Lincoln Heights Elementary

We have been part of Lincoln Heights for 5–6 years. When we first started, the experience was great. The staff was wonderful, especially during online schooling, school events, and day-to-day interactions. Unfortunately, the last two years have been very disappointing.

The staff often seem angry, disengaged, and uninterested in interacting with students. Family involvement and communication have become nearly impossible. When students struggle, there is little to no meaningful support provided. While everything may look good on paper and the required documentation is completed, the reality does not reflect that same level of care or effectiveness. I have been told multiple times they threat students on test, they will fail the grade if they don’t meet eog expectations. As a volunteer, I have seen many questionable situations.

Front staff is unwelcoming and almost bothered to be there. The are not discreet with personal information and openly talk poorly about families/students.

This has been extremely disappointing, and as a result, we have applied to other schools.

Lincoln Heights Elementary is one of the best magnet schools! My son just graduated from 5th grade, and my daughter will be in first grade next school year. I love all the teachers there.

My daughter has moved on to middle school this year but our time at Lincoln Heights was wonderful. The staff was caring and kind. The environment was warm and friendly and the academics were fun and rewarding. I’ve never written a review for a school before but I’d send my daughter here again if they did middle school too.

We moved here from out of state and were nervous about starting a new school, but Lincoln Heights has been incredible! My child’s teachers are so warm and welcoming, creative and loving. The staff is fantastic as well. There is always something fun going on for the students. I like the environmental aspect of the school, they do a lot of outdoor learning which is so nice. I am thrilled with our whole experience at LH.

The principal, Mrs. Grant, is wonderful. She is very kind and loving and knows all the children.

This school has an AIG program and also pulls students who needs extra help.

We absolutely love Lincoln Heights. The magnet and environmental programs are great. The PTA is very involved and typically hosts several events throughout the year. Every teacher we have had has been wonderful and really pays attention to the childrens strengths and weaknesses. Most the classes are taught outdoors and that is a huge plus for us.

There is no homework for this school. They do send home extra practice but nothing is mandatory.

I was hesitant to enroll my child here because of the school rating, but am so glad we did!! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The principal sends out weekly emails/newsletters to inform you what's going on that week. They are great at communicating and really try to get families involved. They have monthly fun nights for students and their families. My child's teacher has an app for communicating and will send pictures and videos to me of what my child is doing throughout the year. As a busy parent, it's nice to be able to see what my child is doing/learning in school, as I'm not able to volunteer. My child has nothing but good things to say about his teacher/staff and his peers. My child genuinely LOVES going to Lincoln Heights. They have AWESOME learning expeditions and my child was actually upset when I picked him up early from school one day- because he was doing something "fun." Great experience here. Hoping the school rating will eventually reflect the actual experience.

They are great with communication! They will send parents videos and pictures of what your child is doing throughout the year. My child loves his teacher and loves going to school.

I have worked her for 15 years and have loved ever mo Utes of it. Great caring staff. Awesome atmosphere and a positive learning experience for my own child.

We had a great experience last year at Lincoln Heights. The teachers, staff, and administration exceeded our expectations. They were approachable, effective communicators, and truly cared for the students. The magnet program is excellent, both educational and fun for the kids! We're looking forward to another great year.

This school is great, and the teachers are great. This site has our school totally wrong. People shouldn't have to waste their time defending their school from your marketing campaign of a website.

I am very pleased with our first year at LHES. My child loves school, gets along with his peers, and has had positive interactions with staff. There have been fun fieldtrips and assemblies (character education, environment, music, etc), and academically he is thriving. The PTA is very supportive and involved. I'm hoping that overall test scores improve so that the school's reputation can match the real-life experience.

