I have no issue with any teachers we have encountered throughout the 2 years my daughter spent at ORA. However, there is an extreme lack of support from administrators. My daughter was physically harmed twice by the same student and there was no action whatsoever taken to separate the child and my daughter so that the instances would not continue to occur. Each time this child injured my daughter it was completely unprovoked.
We made the decision to completely remove my daughter from ORA after my daughter was STRANGLED by the same student. She is only 7 years old.
I escalated this incident to the Craven County Board of Education after I got no where with the principal. This school completely failed my daughter and failed to give her a safe learning environment. She wants and deserves to be at school, however, it is clearly not safe. She no longer gets to go to school for her safety, while the student who is attacking other children gets to stay. The lack of concern for safety is disturbing. -0/10.

Students are sweet and most teachers are hard working. However there’s very limited support for struggling students... they’re swept under the rug. There’s no concrete system in place to support kids and teachers. They’re left to fail or quit. I absolutely would not recommend this school.

Administration does not lead by setting a positive example.

Posted: August 28, 2020

Administration bullies teachers and offer absolutely no support.

Administration does not want to bother with any negative behaviors- they expect teachers to handle it on their own.

The leadership and teachers are doing a great job hosting reading, match and science nights for parents and students. It allows the parents to see how much work is being done to prepare students to be successful. I've had 2 parent conferences at the request of the teacher to go over where my child is and what I can do to help her improve. It has been my experience that most parent conferences are done when there is a problem. That is not the case.

If i could rate this school a 0, then it would be a ZERO. I refuse to believe that elementary schools in this same county are rated 10/10. It's upsetting as a parent to know that my children are "Far Behind" other schools and they will start behind and fall even further behind. What the Hell is going on in this county and at this elementary school?

First teacher retired half way through school year, and new teacher had not graduated college yet. We were receiving homework nightly in all 3 subjects, when new teacher started, we stopped getting everything. I had to start calling and requesting parent/teacher conferences, which showed to be completely ineffective. I kept asking for homework and daily reports on my child, but again - nothing was received. We talked to the new principal, and again - nothing.

I am not sure what is going on at this school, but last year their rating was a 1 out of 10, and this year it is a 2 out of 10. I guess that's progress, but the students are not to blame for the teachers ineffective teaching habits. They all seem nice and friendly when you come into the school, but I was there a couple of time and I could hear teachers yelling/screaming at students from down a hall, very inappropriate. Are they teaching ciriculum or yelling at these kids. I admit some kids are harder to teach than others, but if these teachers were effective then Oaks Road elementary would have a better score than 2/10.

I am Neutral on this because my children have not come home bullied. But my children also train the gentle art of Jiu Jitsu. Bullies get dealt with.

Grandchild started kindergarten this year and the teachers have been fantastic. School has kept us informed and I really like the principal. My grandson enjoys school
