Daughter was sexually assaulted, told by another student he was going to shoot her, called a slave in social studies in front of a teacher, warned that ICE was coming for her- none of the students responsible were ever punished. Administration unwilling to identify opportunities for acceleration or learning beyond the basics. Funding and staffing for vocational programs prioritized over academics.

Ive been going to this school for the past 3 years and its been outstanding! No bullying issues whatsoever!

Bullying-

This school claims to have an amazing control over bullying, this is a flat out lie. They turn a blind eye to what truly bothers a student. For example, when two students are PLAYFULLY fighting, they would get their agendas signed. When two students are PLAYFULLY teasing each other, they would get their agendas signed. However when something like this happens (and I quote) "Hey *my friends name* breathe if you like *my name*!" in this context, to like somebody is to have a crush on them. There are even more instances of this happening. It is not kind. It is not joking. It is bullying. My teacher will overhear conversations like this and they will turn a blind eye.

The comments -

There are almost constant remarks about race, identity, or religion. I will overhear kids in the hallways make comments to a girl because she is a lesbian. They will call her an f-slur, or an inappropriate name for a woman. Nothing is done about it. There are 6th graders saying the n-word, or a group of 8th graders saying that the ECS students are r-slurs. I go to the chargers unified club when I can, and those ECS students are the sweetest children you will ever meet, and have no idea what people are saying about them. I am sickened by the lack of action taken on these kids, who clearly have nothing better to do than try and hurt people.

The classroom -

Overall the curriculum is not terrible, it just depends on your teacher. I am lucky to have good, attentive teachers who truly care about their students. This is not the same for my friends. There are some teachers who act like they truly couldn't care less about the education of these kids, and just do it for the money. They will hand out basic packets, then spend the rest of the classroom answering questions about the packet with a "Just reread the question VERY carefully." and give no further response. I will not say these teachers names, as it is not my place to do so.

I would recommend this school if you care about your child's education, but not about their mental wellbeing.

From a former student, I'm hoping I could give a good perspective for parents, rising students, and current students. In regards to education (for me and my 3 years there), it was 50/50. Some teachers there were genuine great people who made learning fun, welcoming, and cared about the middle school education for the next generation. Others, not so much. the other 50% were just there to get a paycheck and didn't do the most outstanding job, usually just handing out county issued packets and leaving the kids be. When it comes to administration, as per middle school standards, it was pretty bad. The admin were rough on the students, and cared little about the things actually going on in the school, for example, students of minority groups were mocked and harassed by students, but most of the admin would just let it slide. When it comes to elective choices, I find it pretty good, lots of room to express yourself in the chosen elective. Family engagement is okay, they use Remind to tell parents about assignments and events , but other than that its pretty hands off. Aside the student culture, the sports games are fun to watch, and the school has a great feeling to it with its spacious "collab spaces", just wishing they'd use it more often, and the ability to sit outside in the court yard is great. There is quite the separation between the grades, so if your siblings or children are in different grades, they wont see each other much. I did find the content that was taught really good, and informative and defiantly top tier in the county, and state. The best option for middle schools in the holly springs-apex area. The school is pretty safe feeling and modern. Not amazing, but a top tier school in the state for sure.

Its so bad, i wanna give it a zero, but thats not possible, so i give it a one. Heres my reasoning, i was a student in the 8th grade, year 2021-2022, I noticed that the staff dismissed my friends with problems relating to sexual misconduct from our peers, due to them being good students, they claimed they were making a bigger deal than it needed to be. I also noticed there was a lack of punishment for bullies, often times the bullies were targeting small groups, (lgbtq, people of color, and people of diffrent cultures than themselves) and when we brought it to administrations attention, we were brushed off once again. This school hardly took any action to help those in need of support. The majority of the 8th grade teachers and counselors offered their support, however it felt nearly impossible to get proper help with the way the administration handled situations. Me and my friends were also called a great deal of slurs relating to our gender, race, ethnicity, and more, whether they partained to us or not.

I understand the school staff are not meant to be our therapists, but when students are having difficult home lives it can be difficult to continue to work to their best ability. I am a student at this school. In 2021/2022, my brother was diagnosed with cancer. My brother has always been my idol and has been very present in my life and I care a lot about him, so when I was told he might die it was severely hard for me to continue to follow my studies. After we had received specifically bad news from the doctor the night before, I ended up collapsing in the bathroom. When a staff member found me sobbing, they signed my agenda and sent me straight to class while I frantically wiped away my tears. I tried to explain that I needed a moment and asked if I could go to the councilors office but instead they threatened to give me iss if I continued to cause a disruption. I understand I was partially in the wrong for being late to class, but I knew I would be distracting if I was crying in class. The staff lack much empathy and when working with kids, especially middle schoolers you must have at least some form of sympathy. The staff and some teachers have also been known to insult and belittle students with insults and even slurs. If you plan on sending your students to this school, make sure they stay very private about their identity. This is also not including the students who have been assaulted by their peers in a sexual way and did not receive justice and I stead had their experience swept under the rug. I hope this schools staff can grow and become better people so more students are not harmed by their negligence.

This is our first year at Apex Friendship Middle, with our oldest child, and I hope that the rest of the kids get assigned to this school as well. I have been very impressed with not only the teaching staff but the administration as well. Admittedly, some of the normal things haven't been normal this year (my child is attending via virtual academy) but the school has done a great job of trying to carry on as normally as possible.
