Academy of Dover is a tremendous school! The head of school is an amazing person with a big heart, who truly cares about all the staff and students that are in her building. The staff is welcoming to others, and are always willing to help others with what needs to get done.

The communication with most staff to parents is daily and the use of Dojo makes it easy to have communication between parents and teachers. Most of the teachers I have met love being there and have great things to say. Staff really seems to care about their students and do their best. When I have experienced a problem it was easy to have it resolved in a timely manner. The curriculum is high level and can be difficult at times but it pushes the students to do better.

The Academy of Dover is an awesome school! The teachers and staff are very caring, supportive, give more than 100% every day, love teaching and, most of all, they love the children! I would highly recommend this school to anyone seeking an excellent education for their children.

Kindergarten was an amazing year! I thoroughly enjoyed the curriculum and found the material to be both engaging and challenging. The school officials did an good job of keeping us informed and maintaining appropriate communication channels. The school app was particularly helpful, allowing us to stay updated on important information and events. Overall, it was a fantastic year, and I'm grateful for the positive experiences we had in Kindergarten.

if i can i give them a 0. my son got bullied everyday and they did nothing to help him. this was in the being of the school year (2022-2023) we moved so he can go with his cousins and other friend at CR. he as an IEP and a 504 plan and cr use it. This school needs to be shut down.

The changes in this school within the last three years are amazing. Individualized student educational experiences, after school sports, outdoor learning areas, tutoring, newly created differences in middle school/elementary experiences, new equipment, as well as experiences growing chickens, gardens, and printing in print shop. Most of all, the happiness in students and staff is felt upon entering the building. Staff really care.

We are in our second year at AOD and we absolutely love it! Since the change of principles about 3 years ago it has become and amazing place for our son. They pay such close attention to each childs needs and dont just focus on them learning the curriculum but also learning life skills. I have been impressed since day one and wouldnt want to go anywhere else.

The teachers and school staff are dedicated and attentive to each student. They treat parent as a friend or family member. My son is educated in a safe environment.

Most of these reviews are older prior to getting new adaminstration. New Principal is great and my Son is delited to go to school each day. He has a male Teacher who is a great role modl6 for the boys. He keeps them engaged and loving learning. The students all say I can do anything! I am strong and I am enough! They are so pumped up. When they get a little tired from sitting in their seats for so long. He gives them a short dance break with music to help them reenergize. His Teacher before is amazing as well.

Most teachers are new and dont have experience. There is a new principal with no experience. There are no field trips, no extra curricular activities, no holiday celebrations for the children. The school is always do fundraising but I dont know where they are spending the money. When attending the PTO meeting they did not know how much was raised at any of the events. There has been a huge turn over in students as well as staff. The teachers seem overwhelmed and fed up.If I could give them a negative 1 for a rating a would. I do believe this school by far is the worst in Dover.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I've waited a long time to write this review.. because I wanted to find a reason to validate that maybe it was NOT the school's fault my son had to be admitted into Rockford. But after a start at a new school, with teachers willing to work with him, with counselors able to assist him, a 504 plan put in place and an IEP specialist ready to help whenever she can I have realized that IT IS BECAUSE OF ACADEMY OF DOVER that my son spiraled out of control last year and had to be admitted into a hospital. They have NO STRUCTURE! They do not enforce a NO Bully policy, they DO NOT have an IEP, they do not have the proper staff to assist children with emotional support. I was getting called every single day to come pick up my son from that school because he was misbehaving or having a melt down and NO ONE could help him, I was taking him to counseling outside of school and I was having meetings with the Academy staff at least once a month about my sons progress in counseling and what to do to help him succeed in their school but there was absolutely no follow through!! The other students at that school would bully my son and say things to get him to explode and the teachers would do nothing but call me to come pick him up. At the end of May the school told me there were having Crisis come and I had to admit my son into Rockford Behavior Center.
My son is now a student at another school where he is in an emotional support classroom with teachers who are patient and show him they care, they teach the students how to be kind to one another, the IEP is there when needed and they are already establishing a 504 plan for him. He has had ZERO issues and is starting to love going to school again..
All this within the first week of school and Academy of Dover couldn't get it together for an ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR!! I then find out the summer after that the principal for that school was basically a "fill-in" because the principal the year prior was fired for stealing money from the budget. Several teachers quit over this past summer along with the principal that was filling in.. Putting my son in that school is one of the biggest regrets of my life and I hope everyone reads this review and decides not to allow their student to go there. Please do not make the same mistake I did!

The new principal has worked hard to overcome the past and move forward to get the school in a good academic and financial standing. Test scores increased tremendously and the school has received numerous recognitions and awards for their accomplishments.

Yes, my Son was bullied for being different. The child was talked to about it right away. His parents were called and he had to write a letter of aplogy.

Yes, it has changed in the last 18 months. It is very effective now. They even have before and after care (afordable) and she started a PTO.

They teach respect. They post signs for all the kids. "If someone does not have a friend be one", there are several ehnic groups represented in the art work around the school. They give great repeat awards for going above and byond.

I love the Teachers so far they have been above average in affectiveness. My Son with multiple eye condition and Autium like disabilities is above his grade average along with the other kids.

They really work with parents and kids with homework assignments. The kids get homework pages from classroom teaching from that day and Teachers offer after school personal contacts to ask questions.

My Son is 6 soon to be 7. He is in his second year at Academy of Dover. He came in knowing his colors, how to write his name in capital letters, numbers and everything. He finished Kindergarten on Honnor roll, reading level two books by himslef, and speaking some Spanish. He could not wait to return to school this year. They have a newer Principal (in the last 18 months ) who has transformed the school. They are smaller class sizes and students get a one on one help if needed. My Son has multiple disablitles that affect his eyes, his attention, and some times understanding of directions or times the school work. He is not on an educational required help or anything but he really does well just from the normal amount of attention he is given the same as the other students. Test scores really increased from 2014 to 2015 year for the school. Looking forward to 2016 scores.

Very disappointed in the commitment level of my child's teacher. During the midterm review she showed me the only two tests of the semester in which my child did not do well. She sends home a paper today of a low grade needing my signature. There is a culture of negativity that does not foster a love of learning in young children. First year here. Last year here.

Academy of Dover is a great school! The staff work hard to ensure the students succeed. The security in the school is top notch. I know my children are safe when in the school. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classoom, as I have done all school year. The school has zero tolerance for bulllying! Great school and would highly recommend!!!

Academy of Dover is under poor leadership. The Principal and VP are unprofessional and incompetent. They make the decent teachers they have bad by encouraging them to behave inappropriately. Parent involvement was discouraged by the Principal, CO, and teacher. No return of calls and no parent-teacher conference when requested. This school is really bad. Don't send your kid here.

The school is a great place for students to learn and for families to be involved with their childrens education. The administration has made significant changes in the last few years that have yielded wonderful results, i.e. getting out of improvement under No Child Left Behind, and meeting or exceeding State Standards for the last three years. It is definitly an educational option for your child worth looking into.

There are many reasons why this school has the lowest rating. It starts with the lack of leadership of the Board of Directors and Principal. The staff is constantly looking for other work which provides an unstable environment for learning. There are some quality people on the staff but they're in the minority. You'd be doing your child a disservice if you send them there.
