I was very skeptical to go to the school but I can strongly say my opinion has completely changed after having my daughter there for 6th grade she will continue the next two years. Dr Clayton the principal is amazing, the staff has been great. And all they have gotten a lot of new stuff this new year and I am hopeful to see the continued positiveness we have experienced. She is in sped and on an IEP. Any questions or concerns I've had they have clearly reassured me and explained where I feel very comfortable having my daughter there. She is happy to go there she's thriving and growing there. I would strongly encourage you to get involved in the PTA. Mr O in the sped department is phenomenal along with a couple of other teachers in there. The dean of students which is also the wrestling coach is very encouraging and inclusive along with his assistant coaches that are teachers too. Don't let past staff students or stories deter you from going to the school. Be open-minded and try it out for yourself like I did. We are very very glad we did.

My son has been going to the school his whole Middle School career and he's about to graduate to go to high school this school has been very uncooperative and not easy to get a hold of connecting with them is almost impossible they don't tell me when things are going on I missed so many awards ceremonies not only that but my son is autistic and I feel like they discriminate against him he doesn't get to participate in certain things just this morning he told me there was no school cuz the teacher told him not to come because there's a Medieval Festival and they didn't want him there to deal with him not only that but my son has come home a couple times acting very weird and he told me some of his friends gave him some blue and green pills that made him feel funny and the school is apparently doing nothing about that I have tried to reach out to the school about lost items of my sons with nothing in return he has not come home with two water bottles and a very expensive rain jacket and they have never gotten back to me even though I have left multiple messages I would absolutely not recommend taking your child to the school as they come across to me as discriminatory hard to deal with detached and untrustworthy

I would absolutely not recommend sending your child to this school. In previous years they have talked about making the school a better learning environment, this lead to excessive rules and punishment. Most teachers rude and nearly care about their job. Some teachers even talk bad about the school, and around 5 teachers are quitting this year from my knowledge. They give excessive punishment such as detention or suspension for forgetting a yonder pouch which is a piece of fabric that we are supposed to lock our phones in. We get in trouble for little things. Some things I dislike is the food either it’s cold burnt or generally not good. The passing period is only 3 minutes and teachers expect us to use the restroom or take a drink of water and be on time. They do tardy sweeps which means the teachers are supposed to lock their doors and the kids who were nearly at the door have to call their parents and get suspension. Some teachers are very rude and disrespectful. Some even don’t teach the class what they’re supposed to be learning and just put our faces in a computer and expect us to learn that way. The grading system is also messed up, if you have a B+ in a class and get a bad score on one test your grade drops down to a D- . Also bathroom rules are very strict, you only get to use the bathroom twice a day you have to sign off of a electronic and wear a neon yellow vest. I think this is an unacceptable rule because if a student needed to really use the bathroom, they can’t. This school is one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had and would never recommend this to anybody.

I strongly advise against sending your children to Sabin. My experience with the school has been deeply concerning. Many staff members come across as rude and condescending, often seeming disengaged or frustrated in their roles. When students ask for help, they are not always supported, and if a child struggles to learn in a particular teaching style, the blame is often placed on the student rather than addressed constructively.

The disciplinary environment feels excessively strict. Students are threatened with suspensions, detentions, or other punishments for minor issues that could easily be resolved through conversation. There have been instances of staff raising their voices, scolding, and speaking to students in ways that feel unnecessary and disrespectful.

The structure of the school day also raises many concerns for me. Students are given only about 20 minutes for lunch, which includes time to get their food, sit down, eat, and have any form of break or recess. I have more time to eat at work than kids in a middle school. You can even get punishments for talking during lunch; in some more severe cases, being banned to sit where you want or even talk with your friends. There is little to no flexibility, and even being a few seconds late after the bell can result in serious consequences, including being escorted by security and having parents contacted. This creates a stressful and restrictive environment for children.

Additionally, simple questions or attempts to clarify things can sometimes be interpreted as “talking back,” leading to even MORE disciplinary action. While I understand that teachers are often overworked and underpaid, that does not justify taking out frustration on students.

My daughter frequently comes home upset, sharing negative experiences involving both staff and other students. Bullying appears to be an issue, and I am also concerned about reports of substance use among students. What is most troubling is the lack of compassion shown toward children, particularly those with disabilities or mental health challenges. Instead of receiving support, they may be singled out or treated unfairly. I have tried to reach out with my concerns, and I have been responded with eye rolls, scoffs, ignorance, and empty promises.

This school’s reputation exists for a reason. If you care about your child’s well-being, I would not recommend Sabin Middle School. No child should feel unsafe or unsupported in their learning environment. Period.

