South Dover Elementary School

While the staff do an amazing job there are some kids who come from disfunction homes and are rude to teachers and kids. My daughter was a target at one point but as soon as I told the teachers what was happening they jumped all over it and addressed the issue. Overall my daughter felt safe to talk to teachers or the counselor if there was an issue.

All the staff were well directed by a very kind and smart principal. He was very active with his school. And offered many Friday night family learning activities that were fun.

Between round table sessions in class and starboard learning they did great. My daughter was able to help kids who needed peer to peer help with math problems and it worked out wonderfully

When it happened to my kid the teachers removed the student from class and sent him to counseling. When he came back they moved him away from the kids he targeting and watched him closely

My daughter was in the Spanish immersion program and she had a computer assignment every night also Speed reading assignment and and journaling every day. She did great and it was very helpful to keep her busy and on top of her education

Many teachers were very involved with the kids. If something was wrong I was able to communicate with her teacher through DOJO a class communication program and they jumped all over any issues or concerns. The teachers and staff were very nice.

8 out of 10. The school for immersion program really stepped it up for extra learning tools for kids and made sure they were being respectful. Though a few bad eggs were in my kids class the teachers did their best to address and redirect and educate issue. It showed thenteachers cared.

The building itself looks decent. Then you walk in and see how chaotic the environment is. Staff is very disorganized, children have been left unattended in the gym after dismissal numerous times, misinformation given on a regular basis. The foreign language programs appear to be nothing short of a train wreck. There are a lot of behavioral problems at this school and if another child is bullying your child nothing will be done about it. North Dover is a much better choice if you have to be in the Capital School District.

Mr. Fesel, the school counselor, personally connects with the children and all students are taught values such as honesty, integrity, and fairness. If the students haven't gotten it at home, the school will do its best to instill these values in children.

I have had children enrolled at South Dover for four years. I've observed a high morale among teachers and staff, and sense that the students are the priority. Initially I was concerned, as my children had previously attended a private school and we were new to the community and this was our first public school experience. However, I couldn't have asked for more! So proud to be a South Dover parent, and pleased with the opportunities my children have had to grow and succeed. The staff works very hard to ensure that learning can take place and that distractions are kept to a minimum, by maintaining a high priority on positive behaviors. Kudos to the staff and kudos to a solid administration!