What happened to LHES? We once were able to turn a blind eye to the lack of discipline, pitiful test scores, and revolving door of admin. Now, we no longer can. Thankfully, I could keep my kids on track by supplementing lessons and activities at home. Sadly, the majority of the teachers have looked for greener pastures, and I can't blame them. My kids miss many of the classroom and fine arts teachers. We actually are thinking of moving to be closer to one of the former teachers, because we know her programs and teaching style are phenomenal. If you are looking for a school grasping at straws to solve low test scores, then LHES is for you. This is their focus. LHES lost too many amazing teachers, and the teachers who stayed appear to be stressed with the admin's desperation for higher test scores.

I used to love this school. While overall performance scores were poor, I was willing to overlook that as my children were happy and were making progress. Staff were warm, nurturing and really seemed to care about the kids. In 2017 new administration was brought in and it seems the only thing that matters now is data. Many teachers left when new administration was hired. Teachers who stayed seem stressed and don't seem as happy anymore and everything is data, data, data. My children no longer look forward to going to school. LHES administration has become so focused on bringing up its scores at any cost they have forgotten they are teaching children and it has lost the nurturing quality that once set it apart from other schools. As data is all that seems to matter, I can no longer recommend anyone attend this school as there are many better-performing schools in the area.

I absolutely love this school. My daughters are thriving here; one that occasionally struggles with anxiety and the other who is academically strong. These teachers love their students and are dedicated to the school community and each family. A central theme in many great novels revolves around that of the triumph of the underdog. LHES is similar in that our school is resourceful; full of grit and determination. Lincoln Heights Elementary will be rising to #newheights and I cannot wait to be a part of it.

Where do I start? Parents looking at ratings should take heart: the best schools are run by people who love children, and that's what we have at LH. The principal is kind, fair, upbeat and involved. The teachers and staff dress like professionals, always smile, are helpful and friendly. All of them! Teachers stay in contact with parents through notes, emails, and class websites. Generous school with a family atmosphere. We are so glad our daughters are at LH. My daughter is finally getting the help she needed, and lacked at a higher-rated school in the past. Give LH a chance to show you what quality education is and how good it can be for your family. A jewel in Wake County for sure!!

I love this school. Many parents that I talk to that live in the city but did not know about Lincoln Heights is truly missing out. My son has been going here since kindergarten and know he is currently in 2nd grade. It is a steam school and it challenges the students to always do there best. I love the staff and how much care they put into the students and their craft for teaching.

Lincoln Heights Elementary School is a great school. My son was in 5th grade here in 2014. The teachers and staff are awesome and go above and beyond. This area is a lower income area and this school itself is just older than others and gets a bad rap. It's a wonderful school!

Our family is on our sixth year at Lincoln Heights and I love it! The teachers and staff are great. It feels like a big family. Most of the staff know every child by name and are kind and loving to them. The school has been a STEM school for a couple of years now an the kids love it. They have a technology class in addition to music, art, and PE, and on Fridays they get two electives based on choices they make at the beginning of the semester. My kids LOVE it! I also love that the grade level teachers really work together as a team. Often the children will go to a different teacher's room for a certain subject. It's nice because the kids get to know all of the teachers and their classmates, not just the ones they are in "regular" class with. I could go on and on about this school. I just love sending my children there!

I have been in and out of the school on multiple occasions and have witnessed a very caring staff. They act like a family and appear to really love the children. The office staff is always overwhelmed with students, parents, and ringing phones, but they are courteous. The new STEM options and music class has my children really looking forward to school.

Where do I start let's see my 6 year old daughter came home in tears with her shoes tied together last year. They were like that since lunch she told us when she got home.. Idk where u come from but to me thats bullying neglect and above all dangerous... my kid has head lice three times from this school. I was forced to cut his hair that he had been growing out for years.. Way to break a kids heart that prides him self on his crazy hair... The lice must have been pretty bad, we use lice repellent shampoo daily!!! After the first time... Transportation is lousy they never get there on time, half the time the bus don't come. When we call they expect the parent to transport the child?? That's absurd.. Today August 26th 2014 they left 7 kids on the second day of school.. They also get pretty mouthy on the phone, not what u would expect from some teachers at a school who is speaking too concerned parents...
