Aspira’s teachers are not equipped to actually teach children the skills they need to learn to succeed academically. Kindergarten and 1st grade were fine, but as the years progressed, my child’s grades started slipping lower and lower. She informed me that the teachers didn’t adequately teach her each of the subjects she was learning and felt poorly equipped to handle the quizzes. They do have a good concept of immersion learning another language which has helped my kid learn Spanish alongside English, but the rest of our experiences are quite disappointing, academically.

As for the culture at the school, “mean girl syndrome” is extremely prevalent. The girls at the school practice every toxic feminine behavior you could imagine - mocking other girls for wearing unfashionable clothes, having to wear glasses, not having thick enough hair, not having long hair, having the slightest dental imperfections, and every other superficial mockery they can come up with. The boys aren’t much better, again, exhibiting every toxic behavior imaginable - shoving kids off of playground equipment because they want to play on it, playing rough games nearby other children who frequently get knocked over or hurt, yelling at other children and insulting them for the slightest perceived impropriety, and generally being a disruptive influence in the classroom encouraging other kids to make bad choices.

Overall, the school is very poorly managed, the curriculum is severely lacking, the teacher’s ability to instruct is lacking, and the culture that’s fostered in the children who attend there is toxic and frankly destructive to other youth.

I would give this school zero stars if I could, but sadly this is not an option. They present themselves as a “progressive” and “inclusive” school yet I have experienced prejudice not only from students but also staff members. LGBT, BIPOC, and other minorities (excluding their large Latino community) face discrimination daily. This discrimination has been normalized and no one bats an eye when a student is experiencing blatant racism/homophobia/sexism. Not a single day goes by without a fight on a bus or even on school property. I have also seen students with various illegal substances for such young ages, yet nobody does anything to investigate further. I can’t walk around the halls without smelling weed or getting called a slur; I am even scared of going to the bathroom, as there have been numerous incidents of students getting jumped. This school pretends to be perfect yet there are so many obvious flaws they overlook.

I would not recommend this school to anyone not of Hispanic heritage. My son was bullied at this school, I reported it , my son reported it and it was caught on camera several times. Nothing was done until I contacted the DOE. Just recently I went to pick up my kid and waited over 45 minutes because they sent him to aftercare after replying back to the email I sent stating he was car rider. When my child was telling them I was waiting they stated that’s not what the office said and he was being disrespectful. This will definitely be my son’s last year there . This recent altercation with the school has me livid because instead of them even apologizing the young woman at the front desk gets smart and then raises her voice when her peer steps in and starts speaking Spanish to her in a attempt to make it seem like I’m this hostile black parent. Definitely will not recommend anyone of Color attend this school you will not succeed here unless your Hispanic. If it allowed me to rate it a negative 5 I definitely would.

As a grandparent I was so excited when my granddaughters were accepted. As it turns out this school is not at all what they claim to be. They have their picks and If you are not Hispanic don’t even bother. During the pandemic they had 2 days of all Spanish lessons every week . That is ridiculous because my grandson is not Hispanic and it was his first year. They absolutely favored some students over the others. During black history month they barely noticed it at all but when something Hispanic comes up the whole school is celebrating. They are unfair in many ways. The teachers are not always willing to work to help work with the students.
The disappointments are endless. All of my grandkids will be going to different schools next year. I can truly say this school is a big disappointment.

All my kids have had the opportunity to become Aspirantes and our experience has been wonderful. We love being a part of this amazing family and feel very satisfied with the choice we made to give our kids quality and caring bilingual education.

The School has re-focused their homework policy allowing students to spend more time in afterschool activities, sports or with their families. Teachers create open communication channels and provide parents with resources to support their kid's academic development.

This school is horrible. I haven't been here for a long time but it's been absolutely ridiculous. BTW im graduating this year to high school. I'm not Hispanic so you can obviously tell how racist this school is. I had so many different situations where I was in trouble for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Not only are the teachers racist but they also favorite many students over others. They do not accept people with learning differences. In fact, most of them aren't patient at all. They don't help you unless you're one of the very smart kids. Teachers at aspira only care about their self. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD THERE.

Overall, I am happy with the school. My child has been attending the school since kindergarten and will be going into middle school next year.

Students went from having homework given out on Mon and due Fri in lower elementary to having it due a week later in 4th grade and now no homework in 5th grade! How will the students be ready for middle school with no homework? Parents don't know how their students are doing until it's too late and see the report cards.

Some teachers with experience are wonderful! However, most are new graduates and don't know how to handle student behaviors or developmental delays.

