my own faith, pausing in the halls to say a quick prayer for each other and offering genuine support and council to students. After teaching in a public school for several years, it is hard to describe what a blessing it is to openly pray with my students, hear praise songs being sung in the hall, and listen to the messages they have learned from in Chapel and on Retreats. I plan to send my children to USCO for their entire school experience and I encourage others to consider doing the same.

Two of our three children graduated from The University School. We feel beyond blessed that we found this gem of a school. It has such a unique model, and it offers so much that enriches students' lives. My son got engaged in the Adventure program. The fact that he could learn to climb, rappel, and adventure outdoors while in school was life-changing and life-giving for him. Our daughter got involved in the theater program. She was directed by amazing people. She would tell you that the experience of theater changed her life and prepared her for her future. The teachers at the school LOVE teaching and love students. Students are challenged to think critically. The hybrid model prepared them to be independent and proactive. They felt more prepared once they moved into their next seasons than anyone around them. More importantly, they were prepared spiritually. The staff nurtures students in their faith through the classroom, retreats, small groups, and play to build their relationships with Jesus. They developed deep roots of faith that have allowed them to stand up and not be swayed by today's culture.
There was a significant change in leadership a few years ago. The school has only improved since then. The administration has thoughtfully determined a vision for the future of the school. They appreciate and love the teachers, who in turn pour into the students. Coming from a different Christian school, it was so refreshing to experience an environment that focused on grace and the heart of students. Our previous experience focused on outward behavior as the most important thing. More than anything, we wanted our kids to leave school with a deep love for Jesus. If all they got was instruction on how to 'behave well' but didn't have a true relationship with God, all of the education in the world means nothing. Even when our son pushed up against some rules, he was met with loving and appropriate discipline that led to true growth.
The other thing that is so amazing about the school is the community. There are so many activities that bring families together. It sincerely feels like a second family.
We would highly recommend this school. Our kids would not be who they are today had we not spent the years we did at the University School.

We have been attending this school four years now and it is our second family. We truly love it! The admin and teachers genuinely care about the spiritual growth of my three boys. It checks so many boxes of what we are looking for in a WHOLE education for our kids. Im never surprised when so many former students come back to work for USCO because its such a special place.

I have all my children enrolled at USCO in various grades, K-12, and all are thriving. We transferred out-of-state from a homeschool co-op and this school has revitalized their eagerness to meet their teachers' high expectations. It is a joy to see my high schooler fully engaged and hear her reports about her favorite teachers. Another high schooler of mine has fully caught the academic bug and is thriving as she challenges herself in those ways . My elementary/middle schooler's assignments all feel grade-appropriate yet challenging, I highly recommend USCO to anyone interested in a Christian school with teachers and staff who are committed towards excellence, with a twist of adventure.

it is unfortunate that this school, though once loved by many, has become a place where the needs of the administrative staff and the board of directors comes before students safety and concerns. Families bringing more than 50+ pages of grievances before the board of directors and being told that all concerns were dismissed because they were 'unsubstantiated' is beyond concerning. Repeated recommendations to have 3rd party experts in the area of bullying and harassment and abuse, all adult and staff perpetrated against students was repeatedly ignored and dismissed. No accountability, nor responsibility taken by the administrative staff and board of directors, families not given the benefit of the doubt. The school's plan of action plays out repeatedly the same way... deny accountability and responsibility, reverse victim and perpetrator roles, try to coerce the family into compliance, and if that doesn't work, remove the family. Please be very cautious when enrolling your students here. My recommendation would be to run as far and as fast away from this school while Jen Sutherland is the Head Administrator of the high School and Nathan Salsbery is the head of the Board of Directors. if you disagree or bring a valid concern about any staff member, chances are that you will be systematically denied access to the people in your chain of command and will eventually be removed from the school if you don't drop your concerns and prove that you deserve to be restored back into fellowship. Don't let yourself be fooled by spiritual language that requires 'reconciliation', when there has been no owning of responsibility, no accountability, no repentance, no plan to repair any of the damage that was done, no mercy nor grace for your innocent student. If your children were harmed as a result of the power imbalance between staff and student and was used for the benefit of the staff and not the child, your child may need counseling to recover from the pain and hurt and betrayal. Some of the staff are faithful and stellar, and I am sad that they are teaching in a hostile and controlling environment. Our family attended this school for almost a decade, to only be denied admission for my child's senior year.

