South Lakes Elementary is truly a wonderful school with caring teachers and a very supportive environment. The staff are kind, patient, and genuinely focused on each childs growth both academically and emotionally. The teachers communicate well with parents and make sure students feel encouraged and confident.

As a recent transplant from South Florida, it was very important which school we wanted our girls to enroll in. Being that the South Florida school system is horrible we specifically moved to North Carolina so our children could live in a safer and more productive environment. Moving to a new place virtually knowing nobody wasnt easy, but we really got lucky with SLE.
The first person we met at SLE was Mrs Short, the principal of SLE at the time. She invited us in with such a warm smile and positive attitude. The first thing I noticed about her was her enthusiastic personality. I can tell she really loved her job and the children whom she was in charge of educating. This was a breath of fresh air coming from a place where most of the educators were sulky, miserable, and lackluster. She showed us where are eldest daughters classroom was and introduced us to Mrs Raftice. Once again, I was highly impressed with her demeanor and approach with her style of teaching. At that point I became very optimistic of my childrens future at SLE.
About a couple months into my childrens time there I met the office staff. Christy and Tamara were the first two I met. They are so awesome! They work very hard and are extremely helpful. Theyre such wonderful people and now I consider to be my friends. The way they care about the kids is priceless beyond measure. Its because of the teachers and staff that decided to keep my children in SLE even though Bowling Road Elementary is literally behind my neighborhood.
Id recommend SLE to any newcomers to Fuquay or anyone looking for a great school for their children. Im looking forward to another year with the SLE family.

This school has the worst administrators I have ever witnessed. They are disrespectful bullies who threaten others to achieve what they want. They treat their staff horribly, they belittle, threaten, micromanage, and speak rudely to and about them in front of parents and other staff members. The principal also refuses special services for children with learning disabilities, despite claiming to have a special ed background. She claims students will outgrow some of their disabilities. The AP tries to isolate students in his office, offering to let them play with toys and relax in his office, doesnt that set off alarms for every concerned parent and teacher? The guidance counselors are also horrible, they serve no purpose and do not act in the best interest of any student at that school. Unsure what it is they do all day. The superintendent has been contacted multiple times with multiple examples of the bad behavior, threats, and bullying tactics these administrators employ and has refused to intervene. The bad teachers outweigh the good ones at this school, pitting students against students, showing themselves unprepared to teach lessons, insisting students do computer lessons so they dont have to teach, etc this school needs a hard reset, as does most of Wake County.