The school is big into inclusion and diversity. There is always anti-bullying campaigns . They have many school events to teach integrity and respect to build strong character in the students such as: Outdoor Learning Environment, Safety Patrol, Spirit Week and Mentoring Program. They participate in annual Community Projects such as Stockings for Soldiers, Alex's Lemonade Stand, Clothing and Canned Food Drives. They even had a special event for a student that passed away last Fall.

There are not enough special ed teachers to accommodate learning disabilities. There are no advanced classes for the students that are ahead of their grade level. There should be free tutoring for students and parents to learn the other language they are not familiar with so they can help their child effectively learn.

The teachers and administration take bullying very seriously. They are active with discipline for anyone violating the 0 tolerance rule.

This is my oldest child's 3rd year at this school. Though the teachers have been great, administration/leadership is horrible. Communication has become horrible, and decisions made are not in the best interest of the children OR their families. Will NOT be returning next year.

I have a child who has attended this school for the past four years and we love it. The staff has really built a community of inclusion and dedication. I highly recommend this school.

My Daughter has been there since they opened and she enjoys it very much. They have many extra curricular activities like band, athletics and clubs. The teachers are better than most of Christina School District (which isn't hard). There have been growing pains, and the class sizes are a bit too large per teacher. They are big on common core for the state of DE. We are not sure about that curriculum, but I am sure the competent teachers there will do their best to make sure the students learn and comprehend. The PTO is awesome and many parents are involved.

As a parent of an ASPIRANTE since the inception, I can attest to the phenomenal growth of this school. I am very impressed with the curriculum and activities offered which include but are not limited to; QUEST, band/choir, athletics, Chinese lessons, boy scouts, Girls on the Run and a plethora of clubs that are available to the students by their choosing, these vary by the grade level and can include the Lego and chess club, the game show club and even yoga! This helps cultivate well rounded pupils! School's trademark is that it is a bilingual & college prep curriculum. I wish English speaking parents were given more opportunities build our own literacy in Spanish as well - so we can also be more involved in working with the students in their immersion process. Multiple subjects, including math come home in Spanish. My biggest qualm is that some teachers are young and new grads but they are very easy to work with. Just like many of the previous reviewers, this school is very family oriented. You will soon learn many folks by name and they will know you also. The school really encourages parental involvement, & the school's administration team is awesome.

I would definately recommend this school for anyone looking for a friendly atmosphere where the kids enjoy learning. My son is currently in 1st grade and I am excited for my other son to begin kindergarten next year!

Aspira is an amazing, inspiring place to learn!! I have 2 munchkins, 1st and 4th grades, and they are quickly becoming bilingual in addition to being challenged in all academic areas. So pleased with the faculty and staff - can't say enough good things!!!!!

My son is starting his fourth year(K-3) at LAAA and my daughter is starting her first. Our family is very lucky to have found this GREAT SCHOOL! There is a sense of community and I feel that my children are being challenged by this great group of educators!

The faculty, leaders and parents are thoroughly committed to the success of this school. The curriculum is rigorous and challenging and it has fostered an environment where teamwork and collaboration are critical to it's continued success. My children love Aspira!

Absolutely love the faculty, staff and school "family". Everyone truely cares and is passionate about this school and it's quality education. They are definitely the leaders of the pack when it comes to a model for education. The immersion program is absolutely amazing to see in progress and the results are astounding. We feel so lucky to be a apart of LAAA and can't wait to see what the future holds for this fabulous school and community.

So very thankful that we took a chance on a brand new school as our first child was about to begin kindergarten. ASPIRA is absolutely amazing-providing our children with a challenging curriculum, a community of acceptance and comfort for the students, amazing, dedicated educators and administrators, and technology to keep the students one step ahead. Now beginning out fourth year as an ASPIRA family, our second son has started kindergarten and on his way to follow in his brother's footsteps. My sons know each face in the entire school and are greeted, by name, by both students and staff. We've invited our friends to check out our school, and many have been lucky enough to hear their name on lottery day! I'd encourage anyone seeking out a challenging, bilingual charter school to visit ASPIRA.

I am so thankful that we decided to go with ASPIRA from the very first day. We have been with the school since the day the doors opened. This school has grown leaps and bounds!!! I have watched my shy children blossom into amazing students. When they struggle, the help is there. When the school community needs something, we all step up to help out. I cannot say enough amazing things about how much my children have learned, not only in English, math, science, social studies, but also en Espanol!!!

Love this school I learn Spanish everyday and have math English science and social studies. Soo fun! You feel like you have a family there because everyone knows each other!!we also have uniforms the middle schoolers get to pick ou different colors of the shirts and pants/shorts/skirt