My first year at the school was smooth sailing but over time I began to observe patterns of bullying and shaming of students from the staff while the administration and board turned a blind eye.
They would see valid questions as challenges to their authority and would use God as a hammer for power and control.
They shame and bash students for asking valid questions concerning conduct. There is not a counselor present which puts children struggling with mental health in danger. Worst of all, this is a Christian school, what should be a place of Jesus is a place of fear mongering and shaming of truth unless it aligns with their truth. The conclusion drawn by me from these so called Christians is that Jesus is not at the foundation as he should be, its lust for control that lingers there.

We were very happy with the school until we questioned things going on in the classroom. We were told by administration that we should not question anything. The new administration is simply horrible and we no longer attend the school. Inconsistent Christian values at this school. Left us with a sour taste for Christian schools. The school made me think as we left of the famous saying I love your Christ but I do not like your christians. Would not recommend unless you are one that just follows the masses and doesn't question anything within the school.

Beware of the upfront smiles and promises of Grace and love. Once they have your money it's rules, regulations and ridiculous policies. As a parent you will be shut down and silenced if you question them or speak to their inconsistent promises. Admin will speak rudely to your child and when you ask to speak with them about it you will not be allowed. Your children will be manipulated and coerced with fears of suspension and expulsion. I am watching it happen. The kids are afraid to speak up because they are afraid to get on the bad side of admin.

My daughter has attended this school for three years. She loved the canyoneering and , as a family, we like the Christian focus of the school. However recently my daughter started getting bullied by a group of girls . Administration and a teacher promised they would stop the bullying , but it has become very clear that the administration has taken sides with the bullies! We had a meeting with the principal and, unbelievably, she along with the drama teacher have sided against my daughter. Basically, teenage rumor mills are a "he said she said" story with no proof on either side. Well, my daughter came out on the wrong side of that one even after a meeting with the principal that clearly showed no proof either way. This school plays favorites and the admin is amateur at best. If there is Christianity here, it did not show up in the practical management of a very typical bullying situation. Wow, very disappointing.

We came from a great public school but felt like there had to be a better option in which our kids could thrive as human beings. The public school experience felt robotic. Standardized. Empty. University School brought meaning back into my kids lives. It's a place like no other where everyone is loved and accepted and character is the first priority, not just grades or sports performance. There is a much more well-rounded approach to educating kids, not to just pass a test but to make good choices, live for a bigger purpose, and challenge themselves to do things they might not normally do. The small environment allows kids to stay engaged and interested in what's being taught as well as in the kids around them. My children went from sitting in the back of the room in public school trying to maintain anonymity to fully participating and even leading discussions at University School. One of the first things my daughter said after about a week at the school was how amazing it was that there were no 'groups' of kids such as the jocks or nerds or goths. Everyone just intermingled with everyone else. She said it is such a beautiful thing. Another unique aspect of the school is the creativity of the staff. There are several fun games or battle royals that are played during lunch or throughout the school days. And if you haven't heard, the graduating class of 2020 got to zip-line to receive their diploma. The leadership of the school works hard to align themselves with God's will in order to maintain an environment that brings Him glory. In my opinion, there's no other place I'd rather have my kids. With a mission to ignite a passion for Jesus, I believe there's no greater goal we should have for our children before they move on to adulthood.

The only thing good about this school I can recommend, is taking adventure classes & canyoneering. Other than that, I remember begging to be switched to a different school. The teachers were good to talk to, only if you fell under their religious point of view. Not what is morally right.

The one thing Im truly thankful this school has taught me, is to see who is truly evil under the religious texts & cookie cutter perfections.

If your child is different & needs somethings more, sending them to USCS is NOT the answer.

This is our third year at this school and I cannot say enough good things about it. Very loving, very nurturing, very structured. I have seen zero bullying, even with kids who are different - kids who would get severely bullied in the public systems. I love this place and recommend it for everyone.

Some are good or fine, but we ran into very distant (and unsafe) teaching as well as some borderline emotionally abusive teachers -- and I don't use that term lightly. What made the situation worse was that the disordered behavior of the teacher was framed in terms of religion -- students were taught that they needed to tolerate wrong because it was God's will. Admin seemed uninterested in examining teacher conduct. If you put your kids in class here, make sure you communicate well with them and be willing to remove them if you need to -- students may not tell you the teachers are behaving poorly because they are told disagreement makes them less Christian. This is the sort of thing that can really drive someone away from their faith.

Students themselves are often of very high character, but teaching seems oriented towards projecting an image, talking a lot of Christian jargon, rather than fostering true virtue. Bad student behavior (cliquishness, mean girls, etc.) is not recognized or addressed -- fortunately there is not too much of this because students normally come from families where character is important. But the school is counterproductive. You even get teachers treating other teachers in a disrespectful manner in front of the kids.

