Legacy Peak Elementary School

D20 mom here with 2 kiddos at Legacy Peak and my son has Cerebral palsy with significant needs/epilepsy. We are in year 2 at Legacy peak so I feel very confident writing this! We’ve lived all over in different states until settling in Colorado Springs the past few years and I can honestly say this is the ONLY school that that my son and daughter have come back from every day and have been excited to go back to every day. My daughter thrives, my son has made friends, everyone engages with him. His school has been very selective about who they hire and it’s so impressive. He loves every para, I’ve loved his therapy/support teams and IEP meetings- and the principal is really just incredible. Everyone at this school truly cares about your kids and you can feel that when you walk through the front entrance. The SSN teacher at Legacy Peak is just incredible. Great communicator, truly cares about her students. As a special needs parent, you can tell when someone has dedicated their career and life to special needs kiddos because they are truly passionate about their happiness and education- and it shows up after school when those skills and engagement follow them home and you can see how loved and cared for they are when your not around. This is exactly the case with the SSN teacher and support team at Legacy Peak Elementary. The SSN teacher here has the balance that special needs kiddos need- kind and nurturing, but also see’s the value in our children and pushes them to always be the best version of themselves. Thank you Mrs. Moeller at Legacy Peak Elementary and your amazing support team for the confidence and kindness you send home with my kiddo every day! The entire school staff treats my severely disabled son like a celebrity. they’ve set such an amazing example that has clearly been seen, and any time we are at the school- all kids from all grades are constantly joining in and engaging with my son as if they’ve known him their whole life. This school has made his quality of life just completely skyrocket. Legacy Peak Elementary in D20 has changed our whole lives and has been the biggest blessing.

When my kids first started everything was fine. Now it’s been more frustrating than anything. My kids would come home and always complain about a certain teacher and how they always felt targeted by her. Also the art teacher would threaten to make a call home over nonsense and then never did. My kids would tell me what happened and I would realize that they had no valid reason to call so they would just threaten to do so! HOW ABOUT CALLING INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SCARE THEM! They would say they don’t tolerate bullying but yet do nothing. My kid kept getting hit by another kid. He would tell the teacher to have him stop but he wouldn’t so my kid fought the kid and then got in trouble. Staff kept saying “Tell a teacher.” Why? Not like they did anything so what was my kid supposed to let this kid continue to put his hands on him?! My kid never got in trouble with us I made sure he knew he was in the right to defend himself! Then this kid threatened my kid with bodily harm. What was done then? I was informed on what he said to my kid and that it was being taken care of but that’s it! They hire terrible substitute teachers real rude and disrespectful people. My kid said the last sub they had cursed and started arguing with the kids about telling the office. Well the sub didn’t come back after lunch so either she was let go or she left. The last thing was kids being racist. Making racist remarks about others. When it was reported guess what the school did. Tried sweeping it under the rug. They didn’t take this seriously. So I said if this kid continues to run his mouth and puts his hands on my kid again just know my kid will fight back. My kid is patient but enough is enough. Do better Legacy.

This school is new and in a nice neighborhood, but that's as far as the positives go. They've gone through so many principals, leadership is a joke. Staff support is a joke. Parent involvement is a joke. What a waste of D20s resources.

I have seen my son and his schoolmates from Legacy Peak interact with kids the same age from other schools. What is made apparent quite quickly is how independent they are and how advanced their critical thinking and problem solving is. Leaps above their typical age.
I am so happy my son goes here. They don't just teach them math, reading, writing, science, and social studies, they use Project Based Learning to apply that knowledge to real world examples.
We love it here.

Beyond blessed to have my kiddo to go here. The school doesn't just see him as a data point, but a whole person. They challenge him academically and inspire him to grow. The teachers are caring and invested and the leadership is fair minded and student focused.

This school is terrible! The principal, Jonathan Johnson, is completely clueless and has no idea how to interact with children or problem solve, let alone know how run a school. After having my children attend for a couple of years, I've "choiced" them into different schools. The "project-based-learning" is a joke, because most students struggle to "teach themselves" these elementary concepts. If your child attends here, just know they will NOT be taught the basics, such as memorization of math facts, or memorization of spelling words. The first year my kids attended, half the staff quit. Unfortunately, many of the teachers who stayed really should have left, but probably couldn't be employed anywhere else since they are lacking adequate teaching skills! Every parent I've spoken with in our community has been dissatisfied with this school. They need to get a new principal, review the current staff, and switch to an IB World School curriculum.
