Me and my sister walked into the lobby i think but be didn't even get through the doors before the lady at the deck decided to yell at us and say " What are you doing!?" "Why are you here?!" and we said we need to use the bathroom and told us to make our way to the portapotty nothing crazy but she was very rude. I DON'T recommend.

Since i have started High school I was admitted into MOT Charter high school assuming that it was a very good school compared to other schools in my area let alone the Middletown area. The school honeslty was honestly the most mentally draining thing I have ever experienced, there are no issues when it comes to saftey or bullying at the school as most of the students are quite disciplined compared to public school students, it is rather the Teachers and Staff more specifically the current principal and her dean that make the school a draining and "depressing" place in which most students can agree. It is just very unorganized every decision made at the school feels last minute. The way students are treated is similar to how a Middle school would be ran, there is a HEAVY lack of treating these students to a Highschool standard, they are being babied and servailed in every possible way, such as a strict new no phone policy that was added for the 2024-2025 school year.. this is just absolutely absurd as these students are ranging from the ages of 14-18 they should have a sense of how to appropriatley use cellular devices at school and in the classroom, I have never seen the Phone useage and Social media to be a problem to the school. Only in rare instances students would complain about the unreasonable rules the schools have made. Nothing about the schools makes it feel like a highschool it is more similar to a detention center. Recent changes also in the 2023-2024 school year included frosting added to classroom windows to prevent students from looking outside of classrooms at any time. This is absolutley disgraceful the school has no sense of reasonability with students. The school therapists that are at the school are also little to no help as most students who are seriously dealing with major issues find the therapist to be no help and rather more discouraging then actually helping deal with mental health. During my years at mot I found it that staff would rather make small little effort into serious problems at school and do what is easier for themselves than actually put in the effort to fix serious problems. I am running out of space but there is SO MUCH more to how much of a horribley ran school MOT Charter High school is.

My children have gone to MOT from kindergarten, and are now in 6th and 8th grade. They are challenged but also supported if they are struggling in a certain subject area. The teachers are very supportive and want to see the kids thrive. It is far better than the public schools in the area, and routinely has a wait list to get in.

MOT has been amazing! My child is now in his last year of HS. He has grown so much and the support has been amazing! Getting through 2 years of Covid hasn't been easy but they did a great job! We are waiting on college application desicion letters and I have no doubt we will get great news! From the teachers and staff, the counselor and yes, even other students, I couldn't have picked a better place for him. The clubs are great and you can be a theater kid even if you're a Computer Science major. They have plenty of sports but my son's sport is reading so we can't speak for that. The mix of so many different kids makes this school a great place where even the weird fit in somewhere. Every teacher I met was professional and really knew my child. He wasn't just a number to them. It really makes a difference! He came in as a baby in the 9th grade and is leaving as an adult in 2022. Crushed his SATs and has completed many college courses. I will be forever thankful to everyone at this school for keeping him safe and helping him reach his potential.

The amount of homework prepares you for college.

They know how to get the kids to understand what and why they are doing something, not just how to do it. Many of them really care about their students. There are a few bad apples but where is that not the case.

Only effectively deals with this issue if you are well liked by faculty. Otherwise they will look the other way.

If you are not an exceptional student (honors or AP) you will be treated like you don't belong. Very finicky leadership and lots of favoritism. Faculty has internal issues.

I have three children who have attended MOT Charter School since kindergarten. My children have flourished while at this school. They have typically had teachers that have shown great interest in their students; knowing their likes and dislikes, their learning styles, and how to motivate them. They were involved in many sports and after-school clubs/activities and have been encouraged to do their best along the way. They have learned to budget their time and to know when schoolwork and/or projects are due. This will help when it comes time for college. Yes, they do have to hand their work in on time but I appreciate that, it makes them accountable and teaches them to be prepared. As far as the homework, my children have NEVER had 3 hours of homework EVERY night. They use their advisory time to work on their homework and we typically have plenty of family time when they get home. My oldest child even has time for a part-time job after school and still gets all the work finished. I guess that it helps that my children were used to this level of academic rigor and did not have to suddenly adjust to being held accountable for getting their work done and handed in on time. They already know what they have to do to get good grades and keep them. For children who come into MOT from other schools where they were allowed to hand in work late and/or they earned good grades easily, I guess it would be hard to suddenly be held accountable and/or have to work harder to get good grades. In the long run though, it will only help them be more prepared for college and their future. I would highly recommend MOT Charter School to any parent who wants their child to be prepared for college and life. P.S. - one of my children has a learning disablilty and is still thriving at MOT. They have worked with our family year after year and have always taught my child to be an advocate for himself. He has grown tremendously not only in his knowledge but also in his ability to have confidence in himself. I will forever be grateful to MOT Charter School for my childrens' success.

