I'm so glad that this is the last year with this school. It's an absolute chaotic mess. All grades are released at the same time, there really is no order. Yesterday, it took 25 minutes to leave the parking lot because all of the kids weren't outside. Today, we finally got to go in a timely manner and then had to abruptly stop because a parent had to play 50 questions with the teacher in front. We're only at this school still because it's the last year and he has friends. The only teacher he liked, quit. The turn over rate for teachers is ridiculous. Very low quality for everything.

My child was continuously bullied at school. Nothing was done to deter or prevent the other kids from bulling them. I did not feel that my child was learning because their grades were not improving, I did not see homework being given hardly ever, and they did not feel prepared for their tests. This school has had a high turnover rate with teachers constantly leaving. This is very hard on a child when their teacher leaves. They struggle emotionally and academically. I do not understand why it is so hard to keep teachers at this school. What is going on here?

I would like it to be known that my family has been with this school since it first opened. We have been with them through everything so far. The 24-25 school year (last year) was an absolute mess. All of the middle school staff quit, the dean and principal left halfway through the year. There was no support for students struggling in school and trying to contact the leadership last year was infuriating. Felt like screaming into the void. The leadership that works at the school now is definitely an improvement but they are all new to the school. Know that this school is run by National Heritage academies. It is a for profit charter school. The entity that owns the school also owns Waste Connections yes the trash company. The owner contributes to political leaders and rubs shoulders with the "elites at fancy dinner's". If you have issues and try to contact district 49 they will inform you that they can't help you and will direct you to contact the company or school directly. The company is based in Michigan. Their support is all virtual as they do not have a brick and mortar HR building here in the state. The board president is a local politician and doesn't seem to genuinely care about the students experiences. There is broken playground equipment that has not been fixed and the board is dragging their knuckles on addressing the issue. They have a crumbling blacktop that is the basketball court but won't repair or replace that. There is years old landscaping fabric and pin left as a tripping hazard on the grounds outside in the play area.
Last year they had 4 middle school teacher's, a separate teacher for science and social studies. NHA is refusing to hire another teacher as they have one teacher teaching both topics this year. I do not recommend this school. The leadership is great but the company that owns the school is out for money and could care less about their community. Look somewhere else. This is the last year my family will be with this school. And shame on the board president for her reluctance to address issues. As a local politician I expect better.

Overall just a horrible school, teachers leave mid year and just no support for the kids. My daughter broke her leg in the parking lot because they don't take care of the walkways. We ended up enrolling in JICMS to find out that my child was so educationally neglected she has to start in 6th grade... She was supposed to start 8th this year!!!

I had 2 kids at this school. Older one attended for 3 years youngest one for 1 year. Last year they both had their original teachers leave mid year (one after only a month), they are also on the 3rd principal since starting, and more then 1 dean. There was next to no guidance provided, no homework, no computers assigned. I've had nearly a dozen instances of my child coming home complaining that another child assaulted them, when I reached out to administrators there was no follow up, and no action taken against the offender. This place is just a publicly funded day care center in my experience. There have been a few good teachers here that I really appreciated, but they have left the school. Very unstable administration, teachers, lack of consistency with the work, and bullying unchecked. I've pulled my kids out of this school. You should take the other reviews to heart, because it's all true in my experience.

I am writing to share my personal experience with Mountain View Academy, where my 8-year-old child attended until recently. Our time at the school presented several challenges that I believe are important for other parents to consider.

Inconsistent Curriculum and Academic Instability

During the second-grade year, my child was assigned to three different teachers. This frequent change seemed to disrupt the learning process and made it difficult to establish a consistent educational routine. Additionally, I observed that the curriculum lacked consistency, which appeared to contribute to academic struggles for my child.

Administrative Turnover

The school experienced administrative changes, including the appointment of a new principal and dean. My child had developed a positive relationship with the former principal, and the transition appeared to affect their sense of security within the school environment.

Support for Students with IEPs

Despite having an Individualized Education Program (IEP), I felt that the support provided to my child was insufficient. There were instances where necessary breaks were not provided, and my child was removed from the classroom and left unattended in the hallway. This situation raised concerns about both academic progress and safety.

Staffing and Behavioral Observations

It appeared that the school was understaffed, which, in my opinion, compromised the quality of education and supervision. On multiple occasions, I observed staff members raising their voices at children, creating an environment that did not feel nurturing.

Impact on Family and Employment

The challenges at the school had a direct impact on our family. I was frequently called away from work to address issues related to my childs education, leading to significant stress and job insecurity. After my employment in the Special Education (SPED) department ended following the Christmas break, communication with the school became more difficult, exacerbating the challenges we faced.

