This school is not the BEST at a lot because they are broke but it is so fun and I love it everyone here finds their group of friends it doesn't have to much bullying but there is some. Over all it is soooooo fun and I love how you can learn and goof off sometimes. The teachers are mostly the best ones ever as well. You should come here

I was a student last year and I can say that my experience with this school was meh. The teachers seemed to care about the students but I did not feel like I was really challenged. The kids could get away with being distracting, and I kid you not, some of the students were suspended multiple times in the year and kept being distracting and inappropriate but they didn't seem to get punished and kept behaving badly. I loved the counselors because they seemed to really want to help but there were so many kids on the list to see the counselors, I had to wait months just to come and talk to her. Band class was a nightmare because the teacher took so long to settle the kids down that some days we only got to play our band instruments for less than 10 minutes. The students, at least a lot of the girls, were catty and kind of mean. I saw a lot of other comments about bullying, but I was never an instigator or a victim. As long as your child knows the right group of people, is a good student, and doesn't mind a lot of interruptions, this school will be good for them. If you are looking for a school in Colorado Springs for your child, I would highly recommend TCA College Pathways.

Challenger.. it’s not somewhere i would send my future kid. There are many things that are not right about this school such as, bullying, counselors favoring students, bad teaching methods, and many more. As for the bullying it really depends what grade you are in, but as a new to be 8th grader there are many students that aren’t kind and set bad examples. Many students at our school vape and start fights (sometimes even for fun). That doesn’t make our school look good. I haven’t been to the counselor too much but when i have they have been so so kind, but tend to favor some students. Lastly, i have had some teachers that were amazing at teaching (especially 6th grade) but my experience last year was not great (7th grade). I could feel that i wasn’t getting the attention and learning that was needed to grow. Those were just my experiences with Challenger, but i am sure there are many reasons why this school is so great. Please still consider what I said.

I'm well into my 7th grade year here at challenger (2024-2025), and this has been my first year here. It has been a terrible experience with the amount of bullying that happens here.
I first came to look at the reviews for this school to see if anybody else felt like how I felt about this school. I saw a few and definitely agreed with a lot. Those who are saying they had a "good time" or "a great year" might have not been bullied at all, which is great, but if you are one that is bullied you know that this school is horrible about stopping it.
On the other hand, a lot of the teachers teach very well and I enjoyed my teachers throughout this year. Some teachers are quite lenient depending on who it is. I recommending building a good relationship with teachers and staff as that gives you more opportunities.

Overall, I do not recommend this school.

If your child has any special education needs, please be very cautious in considering this school.
If your child is twice exceptional, stop considering and take them elsewhere.
Although there are a few good educators who truly care and want to help students develop the skills and strengths needed to thrive in a school environment, the vast majority are still the uninformed, power intoxicated babysitters that want children to shut up, sit down, and stop thinking so much. It’s a sad reality, and unfortunately, it will not improve under the current administration.

You know you have chi Owen a good school when you kid wants to go and their demeanor is above. Since moving here, I have unfortunately tried seeing what is so great. The consequences are nil, alot kids don’t care about others, and teachers are just surviving. The principal has her own mindset, the bare minimum. I am extremely sad to hear stories from my child’s friends that are hurtful and sad. Just checking off boxes throughout the day doesn’t not teach compassion. Lead by example!

As a grandparent of an 8th grader, I have noticed a very disturbing change. The math teacher is demeaning and degrading to my grandchild. The mid child is becoming depressed and frustrated. The school doesn’t seem to care.

Worst school district my children have ever gone to. We had high expectations and hope on the “best schools” bs district 20 is horrible and over hyped. A lot a bullying a lot of empty teaching and ALOT of racist issues.

Homework is often graded late in the quarter. Different teachers use different apps to report assignments, which was very confusing.

Teachers aren't flexible with students that learn in different ways. My son went from an A+ student in advanced math to having to switch schools because his math teacher was horrible. She told him he didn't belong in her class and refused to help him (he had an IEP for autism).

Horrible experience. The technology aspects of the school are confusing. The staff wants everyone to fit their mold and teaching style. When my son struggled (he's HFA), they sent him home instead of trying to give him a place to calm himself. By the end of his second year at Challenger, he couldn't get through a single class. He's at a new middle school this year and doing great. My younger child won't be going here.

My child is wrapping up his 3rd year here. We are definitely not happy with this school. There has been more than 1 teacher who doesn't grade work in a timely matter. Sometimes sitting on work for 3 to 4 weeks.

It's not too much homework, it's teachers assigning homework as busy work or to check a box that they are sending it out. No quality, just quantity.

I hate to leave a poor score for what could be a great school. However, if your son or daughter does not fit into the perfect peg they will not make it at CMS. If your child needs any additional help you will not get this from CMS.

The school has 3 different programs you have to keep up with to try and follow grades/homework and they never line up.

If you are reading this, you will come to the same conclusion after your child attends the Challenger MS.

I honestly have been with this school for three years and I love it, but there were a couple of teachers who were extremely childish and rude, and ruined the overall experience.

For the most part, our son's teachers were really terrific. They all did a good job of communicating with us. His math teacher was incredible and inspired our son to do fantastic work. We did have a few communication issues and feel like some of the teachers could do more to keep parents in the loop with regard to grades and progress. The iPad program seemed pretty good. Our son guarded his with his life and used it effectively.