This school has been one of the worst schools that I have ever been to. They offer little help for time management and many teachers that I have encountered here do not offer help to the students as well, especially when it comes to many of the burnt out teachers that work here. The school is terrible at budgeting and hire very incompetent people, including IT. I have experienced a sharp drop in my grades and I am currently leaving this school by the end of the school year. I highly recommend going to another school.

Students are required to do at least two hours of homework per night, with a lot of homework being shoved in during the weekends, meaning that students will have little time to spend with families. Also, with everything being on the computer, connection issues and computer malfunctions also make completing the homework more difficult.

Many teachers in the school do not actually teach, but instead sit at their desks and complain about how stupid kids are, wondering why many of them are not doing well in their class. Some of them also are very challenging when it comes to grading. Also, some teachers appear to be burned-out and have little patience.

The school is terrible when it comes to their budgeting. Finally, they are building a gym for the high school and not funding stupid assemblies like Spread the Word to End the Word. Also, the leadership of the school love pushing a liberal doctrine instead of teaching fairly.

One of our children is significantly above grade level, and the school has worked hard to differentiate her instruction, assignments, books etc. I do not have personal experience with IEPs, 504s etc.

Homework in the K-8 building is manageable and I appreciate that it is usually given on a Friday and due the following week, so we can pace it according to our family schedule. I personally have doubts about the effectiveness of homework for lower elementary grades (research suggests it doesn't add value).

We have two daughters at this school, grades 3 and 5, and are very pleased with the education they are receiving. We have found the school to be professional, supportive, and very open to parental participation and feedback. One of our children has special learning needs and the school has worked with her and with us to respond appropriately. Both have made good friends and connected well with most of their teachers. MOT is not perfect; no school is. There are things that we wish could be tweaked about the school, but overall we have full confidence in the educators there and are grateful to be part of the community.

I had 3 daughters who attended MOT Charter. Unfortunately we had to move to another state before they all graduated 8th grade. The experience and education they received from MOT prepared them for a strong acedemic high school. My girls were well ahead their peers in how to study and time management not to mention academically. The teachers at MOT are by far some of the best teachers my daughters have had. MOT is one of the best schools in Delaware.

If there is ever a problem, the administration work very hard to resolve it quickly and take steps to make sure it won't happen again. If there is an issue between the students they are given options to help resolve it either on their own or with the help of the staff (the kids get to choose what method to use). This approach helps the kids feel like they have achieved a solution while at the same time teaching different avenues of China nflict resolution.

K-8 gives out the Mighty Mustang award every trimester to a few outstanding students for their integrity, compassion and respect. It is the mission of the school to teach and encourage these values in their students.

Overall I love the teaching staff at the high school and k-8. As with any school one or two teachers are not as effective. I still think that my children experience excellent teachers at MOT

The K-8 homework is age appropriate and not too much. The high school gives a lot of homework, but the kids have an advisory period to work on it and if the kids use proper time management its is easily completed. Since the high school kids do all their work on line occasionally this can be a problem if the kids are away from home and don't have a wifi connection.

All 3 of my children are students at MOT charter (currently 6, 8 and 10th grades). The staff at the schools (office, administration, teachers) know not just the students but their famlies as well. There is a true feel of being one big family. The kids are learning things well before there public school friends. The high school offers the options to get college credits for several classes that are part of the normal curriculum (not just AP classes). If there is a problem between students or between a student and teacher, it is dealt with right away and fairly. I feel very grateful that all of my children were able to go to MOT Charter.

I'm sorry to see families come here to unload a tough experience instead of providing constructive feedback (whether positive or negative). According to the State of Delaware's website, MOT has a history of being fiscally responsible and almost all our the teaching staff is in the "highly qualified" group. We have 5 children that have attended and could not be more pleased with the FREE education we have received. People who attend fully funded district schools or private schools should be mindful of not comparing their experiences.
The High School curriculum is challenging, but students can complete homework in advisory periods, and rarely have more than 2 hours nightly. It is about time management and focus, a skill which is highly used in the workplace. Our 2 High School children are happy and when asked, choose to stay at MOT - they love their school.

