My sisters went to this school amd it waa the best thing for them to get to attend. The school is very compasionate about teaching and they teach strong ethics without being over powering.

They are discreet and address each issue as it arises event if they happen on buses.

I think they do pretty good at this. My oldest had an IEP and I've noticed a lot of other students with physical disabilities and they all seem to be treated well event on my "surprise" visits to the school.

They are effective but I think that depends on your definition. They change leadership often.

Posted: October 31, 2016

They really encourage this in the school and do monthly "character counts" awards or special things for the students.

Again it depends on the teacher. Overall yes. I think a lot of these teachers genuinely care.

Some teachers have a lot of homework with little "support" (instructions/no examples) sent home so that you can help the child. Others give no homework. Some give a reasonable amount but have great "support" sent with it.

This is a good school. It is 6-8th and they do a good job of keeping the grades separated and assisting the 6th graders and 8th graders with transitions. They are very helpful with the special needs as well. The children generally seem really nice to each other. The teachers are good but a little overboard with restrictions for locker time but I guess it is public school and too many things can happen. As with any school you have to be active and keep an eye on your child's work and behavior and speak with the teacher. The teachers are pretty good, teach the curriculum and seem to tend to all levels of the learning (special needs to merit). The administration changes a good bit. I don't like that but then again it was good to remove the one that wasn't good. I'm not so sure I like the current one either.

As a parent of Smithsburg kids I can say that this school use to have a great principal..not so any more. Teachers more in control than principal. Mr. Kuhanek cared and fostered environment for all to learn..not so with Dr.T. Smithsburg is heavily defined by it's cliques - ask anybody when you say you are from Smithsburg. It is who you know not what you know that gets you on select sports teams or chosen for any SGA position or leadership role. Can't wait to get out of this town!

I have gone to Smithsburg Middle. I have just recently moved to Cumberland. Let me tell you, Smithsburg Middle is way better than any other school. It has bands and orchestras that work very hard. The teachers there are amazing. They give the best education by far. If you want your child to have a great eduacation with great kids, go there!

Smithsburg middle is a wonderful school filled with great education and fun time of learning. I think that smithsburg deserves to win the 5,000 dollars because although our school has good education, we still lack the need of certain tools and materials to complete our educational needs. Smithsburg middle has on of the highest MSA scores and we can even make them better with more advance technology. Unlike most schools Smithsburg middle doesn't have a lot of sponsors and this affects us greatly because we don't have as much money. With these 5,000 we can make a change in not just the school but in the life of teenagers that go to this school. That's why Smithsburg Middle deserves to have the 5,000. Thank you for your time! I hope this inspires you!
