I had such high hopes for this school and I’m truly disappointed. I will say the teachers are pretty good (with the exception of the drivers Ed teacher, she was HORRIBLE). I was fascinated with the idea of my daughter earning free college credits. She was supposed to start her college classes in 10th grade. I had a zoom meeting with her counselor and she was supposed to be all set. Well the school screwed up and she didn’t start college courses until the 11th grade. So if you’re sending your child here with the hope of them earning college credits, don’t bother. There are other schools where your child can earn college credits, I suggest you pick one of those. Make sure you look at the reviews first. Had I saw these reviews prior to sending my daughter, she would NOT have went there.

Hello, I am a current student that is going to this school and after spending my first year here (Its currently summer but I made sure to right down many of the flaws with this school) I can say that you should only go to this school if you want the main benefits of having a more easier way to get into the college on DSU. Th environment in this school is horrible, if you have a child who doesn't like to be in big crowds, or has a history of being a bully victim then I wouldn't recommend coming here. The teachers try to make it be more friendly, but a lot of times they don't truly make it feel safe. Some examples of this was in a personal time where a fellow student almost insinuated a fight with me over something, I reported to the Dean of Students and he did nothing, the student didn't receive any type of punishment even though they supposedly "Don't tolerate fighting" even thought fights are often regular and the people who start them never get any sort of serious punishment of than suspension. I will even go on to say that there has been a shooting at the campus and we were still expected to return to school the next day as if nothing happened, maybe it's less major since it was on the campus and not the school, but I digress. I've read other reviews from parents and fellow students and I can say that a lot of it is true except on particular review that talked about the academic learning. The academic learning curve is very steep (this may be personal because I went to the afterschool help program) but it does have a good learning opportunities. Is the learning and academics good? sure, is there better options? Yes, Yes, 100 times yes. The students are horrible in this school, they supposedly only let the best of the best students here, because there "was" a check for grades and academics, me personally I think it was just to get smart students in the school. (They failed if that was the goal) Most students are never kept in check and when fights going on their barely is intervention to prevent it from happening. When people are loud the teachers barely make attempts to quiet everyone down and it makes it hard to think. Along with that the school doesn't attempt to make you feel loved or welcomed. If you want something to take away from this review, its that the school needs to work on itself, Hard work. The schools concept and way it tries to work is good, but it needs heavy work in order to actually be good, This school is horrible. do not enroll.

If I could give this school 0 stars I would, I have an 8th grader in the Middle School- they have 45 min classes 8 classes in 1 day Mon-Friday this gives teachers a small amount of time to explain assignments and focus on what they are teaching.

Most of the teachers there don’t reply to emails and seem to not care about their students overall grades.
They grade assignments when they feel like it which doesn’t help a student that’s falling behind.

My son has been an honor roll student since he was in 2nd grade and is now failing due to the trash curriculum they teach there. Several parents pulled their students mid semester due to the same reasons good students previos honor roll students that had the misfortune to end up there.

I do NOT recommend this school please think twice before you enroll your “scholar” there.

The school has a good concept, and if it were practiced better, going here would be a great opportunity. However, in practice it is not effective. The staff seems to prioritize high enrollement rates rather than student futures. I specifically remember a teacher telling me in freshman year that the school wanted more students to enroll because the more students they have, the more funding they get. The school food was practically inedible at the time. I haven't witnessed much bullying, but during a fight between two students, one ended up breakimg a teacher's knee. Also, teachers do not prioritize student emails. I waited a week for a response to an email, until I got a parent to follow up, and then I had a response within 30 minutes. It happened again with a different teacher, I ended up waiting 3 days, and I didn't get a response until an hour after a parent emailed on my behalf. They didn't even tell me what classes were on my schedule, I had to specifically ask. In my time at the school, teachers have left for better opportunities at least 3 times, one of them even left mid-semester. They charge a technology fee, and when my parents tried to pay, the school lost the check. They claimed it was never paid and refused to release my report card until it was. The principal is rather dismissive of parent and student concerns, and any email response received from her is usually quite vague and seems scripted. She says she will "bring it up with the team", but nothing actually changes, and it feels dismissive. The 9th grade building is converted from an old hotel, and the walls between classrooms are the removable kind and very thin. You can't even speak at a normal volume without someone on the other side of the wall hearing. Overall the school offers a lot of false promises but nothing more. If I could go back to freshman year, I never would've stepped foot into the building.

I wanted my child to go to ECHS and receive a quality education and hone her skills as a growing young woman. We were told that this was one of the best schools in Delaware when we moved from New Jersey. However, what we found was a lack of care from many of the teachers, and a very disgusting excuse for a principal. To be completely honest, the only working and well functioning part of this school is the Music Department, and wholeheartedly they are the main heart and soul saving the school. My daughter came home everyday and would tell me that if it wasn't for Band, she would've wanted to leave her freshman year. Besides that diamond in the rough, this is a very terrible institution of "learning" and honestly has very little time left. You get what you pay for.

Not all that it is cracked out to be. The Glitter was definitely not gold. My son tried and was never given the chance to properly succeed outside of his music classes (which was Band). Unless you want your kid to be a musician, I wouldn't suggest sending them here. A waste of time.