We were pleasantly surprised with the level of homework. Our son had work to do most days, but he was still able to go out and play and hang out with friends. He wasn't a slave to hours and hours of homework.

The administration, teachers, and staff do a great job at Challenger. We loved the academic programs and felt like they were more than adequate. We would have liked to see more accountability placed on our son. The facility is old, but they keep it up pretty well. The front office personnel were always courteous and pleasant. Overall, Challenger is a really terrific school.

My school has it's ups and downs ... 6th grade was the worst year because I had a teacher who cared nothing about me. She was rude, and inconsiderate of our emotions. One time broke a strap of my backpack and had to drag it to class. She counted me tardy, and said that it was no excuse no matter what. 7th grade was amazing, if you get Ms. Laycock, then your good. The most amazing teachers retire this year, Mr. Koch, was one the most amazing and supportive people I have ever met. Mrs. Kardozo also left but she was amazing as well. I'm going into 8th grade now with a strong mindset thanks to these three amazing teachers, and also my wonderful counselor.

My son attends Challenger and is just finishing up his third year there. I am on the fence about how good of a school it is. We have had some pretty bad situations where we felt our son was being picked on by certain teachers throughout the years he's been there. Some aren't afraid to yell at you as a parent either. It has been very disheartening to deal with. And it has caused a lot of discouragement to our son. Also, it's a technology school which I found to be frustrating. Everything's online, and no one sends any missed work home ever. You have to find it online and if you don't that's your problem. On a good note, there are other teachers who are amazing! They are helpful and seem to be the favorites of all the students. In addition, the student body is made up of polite, well-behaved kids overall and that has been a real wonderful part of Challenger. No bullying problems (at least not from the students!) The after-school activities/sports are wonderful as well, although they tend to choose favorites for the teams. The counselor our son has is really sweet and very helpful through certain teacher situations. Band is awesome.

I'm ambivalent about CMS. There seems to be an unusual number (a handful) of angry/rude, bully-type teachers. Not true at other middle schools, from what I hear from friends. The administration does nothing about it, very little parental support here. On the other hand, we've had a few excellent teachers who are committed to helping kids succeed. Ask around to find those teachers, and ask which teachers to avoid. Also, the counselor my daughter has had since 6th grade is wonderful. I know many families who will not send their younger children to CMS because an older one had such a bad experience. It's sad. The administration seems to expect a lot of volunteer help from parents but like I said, they're very unsupportive of parents when it comes to needing help with teachers. TAG program is fantastic.

My 17 yr old son attended this school, and currently my 12 yr old daughter attends. My son is highly gifted and was never bored. My daughter is bright, hard working, and sincerely enjoys the course work. As a parent, the ongoing communications from the teachers are outstanding, and the school is very safe. We purchased a home in Pine Creek so the kids could attend Mountain View Elementary, Challenger Middle School, and Pine Creek High School --- absolutely one of the best decisons we've ever made.

i am currently in eighth grade now and attending this school and over all this school id an okay school. most of the teaches help you as needed and others just blow you off and make you feel like you are in kindergarten. as far as the people go it is very hard to find good true friends allot of people are just all talk and the kids that are in my grade are not he best examples of our generation so i would suggest this school but there are some teachers that you should stay away from.

I arrived at this school my eighth grade year and i think that a good amount of the students are rude and inconsiderate to the teachers. The students act entitled, and sadly, many don't seem to care about anything but their friends. Some of the teachers are good, while others seem to care less about wether students pass or fail. Some teachers are rude and almost bully-like. Many teachers seem to have a specific group of students who they really like, and if you are not in that group don't expect to be a straight "A" student. I was a TAG student, and I had teachers who seem to like to unfairly treat the overacheivers, but "accidently" forgeting to give credit for certain assignments, or lowering test scores because of ridiculous reasons. Nothin but positive things to say about the TAG program. Great extra Curricular activities & sports.

We have a student that just finished 6th grade and is about to move on the 7th, we had an issue with one teacher here and anyone that goes here I am sure will know which one that one is. She would like to choose her own in group of students, and if the other ones would ask questions she would scoff and ask the class if anyone else could answer that question, or just not answer it and say things like "moving on" etc. I brought this up to the asst. principal and nothing happened. Mind you my child received A's in every other class besides this one because she was not on the in crowd list with the teacher. Social status and pecking orders are bad enough among the students, teachers should not do the same

Overall, we've been pretty pleased with the school. There are some teachers they need to get rid of.... we had one or two that were horrible. This is coming from a parent of an 'A' Tag student. Complaining to the school administration does nothing. The kids just bad math these teachers behind their back. Pity, because the kids are justified in their comments. Other teachers know these folks are horrible and just laugh it off. No one does anything about it. If you can avoid the few horrible teachers, you should have a good experience. I don't know why they don't get rid of these folks.

Positive experiences all around at this school. Teachers are experienced, helpful and care about their students. Administration is open to parents and really wants their students to succeed. Plenty of after school activities and help for those who seek it. Part of the technology strand in the Distict Twenty school district. I noticed many of the negative comments made here (homework, discipline, etc.) also state they were ready for high school. Isn't that the point?
