I had 3 kids go through this school. The first did fine but I think what changed was the principal retired and the replacement did not handle things well.
The second had a Horrible time with bullies. They were Horrible with dealing with bullies. They just didn't care.
My second child her teacher didn't like me and had a vindictive way of handling it. She put our family through hell.
Do not send your child here.

I was a student here and the teacher are not very helpful and they have there favorites the school also has some kids who do weird things I would not recommend this school

My daughter is in 4th grade and has attended the school since kindergarten. We’ve had a great experience with the teachers and the staff. The teachers really care about the kids and want them to succeed. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Martinez is a great school!

Our family has been at Martinez for 4+ years, and we really can't say enough great things about the staff. There's a sense of community that feels welcoming to all students, and my kids feel known and valued. Top notch, caring teachers and support staff make it a place I feel great about sending my children every day. Martinez has a great Gifted and Talented program, an active PTA, and they're a Lighthouse school, meaning they teach the 7 habits of highly effective people as a part of their curriculum. They've also just implemented a first-in-the-state Dance program that the kids are thrilled about. In my experience, the teachers are very communicative and my kids have been really happy there. Highly recommend.

This school has been extremely great. My student is given the tools to excel and be their best. This school is not in my normal school zone, so I go the extra distance because it has been a great school.

I have two girls currently attending Martinez and we have been going for three years so far. This school is a hidden little gem. I’m so pleased with the quality of teachers and staff. Mrs Long, the principal, believes family is very important. This school has great family involvement. The principal does a fantastic job instilling the Leader In Me program which builds confidence, character and gives the students values. Mr Ford, the assistant principal, has such a great rapport with the students. They all seem to really relate to his fun-loving spirit, yet he has high expectations for the students too. Both of my girls are excelling in their school work and enjoy going to school, which is an indicator that Martinez is giving them a love of learning.

Martinez Elementary is a "Leader in Me" school. The Leader in Me creates a culture of empowerment that prepares each student at Martinez to excel in school and teaches them how to lead and affect change. In 2015, Martinez Elementary achieved the Lighthouse designation, which means they have achieved outstanding results in the implementation of The Leader in Me model. Less than 10 percent of schools participating in The Leader in Me process have been awarded the Lighthouse designation. Martinez is the only school in Colorado Springs to have this designation.

I can’t say enough about the wonderful experience we’ve had at Martinez Elementary. Our daughter has attended Martinez Elementary School for three years now, and she’s grown by leaps and bounds both socially and academically. Just a few of the things that we love about this school include its small class sizes, innovative learning and leadership programs, and its wonderful teachers and staff they are nurturing, dedicated and incredible educators. Our daughter loves going to school and we feel lucky to have found such a wonderful school right in our neighborhood.

The principal is so nice, but if she is aware of how little is being taught in her school, she should do something to change it. Nice goes so far, but there needs to be more learning going on there.

My student did not learn much at Martinez Elementary. We live very close, and we are planning to put my student into another school district for this coming year, in hopes that he will excel. This school is set up very well for kids with disabilities, but it did not challenge my student, who is not disabled and is very smart. Very disappointed!

I am thrilled beyond measure that my daughter goes to Martinez. The school is a diamond. I feel more closely connected to my neighborhood, my community and my city because of this school

I'm impressed with the qualifications and skills (both hard and soft) of the teachers and staff, specifically Mrs. Dunn (Art), Mr. Cranfill (Music), Mrs. Wastler (Kindergarten), Mrs. Newsome (Gifted and Talented), Mr. Hurley (Special Ed), Mrs. Morris (First Grade), Mrs. Jarbot (Assistant Principal) and Mrs. Long (Principal).

I'm impressed with the involvement of the parents at Martinez, from the activities and effectiveness of the PTA to the presence and protection of the Watch D.O.G.S. and the number of the parent classroom volunteers.

I'm impressed by the feeling I get, and have gotten for the past two years, from every interaction with every school employee that Martinez is a great place to work and that everyone is there for the kids.

I value the leadership emphasis that the school's Leader in Me program provides. It's amazing to hear my 6-year old talking about win-win situations, being proactive and thinking with the end in mind.

The school's "specials" are five-star! Art, music, STEM and P.E. are taught by talented, passionate and caring people who connect with the kids they teach.

The extra-curricular, after-school opportunities abound. It seems every conceivable interest a child might have is offered. The summer enrichment programs extend the school's commitment to its children beyond the regular school year.

The principal is involved, present, active, vocal and committed. She is a leader by example. Her peers named her the 2015 Principal of the Year, and every Thursday morning at Mustang Round Up, I see why.

I believe my daughter is known as an individual. She isn't just a body in a seat. She is recognized for her talents and challenged to excel. She is given age-appropriate responsibilities and regularly encouraged. I'm thrilled by the academic and social growth I've seen in her each of the past two years.

