Do not send your child to this school. If I could give it zero stars, I would. My child's experience has been a nightmare from start to finish, and this institution is a breeding ground for insecurity and mental distress. The teachers here have a blatant bully mentality, dismissing students' concerns and anxieties as if they are a nuisance. They create an unsafe environment where children are not just ignored but actively undermined causing students academic to be hindered. My child was not able to foster and blossom academically in this environment. The administration, including the principal, is complicit. If you care about your child's safety academics and emotional health, keep them as far away from this school as possible.

The school looks great, is kept clean, but a lot of students are incredibly disruptive and some of the teachers give empty threats about giving the bad students in school suspension. Education wise its not so bad. Deadlines are difficult to keep up with but thats not the schools fault, thats on me. Im going into 8th this year and have been going since 6th and so far I havent had any problems other than other students being big distractions by being disruptive.

During the past year, the teachers, coaches and administrators at Highland Middle amazed me. Covid-19 put up serious obstacles and they surmounted all of them. I was moved to tears at the way the coaches and principal spoke of their love and pride in the students at the athletic banquet. My child exceeded in his EOGs and was able to develop and maintain good relationships with his peers and faculty even while doing at home learning. I could not be happier with this school. Thank you to all staff, teachers, coaches, and admins for the incredible job you did this year. Im so grateful for each of you.

Had issue with bullying and was never fixed after going to the GC, SRO, and admin. Reported this 4 times on the bully site. After I reported to the school board is when something happened.

This was a horrible school for my kid to go to
Posted: July 16, 2018
not much homework is given and when they do its does not get real grades
Posted: July 16, 2018
they only worry about pushing for the EOG that is it.
Posted: July 16, 2018
kids get bullied and they blame the child that is getting picked on.
Posted: July 16, 2018
Teachers stand in halls and gossip and nothing is ever done.
Posted: July 16, 2018
The staff has the smarter children help the other children instead of helping them there self.
Posted: July 16, 2018
No my child talks about this on a weekly basis.
Posted: July 16, 2018
The school looks nice but the staff over looks the real issues the children deal with.

My daughter and son attend this school and I couldn't be happier. The principal Mr. Graham is amazing. He has such a great attitude and really cares about the students' success. He inspires and motivates. They have great teachers who really work hard to motivate the students as well. The homework system is set up for the success of all the students and if they need help, it is available for them. This school stands out above all the others we have attended.

My daughter is in gifted and talented services at this schools. Overall I have to say that I am satisfied with the school. She still would benefit from more acceleration as she completed all the requirements from one of her subjects earlier in the year and had nothing else to do because lack of materials I guess. But besides that the school is new, the teachers are personable and professional and the rest of the staff have been very helpful to our needs. This school like one poster said is setting the bar for what NC schools should be.

Homework is the only thing I wish they would give more off. But all schools are that way nowadays.

Everyday is a new day to work on the principals of honesty, integrity and fairness. My child sees the teachers and faculty modeling these tenets. He than uses them in his own world, on the field, bus, and at home.

Highland is a nice new shiny school with high efficiency and extremely motivated teachers and faculty. The school is upping the bar for public North Carolina schools. I'm very proud to have my child going to this school.