This school is a disgrace to the name that charter schools carry. It is one of the most unprofessional environments I have ever been in. Their budgeting skills are worse than my 8 year old sons. For a school that bases their whole curriculum online, their internet is constantly down. The teachers are very uninteractive and rely on the internet to intstruct the students. Since they hire people at random with no prior experience, the "teachers" do not do their job. Their lunch is extremely pricey for what it is. I have spent over 400 dollars in lunch for my 2 children and it has only been half of the school year. They assign at least three hours of homework each night per student and I barely have any time to hang out with my kids on the weekend. The sports and clubs are very expensive for what you get. The extracurricular activities are underfunded and are run by teachers. My son and daughter have both been depressed ever since they arrived at this school and that is one of the major reasons I have pulled them out along with their drastic change in grades from middleschool.

I agree that there is a lot of homework. For a 1st grader, there is about 40 minutes a day (20 minutes of which are reading). This can be difficult if a child doesn't get home until late. We try to do as much as we can over the weekend.

I have two children at this school and both are on the younger side. For one of my kids, school comes easy, and he does great. For the other, things have been a bit more challenging. However, her teacher Mrs. Goodwin has been phenomenal. She saw a problem in the beginning and is working with me and my daughter to help her succeed. Honestly, I have only had good experiences with this school. We have been very pleased. The only complaint I have is the bus system. There really needs to be an aide on each bus.

The entire system is ran by an online service called schoology, which often crashes. The teachers can put new homework assignments whenever they want, even on weekend and if you don't do it that day they will give you a 0%. Very stressful for kids and parents who want to have vacations or have no access to the internet.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! This school is known as a joke for anybody serious in education. I'm a teacher myself and last year shadowed as an intern for a graduation requirement. The teachers are downright disrespectful to the students and teachers often do NOT TEACH! Many sit at their desk and complain about the students in front of them. Do not waste your time. This school traps its students and students don't get the education they should at a charter school.

Average of 3 hours of homework a night. As a working class single mother, my son get way to much. Whenever he asked me a question I couldn't help him because of needing to go to work. My poor boy was alone all night doing homework that seemed to be honestly cruel and unusual.

There's nothing in this school that is beneficial to a child that has any learning disabilities or class disadvantages. My son was the result of a split home and was given to me just recently, and I brought him here. As a mom I wanted my son to succeed and they told me that they would work with him. During the year, I saw my son disappear. He wasn't himself. One day he cracked and told me why. The teachers yelled at him everytime he got something wrong or wasn't paying attention. My baby has ADD and has a hard time getting what others can so easily. I asked him about it more and he said most of the students hate MOT as well but they can't leave because of a contract you have to sign to go there for an entire year before leaving. Because I sent my son to MOT, I had to work twice as hard, while working two jobs, because he wasn't moving forward, he was getting behind. If he didn't get a concept, the teachers wouldn't work with him and told him to ask a fellow student later. I pulled my son out the minute it let out, he's now going to a great school, and he has to repeat another year of high school because MOT never bothered to work with him and his learning issues. He's now got depression because of this. I wish I never sent my son there and all who are considering it, make sure you take a great look into the school before hand.

They barely teach, and have no understanding of students with different disabilities. My son was an A student at a private academy in PA before we moved and now he's barely getting by because the school has no intention of working with him because he has OCD.

A lot of the highschool students fail due to poor time management skills. Student receive automatic zeros for late assignments for homework, assessments, and research even if submitted only a few minutes after the deadline as everything is digital and submitted via Schoology. Seems like a very harsh and punitive grading system especially considering the fact that 9 graders are transitioning into high school and are working to establish time management skills. A lot of parents have pulled their students out of the school because of how the lower grades as a freshman will impact the students overall GPA which impacts the students ability to be accepted to certain colleges.

My Kids Teachers are great, they take the time by oing the extra mile to make sure each child is important and special! we sent our oldest to catholic schools and the only thing that was talked about among parents was the teachers and staff seemed to want to just get the day over with unless of course you were a parent that had a big bank account, wish we could have found MOT earlier for him. Love this school!