I am deeply upset by how the principal has handled a situation. Today 3-13-25 there was a wildfire and we were evacuated off schriever space force base. As you could imagine the traffic was insane. We called the office to let them know and Ali was very kind and said she understood and they would be there with her. Later Im bombarded with calls and txt from the principal asking if Im ever coming to get my daughter, mind you weve been in the same spot in traffic for 45 mins. She then says she has meetings to get to. Like thats whats most important right now? Then she says didnt want to have to call the police so thats why we needed to get our daughter registered in the after care program. I felt this was an insensitive and unnecessary comment. I honestly wish she would have just called the police bc they would have been more sympathetic and undertaking than she ever was. Honestly considering switching schools. This was awful. Love her 3rd grade teachers but they need a new principal.

I thought the previous experience reported on here are interesting because my kids have gone here for 2 years (3rd-6th) and have never had a problem. One my kids has physically and educational needs. All her teachers, nurse, and principal, have accommodated her needs.
Due to my childs physical needs I have to come to the school frequently, and I have watched Principal Brunton and many of the staff handle completely out of control kids. They have always been calm and stern when needed . I really feel for teachers, especially these days.
My #1 complaint/disclaimer for this school is the turnover rate of teachers. I have tried to get the scoop on why from a few teacher-friends I have and they cant seem to pinpoint one common theme.
Colorado Springs has several poor preforming school systems in general. Relative to this, Mountain View is safe, small, and meets standards.

I'm shocked this school is even open. A lot of parents are currently looking to move their kids out of this school The turn over rate of the teachers and staff is insane!!!!
Mountain view academy staff called to inform me of an accident where my son was hurt. I later found out it was a purposeful attack from the school bully. They also didnt inform me the after that attack, two of my kids got punched by this bully. When I brought this up to the new principle she was not concerned about her staff lying about what had happened to my child ( after he told two different adults)! Then proceeded to tell me she has never punished this bully kid. I have now reported this bully 4 different times and absolutely nothing is done.
This is the same bully that has been tormenting kids in multiple grades since last school year. If you want your sons and daughters to be physically punched and pushed to the ground , or smacked in the face with no repercussions to the bully, then this is the school for you!

If your kid struggles in any way, the teachers are not the type to go out of their way and teach them. They will just watch your child fail and dont care if your child doesnt complete work.
I have to spend the after school hours teaching my kids what they should have learned in class, just so they can do their homework. They dont even make sure the kids have the proper tools to complete the homework given.
I know another parent struggling to get help with his daughter getting touched below the belt by another kid, repeatedly, and the staff hasnt done anything. This is not a safe place for your child!!!!!
I regret sending my kids to this school and hope no one else will have to put their children through this.

My 5 year old child was suspended 10 times, despite the awareness of being twice exceptional. Principal Brunton singled out my child and has made it impossible to put him in a school that can accommodate his educational needs. We were called out in front of the entire school about our sons behavior before a concert at the school. Principal Brunton a d Mountain View Academy are not equipped to handle exceptional kids. Huge turn over of staff, and constant policy changes. Unprofessional in regards to notifying parents of IEP meetings. My other child was denied service she desperately needed for 2 years. Not a good school!

My son has been there for two years now, and going on to his third. He has enjoyed his last two years incredibly and has made great binds with his teachers. This year we have seen a massive improvement in his academics and his behavior. The new admin change from last year has also been a great change for the school atmosphere and environment.

What a change this year has been. I was on the fence with returning this year but with the new admin it is a much better place to work and learn. The principal has teacher's back and holds us accountable. She is blunt and is straightforward which might put some people off. I am glad I returned and look forward to building MVA up.

School is unfair in its approach to handling bullying and behavioral issues. Some teachers seemed to lack skill to handle their classroom. Former principal was prejudice and several complaints were filed. Lack of organization and leadership. Special ability students were not supported.

This school would be a good fit for a neurotypical student. They arent equipped for students with special needs. This is my sons second year and Ive been begging for support for his ADHD. They didnt have any special education support at ALL until this last year. They are very reactive when it comes to behavior and do not take any responsibility for nurturing negative behaviors in students. Its been very frustrating trying to get help or even clear communication. The special education team is fantastic but they are clearly not able to make decisions for the good of the students and the administration doesnt have any patience for more challenging kids.

This is my daughters first year at the school. She is in sixth grade. She loves her class and made friends quickly. The staff is friendly and helpful, the administration is responsive and quick. As a parent I am happy and look forward to what the remaining of our time at the school will be like. I highly recommend it.
