My child has attended CMJH, and unfortunately our experience has been consistently disappointing, both with the staff and the school overall. As the only option in our area, we've had no choice but to continue, but if you have access to other junior high options, I'd strongly encourage exploring them. Your child will likely have a better educational experience elsewhere.

This school has so many problems. It’s not a safe space for lgbtq+ students or students of color. The teachers are very nice and accepting but majority students are not. This school has a high depression/anxiety and drug abuse problem among the students. As it is a great school learning wise the environment is not great.

I was a student here 11 years ago. The school is great academically and the teachers care about their students succeeding in the classroom. The athletic department and staff were also really good as well. Where the school fell short in my opinion however was the acceptance by the students of newer or different kids. A large demographic of the students come from wealthier and upper middle class families with kids that have grown up together their whole lives. Being judged or flat out ignored by these kids is something I experienced throughout my years here. As a former military kid I was used to meeting and getting along with people from server a schools and background types. Many kids in this school district were the only ones I really struggled making friends with . Given , I did make some friends down the road there. By and large it was far more difficult trying to fit in with these people opposite to other schools I attended. I was a pretty easy going kid, so I wouldn’t say my time was as bad as ,compared to other kids I observed in the schools socially atmosphere. Anybody who could been seen as a weird or quiet was very obviously shoved to the sidelines of the social sphere. I first hand witness kids being physically bullied on the school campus. Belittling and negative sarcasm was held over the backs of many students who didn’t fit the the correct acceptance standard. I found people there to be a bit more mean and unfriendly.

But of course there were many nice students as well. And I did make some good friendships there. But undoubtably it’s a school that is largely accustomed to having kids of one similar background. Primarily Wealthy/well off athletic white kids, who have grown up with the same friends since kindergarten.

I have two kids that went to cmjh. Fantastic school! Your kids wil be challenged by great teachers! The teachers and principal are amazing.

This is an exceptional school. The atmosphere is very positive and inviting with open and approachable principal and vice principal. Lots of very caring teachers willing to go the extra distance. There is an expectation for hard work and academic excellence.

I am so sad to see this school hasn't changed since I left. Basically if you don't have cash to flash, avoid this school. I was bullied for being average. Average is balanced. Average is healthy! School staff do not support children that are bullied (I assume it's to avoid crossing the wealthy parents in the area). I still suffer anxiety & other issues after my time at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School. A very parochial place that is ineffective at tackling bullying and breeds a culture of nastyness towards fellow man/womankind.

My children are in 8th grade this year. One of my children needs special accommodations (504) and the school has been great in offering them. My other child is more "socially" involved and focused on friends. If my children were challenged with school and homework or had relationship issues, I'm not sure this would be the school for them. There is a lot of social pressure and a keen awareness of the kids who "have" money and popularity in this school. The education is superb for my kids and they are doing well.

The accomodations are about the teachers not what the student needs. Your child will always be made to feel wrong for needing help.

Google classroom would make homework easier to turn in rather than lugging 7 separate binders and a ton of paper back and forth every day.

Not impressed with their ridiculous rules that impede a students education. The district seems to assume that every parent is independently wealthy and can afford their high priced activities at every turn. No school buses in this district. The pick up and drop off line is insanely idiotic. Rich kids don't know how to get out of a car fast. We have been in "low income" areas where the teachers were more engaged, the buildings were nicer. A cafegymatorium?? Yes really! How poor are you that you have to roll out a chafing dish to heat lunch in? Then hurry to put it away so PE can take place in the same room. Upgrade to Google classroom, stop using a paper planner, give tablets. Teach these kids how to live in the digital age.

CMJH has many expectations for their students, and their expectations are higher than most other public schools I have been to. If you're one of those students who struggles with more difficult classes, you might have some troubles with this school. If you're one of those students who are independently able to get great grades, you will do just fine at this school and will be prepared for High School. From my experiences, some of the children attending CMJH have harrassed and bullied others. Though, it is continually reminded throughout the school that bullying and harassing is not the right type of behavior. Theres also a program (first started by a student who was affected last year) that reminds 8th graders to stop bullying and harrassing 7th graders. I think it has worked very well so far. In addition, the principal was awarded a Principal of the Year award last year, which is pretty impressive since the award was out of all the Principals in the state. Theres also some pretty good classes for both 7th and 8th graders, especially the art classes. The teachers are cooperative most of the time, and the most of them are friendly and laid back. This school rocks.