Martinez has gone down hill over the past 5 year they only care about test scores. Or how much money you make. They don't care about your kid and they definitely do not won't your opinion as a parent. There is a few staff members that are awesome but not enough to make it worth the trouble. The parents are to busy talking bad about other parents and working out 6 hours a days to pay attention to what's going on with there kids education. Most people treat there pets better.

The kids experience was excellent at this school, with the exception of a couple of teachers, who are no longer there. The STEM program is out of this world. The school and teachers encourage the kids to get out of their comfort zone and build confidence.

There are some great teachers at Martinez, however the school will do the absolute minimum when they see a struggling child. They will sit there and watch your child fail for months and not even bring it to your attention. The principal is very charismatic when she wants to be, but when questioned, lacks knowledge and will make up her information when she is backed into a corner. My kids time with this school started out great and I thought they were at a great school, but this has deteriorated greatly within the last 1-2 years. They don't seem to care about my child's future and do everything they can do push his struggles under the rug and ignore it. Getting your child even the tiniest bit of help is a battle at this school because they don't want to deal with it. Their Leader in Me Program ins Great, but they should spend more time focusing on providing quality instruction to help children learn to read and write.

The leadership program is amazing for my child and has instilled great confidence and abilities within our home and outside of it. The teachers all seem really nice and readily accessible and responsive to individual interactions. The STEM class is my kids favorite and the teacher, I hear, from all of their classmates is THE best. Overall, I am very impressed by this school.

Principal voiced she didn't support homework, when the issue came to vote on for the district. I was the one who brought three topic to be voted on to our school accountability meeting.

The school might be a lighthouse school but only because of lies. I was on the school accountability committee, there is NO discipline and when the subject is brought up, it was always quickly dismissed. The tardy policy was harsh, yet children threw tantrums, punched other in the face, with no action taken. I feared for the safety of my child.

My daughter has attended for 4 years. This year in third grade she was put into a higher reading class. What a joke! All she did was play board games and her reading actually dropped because the teacher was too busy working on her own degree. There were numerous instances where kids physically asulted one an other and still allowed to attend. There is no discipline! No wonder the test grades are low. The kids are too busy doing whatever they want instead of learning. Not only switching schools, changing districts.

I am not sure how to begin other than expressing my displeasure of the seemingly lack of academics at this facility. The staff is more concerned at becoming a Franklin Covey school than focusing on what is critical: reading and writing! My child has been doing academics far beyond what her grade is currently offering, and when you ask why the high learners are not being challenged, the teacher explains it is that so the low learners can catch up. Since when was it ok to make everyone the same? Why not challenge the low, middle, and high learners to succeed?! Why is this school using convoluted verbiage called "win, win" when kids are in trouble?! How is this a win? You are being naughty, now you get to sit apart from the others...It is time to get back to the basics: reading, writing, math, and science, not coat the academic world with sugar coatings to make everyone feel like they can do no wrong.

Martinez is an excellent school. It provides before and after school clubs in music, choirs, physical education, art, karate, band, and academics. It has a lyrics to learn program, which uses music to help student remember important information in core subjects. Martinez has a top of the line stem lab providing cutting edge technology for student success in a highly technological market. Students at Martinez are taught leadership and to set goals, which are designed to make them independent and responsible learners. The school's approach is ahead of others in preparing students for a competitive life and work force.

We moved to this school at the start of the year. Our experience has been excellent so far - the teachers are phenomenal, the principal seems to have a great handle on things and there is a team feeling in this school that is just "wow". Our kids were both behind in math and writing when we started here (even so we came from a match/science/space focus school). The teachers at Martinez caught our kids up in no time :) One of the best decisions we made was to move to this school :)

Excellent special education team! They work hard and truly care for our children. Unfortunately, we had to move last year, so my kids don't attend Martinez anymore. I wish I could have taken their SPED team with us! I have yet to encounter a SPED team that even comes close to comparing to their dedication. They are unmatched!

Excellent school, my daughter is in 4th grade and son in kindergarten. Very safe and pleased with standards to which they hold children, both in terms of behavior and curriculum. Principal was very receptive when we had a problem with another girl in my daughter's class and helped us come to an acceptable resolution for all. Drop off and pick up is MUCH better starting Fall 2010 when they added additional loop in back of school.

We bought our home just minutes away from Martinez Elementary because we were told it was one of the best schools for special needs kids - specifically autism. It's been two years and we have never once regretted that decision. Martinez Elementary has great teachers who are very loving. I have been impressed with the principal as she volunteers in all the classrooms and really gets to know the students. Everyone there is very friendly and helpful and after my son being there from Kindergarten to now second grade, everyone there has become like family. The past two years the special ed program was amazing. They were patient and willing to work with us. I never dreaded an IEP meeting because I knew that everything would go well and they would find a way to work with us. We love Martinez!
