As others have stated, most teachers do not seem to care about the students themselves but rather outcomes. Again, if your child is at the top then no worries, forget about it if they need any sort of 504, or god forbid IEP, the school will actively negate you and become oppositional. They are letting my child down daily and nobodyteachers nor admin and especially superintendent office seems to care.

We moved from a different area of the country with significant expectations. Winchester High School has been a great experience for our son. Academically, your child will be surrounded by many kids who also have high expectations (as do their families). Classes have been excellent and AP preparedness strong. The coaches at this school for several sports are outstanding - it's often a combination of employees and people in the community who are paid coaches and volunteers. As an example, for CC, there is a coach emeritus who has been involved with the program for 50 years. The community supports the kids well, as it is the only high school in our town. Kids are prepared and head off to prestigious colleges and universities.

The other reviews on this page are old and somewhat outdated. Winchester High School has been in a newly renovated building since 2018. School spirit is high, sports are great (aside from the current CoVid pause). The main reason to consider this school is its possible to excel in it. Yes, there are great teachers, average teachers and a few poor ones. It's the community standards and population that make it a top school - the top 15% of students are Ivy League bound, yet the atmosphere is much less competitive than in neighboring Lexington. In other words, a smart student can be a top student in Winchester and get into a great college without going insane trying.

My child is in freshman year and teachers have been as word of mouth described, half excellent, half atrocious. I have been told sophomore year will be the same, but there are better teachers in the upper grades. School is challenging, competitive and big. Easy to get lost if your child is not at the very top or bottom. A lot of homework. Facilities are terrible. Principal poor. Parents very involved. Many hire tutors for their kids. Sports extremely important. That said, the school is still above avg.

I have been unhappy with my daughter's education. I agree with the student who felt that our success is based on having a fortunate population which can afford to pay for tutors and test prep. Leadership is poor; one administrator has been applying elsewhere for years without success; his heart is not in his job. Music, art and technology very limited. Almost every music program is audition-based, even the ones after school. No intramural sports at all. Not a place to explore new areas or take academic risks, if you are not a star the teachers ignore you. My freshman met her guidance counselor only once in the entire school year. In transitioning to electronic grading software they neglected to give access to the guidance counselors, so my daughter's counselors did not see her grades or progress reports. The emperor has no clothes.