This school sucks! We barely have any time to eat our food(about 20-25 minutes for lunch), and if we don't finish, for kids who have hot lunch, have to waste food that we could've finished with just more time. We are also required to go outside, even when student's say we don't want to. We used to be able to sit on the stage in the cafeteria if we didn't want to go, but apparently we weren't even supposed to. Just one of the staff member let us when they weren't really supposed to let us. Oh, AND we aren't allowed to go to our lockers except the beginning of the day, before lunch, after lunch, and the end of the day. And if you get caught using it, your locker can get re-coded and the student won't be able to use the locker anymore. The yonder pouch policy here too sucks as well! If you forget it, you could risk GETTING SUSPENDED. Yeah, over some stupid piece of fabric you put your phone in! You first get lunch detention the first couple of times, but it's still dumb that they are willing to suspend kids over it, while others that harm the school aren't getting punished(or VERY LITTLE punishment). We also have 3-minute passing periods, but yet we are expected to use the bathroom and get water during that amount of time. It usually takes a person 2-3 minutes to use the bathroom! But yeah, that's my review on the school. I won't recommend it right now, but if they start fixing what they're doing, then I'd give them a chance. Right now though, they're just making it worse. Wouldn't recommend if you want your child to actually enjoy school and be safe there during this time.

First of all they have a very strict dress code for a public school. They won’t allow you to wear pajama pants which is very confusing because why is that against dress code? Also you can’t wear ripped jeans which is stupid too. This school is a really bad school overall.

This is a school where you have to worry about teachers and students putting hands on your child. When cornered woth nothing to do but defend themselves they are punished. Worst school ever.

Some teachers are good. But there is rules that seem harsh. Like punishments for talking during lunch, or how kids are kicked out of the cafeteria to go outside. They are not allowed to take food out with them, but are also not allowed to stay and eat if they need to. There isn't enough time for kids to eat so parents who were doing hot lunch are now doing cold lunch just so their kid has enough time to eat in the 25-minute lunch time. The principal told me my kid had 25 minutes to eat and that she was chatting with friends like it was her fault she didn't have time to eat. It still feels like their are trying to rush kids to eat quickly. They have three minutes between classes. And are still required to use the restroom and get water during this time. Not sure if it is just this school or the entire district. But I've heard that the kicking kids out side and shortening their lunch time is a district thing. My kid comes home stressed out daily.
Often even with their anti-bullying stuff, they don't do much for kids with this. I had to go to the principal to get anything done and that was with the last one. I don't feel the current one would do much.
I'm also afraid I don't have another option but to leave my kid in this school. If you do, don't put them in this school.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. My has attended the GMP program since the 6th grade here. The GMP program itself is fantastic. That said, this school is terrible with admin that do not care about your students. My son was allowed to be assaulted and bullied all year this year. They claimed they had no knowledge of the bullying that was occuring during school hours on school grounds. A student had to anonymously report it to Safe2Tell to even be on their radar. The Gifted Magnet hall doesn't have as much security as the rest of the building, which is a shame. Your kids aren't held to the same safety as the rest of the school. When we asked the staff, namely the principal how this could happen all year without staff knowledge, since it was physical and during passing periods, she victim blamed my son and said he should have said something. My husband had to go to the area superintendent to even have a meaningful conversation. Once the safety and leadership issues get resolved then Sabin could be a wonderful school, but it kind of sucks this is one of the only options for the GMP kids.

My 7th grade student loves this school, and all his teachers this far are amazing. I have no issue reaching them when it comes to him and his schoolwork. They also reach out if they need anything which is great! With this good communication and effort on all parts my kid is doing amazing in school after some tough times outside of school so thank you to everyone at Sabin!

This is a TERRIBLE school. It deserves zero stars. They DO NOT treat all students equally. They're bias about the students. They already have it made up in their minds that some students are simply misguided. So they overlook poor behavior and enable them. While other students are viewed as undisputably troubled. So no mercy is shown to them and they rule with an iron fist. And the history teacher conveniently skipped over black history month every year. Hmmm, wonder why.
My child has personally experienced prejudice and bullying by some students and some staff. And nothing was done after they were made aware of this. I DO NOT recommend you send your child here. It's just not a good school for certain students.

I have two students in this school and it has been phenomenal for them! The principal Mr. Carragher is amazing, he has a patient demeanor and you can tell he truly cares about the students. Most of the teachers have been wonderful and my kids like them very much. There’s a robust offering of clubs and activities, and I like that the student body is very diverse. I absolutely love Sabin and am so happy to see my kids thriving there!

i went to this school its fun i love MOST of the teachers people don't like this school mainly cause there bad students and see the punishing side of the school instead

School administration and counselors are slow to respond or just don’t respond to emails. Teachers do not communicate with parents until it’s too late to help the child. My son loved school and was always happy and ready to go. 3 months at this school he began to decline and things just got worse. Bullying goes unchecked and teachers are not seeing the whole picture or taking action to resolve it. Counselors are unhelpful and waste of tax money.

My son is on the Gmp program here. He loves all his teachers. I really appreciate the administration at this school. They are very open to suggestions.