If I could give 0 stars, that would still be too kind! I really wanted my child to be a part of greatness and attend an HBCU. I pray I am able to reverse the effects Dr. Edney and her Early College staff has had on my child's self esteem.

Their schoology app rarely worked and that is the only means of communicating with staff. I would email only for them to either ignore my emails all together, or days later respond referring me to the schoology app. I didn't find out my child was missing assignments until it was too late for them to be submitted, and my child had a 504 plan that the school just didn't implement. This school ruined my daughter's self esteem leaving her to feel stupid and thinking college wasn't for her. I should've known something was off when my daughter was accepted into the school before I even completed the application. She was accepted over the phone.

My child had a 504 plan the school never implemented. They claimed they teach all of their students on a 504 plan level so there was no need for hers. My daughter failed every class, every semester, yet her grades were never F's until the final report cards came out. She had low C's, but when the report came she had all F's!
How does a child diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and a 504 Plan in place fail ever class and the school does nothing?! This school ruined my daughter's self esteem leaving her to feel stupid and thinking college wasn't for her. I hate myself for putting her through this.

I do not know about students, but the Principal and other staff members were the biggest bullies in my opinion. I look young, so a few times they thought I was a student, and the manner I was spoken to was ridiculous. When I advised I was a parent, they would then laugh it off. Instead of learning the kids names, the Principal would call students out by their clothing, hairstyles, and or book bag colors. One student corrected her by giving her name, but instead of acknowledging the students name, Dr. Edney rolled her eyes and still addressed the student by the color of her book bag. Some leader she is...!

The most disturbing about this school is they set expectations that they are not able to deliver. The leadership needs to be reconfigured. Educators who offer a true sincere vision for the school and those who seek effective improvements for the students should be placed in leadership roles. The communication tactics are extremely disturbing. It is sad to say, but the leadership has managed to somehow turn a project that should be such a positive experience into something that parents in the community shy away from. Some of the teachers are there seeking the elevation of the students and have a interest in the students futures, while others are there simply to collect a paycheck. Yes, we are all aware that this could be a problem in any school, however in this environment it is too small to be facing this issue. If you are trying to determine if your child should be going to this school, I strongly advise that you consider other options and do thorough research before sending your child to this school. As someone else mentioned, there are fights almost daily. I am not sure if the school does not have the funds for proper training of the staff or not, but the leadership really really really needs to be looked at or they need to close the school until they are able to successfully launch a plan that can effectively help the students in there future. Just because someone has a master's or doctorate's degree, it does not necessarily make them leader material. They struggle with something as simple as registration...registration! Or even with offering the students a safety plan for active shooters. It is so sad and disappointing. I had high hopes for this school, as I knew they would have growing pains, but at this point they aren't even trying and have become complacent. I hope that their board of directors and the board of education take a serious look into the changes that should take place to help this school succeed because if not they will not last much longer.

It's like this place is trying to create the worst possible learning enviorments. The principal, vice principal and guidance counselors don't do their jobs. The teachers are pretty much all horrible and have no control over their classes. With the exception of like two teachers. One of the teachers literally just cries all class. The students constantly have fights and bully each other, which the staff does pretty much nothing about. The classes are too long, the students aren't active enough and for god's sake, they don't even have windows!

Zero/Five Stars. This is supposed to be a positive and educational experience, but the students and the staff leave much to be desired. Most teachers at this school, are disrespectful and don't care about their students. The principal is incompetent. The staff is lacking, and the food barely complies with the federal rules they should be following, and are getting money for. Overall, this school is not even fully functional and they need to do better, before they find themselves unable to continue their program.

This school is like selling a dream to your child. There are fights everyday and they hide them. In a traditional public school the children would have discharged and recommneded to attend a alternative placement for education. Thats what happen at public school. There is are way to many fights and issues that are not being addressed. Children are getting hurt and it does not seem to be a big deal for the principle or staff at this school. Its appears that they look at this as a norm. This school is not for children with an IEP but they will tell you they are. There is very limited support for children with an IEP and they are definitely set up for failure. It's all about them getting their funding at the end of the day. This had to be the worse experience by enrolling my child here at ECHS. Parent be aware before you make the step to enroll your child at ECHS. There are a few good teachers and there are a few horrible teachers that claim they care but I find to be heartless and open to help your child when needed.

This school does not teach/enforce core values/characteristics. The children in this school are so very disrespectful and it appears to be more tolerated than dealt with. One would think that because the school is so small that core values would be enforced, but to my surprise, NOT. My child attended a stricter charter school for all of his schooling up to this point where values were enforced, now seems to be just as disrespectful as the rest of the children in this school. Unless your child can thrive in this environment with a clear focus on his/her goals without the distractions of peer pressure and trying to fit in, it does offer a phenomenal opportunity. The children are what makes this school terrible from my perspective.

Support from the administration is significantly lacking. There is stealing, children lying to staff and inappropriate sexual behavior at this school.

There are many school fights and the staff doesn't seem to have a handle on the students and what's going on to prevent a lot of the melee that occurs.

As a parent, I couldn't wait for 9th grade year to be over. The opportunity is great, but the school has a lot of maturing to do with regards to enforcing values, addressing disrespectful children, addressing theft which is common at this school, making the school safe and a bully-free zone.
CAUTION: don't send your child to this school with anything expensive as it may get stolen.