We had some good experiences with some great teachers, and there were a huge number of really fabulous kids there and some great families and parents. But the administration's disinterest in some serious staff problems has created a very toxic environment in some areas of the school. Oppressive and dysfunctional behavior is missed or ignored as long as the teacher covers it with Christiany-type talk. I agree with a great deal of what I see in other reviews here. This could have been a great school, it's a shame

Both of our children went to this school all four years of high school, and received excellent preparation for college. Our daughter just received her Bachelor's degree with highest honors from a large state university, and our son is excelling in his college engineering classes. The university model teaches invaluable time management skills, the Adventure program provides a wealth of leadership training, and the caring teachers and students foster an environment of compassion and service to others. This school may not be the answer for everyone, but it was THE answer for our kids.

I think there are two USCS's. If you are a favorite teacher or family or kid, you will think it is the best school ever. If you are not then you will have a hard time feeling like you matter and you and your kid will struggle. There are some teachers that challenge students but a lot are too relaxed. They don't ask the children to be really excellent in schoolwork or in how kids treat each other. It seems like the principal's favorite teachers are the relaxed teachers. If your kid is not already really serious about hard work and learning before he comes to the school then he will not learn to be like that there unless it comes from you or maybe one of the hard teachers.

I am a current student at USCS and have been attending since 2007 and wouldn't change any of it. This school has changed me and brought me closer to God and the reality of His love and grace towards you. Students that attend this school are accepting and always fun to be around, the staff is amazing and are always free to help and talk with you. This school exudes Christian beliefs and principles, and Christ is always the center of our studies and chapels. Teachers are always willing to help you if you need any help with homework or understanding topics that where discussed in class.

Not a fan of this school at all. There was so much favoritism shown by the principle (who is unprofessional, and uninvolved, except to his favorites) and teachers who couldn't control the classroom. So full of hypocrites... The staff and students call themselves christians, but they treat outsiders with disdain and rejection, there is no sense of community. The chapel times are all talk, no walk. I attended this school for four years and I came out of highschool wishing I had just gone to public school.

have been at Uscs for 7 years and I really enjoy this school. everyone here is always kind and welcoming. i love this school mainly because we get to pray, read the bible and talk about Jesus and most schools don't get to do that. also its really cool how our school goes on camping trips and we get to do zip lines, repelling and learn how to set up tents!I Love Uscs i don't think ill go back to any other school now that i see how awesome USCS is

It is a warm and caring school. The teachers care deeply for their students and do all they can to help them succeed. Unfortunately the school does not prepare the students for college. They don't have a guidance counselor who sits with each student to review grades, college applications, deadlines, SAT or ACTprep, goals, future plans etc. If they could only make this an integral part of high school, the school would deserve 5 stars

I attended TCA (The Classical Academy) from 2nd grade to 9th grade. I was not the best of students at that time and my grades reflected my discouraged spirit. I gladly left TCA and attended the first year of University School of Colorado Springs in 2006. What a difference between a big school with big classes and a small school with small class sizes. Through the amazing staff at US-CS and God working in my heart, I began to understand subjects and really learn the material. I went from being a C,D, and F student to an A, B student. US-CS prepared me not only for the the academic challenges I have come across in college but also the spiritual ones. I am amazed by how many opportunities have come up to share the gospel in my college classes, and I currently have a 3.8 GPA. Overall, I praise God for being so good and bringing US-CS into my life.

There are (obvious) differential treatments from various administration towards certain students and families. This school is not accustomed to handling any issues that arise in a positive way. To ignore situations, in hopes they go away, seems to be the norm. Do not think outside of their box. There are, however, some great teachers who don't participate in their hypocrisy.

Love this school! My son has been attending this school the last six years and he loves it! How many high school students do you know that love going to school? That is amazing in itself. He is challenged academically and spiritually in his classes as well as in the adventure class. He has scored very well in achievement tests each year which I do credit, in part, the excellent teachers. While it is a small school it has given hugely to the community and other organizations world-wide. We are so blessed to be part of this family.

USCS has a unique way of relating to students, families, and the faculty. People that are use to the traditional institutional mindset of school may find it difficult to relate to. However, if you desire a place where the faculty truly love the students, desire them to grow in their faith, and excel in academics, this school is for you. Highly satisfied and encouraged regarding the new additions to the administration and the future of the school.

Great Christian school. small classes, attentive teachers. My son has grown spiritually and academically. Is learning to be responsible outside of the classroom with 3 day class schedule (yes they have school work the other 2 days). At first he did not want to go, now he can't wait to go back after summer break. Scored very well on achievement tests which supports academic soundness. Wish I could have gone to a school of this kind.
