The bus ride drops my son 20 minutes away from home on a busy street with registered sex offenders in the area. My child is only 9. This school board and transportation is absolutely putting children in unsafe situations. This needs to be investigated because this cant be the only poor unethical and nonsense. The transportation guy only could say its within guides to make children walk a mile unattended at busy intersections. Terrible. Who comes up with this logic, someone who has something against transportation or ensuring children make it home safely.

I would highly recommend any family member or friend to send their child to Monroe Elementary! Here you will find a kind and compassionate staff who are genuinely passionate about teaching their students. Not only is this school rated as a performance school, the highest rating that a public school can be given, but also the children consistently are found to feel a sense of belonging here. Some of the most excellent elements in my opinion come from the school's special programs, such as art, music, and drama, as well as the strong social emotional curriculum taught here. There is lots of opportunities for parent and family engagement such as the PTA, monthly parent events, and community partnerships with organizations such as Care and Share. If you are in the area and have any question about where to send your child to school, Monroe is the perfect place for you!

If I had the option, I would rate Monroe Elementary with -5 stars! I understand that it's a Title 1 school, and therefore has impoverished, low-performing students. Notwithstanding, there are many Title 1 schools in the district that have excellent principals, assistant principals and teachers who provide a nurturing, positive environment that promotes academic success. This is NOT the case with Monroe Elementary. Most of the staff members are old, frumpy, RUDE, and not passionate educators. I feel sorry for families that do not have the economic means to choice their children in another school.

My kindergartner (now 1st) will not be returning to this school. He spent more time away from his teacher than with her. When I had questions about things in the classroom the teacher would refer me to her helper who actually knew what was happening and was with my student all day! Occasionally checking in, the teacher would be on her phone and the class was watching movies on the carpet. At graduation she called my son the wrong name twice- at the end of the year NOT HAPPY.
