I am amazed with this High School. All positives and praises for it. it is Highly competitive, demanding and very focused school that brings best of the students. It is not good for those who are scared of competitions and challenges - they may find it tough to sustain themselves.
Most of kids very high scorers in SAT and ACT. Proven track records of this gives very confidence like studying at Harvard or MIT.

Newest…student didn’t feel well, said “you aren’t sick”. Student was hypoglycemic.

(Sarcastic)…So glad you all are so attentive and supportive to the students. I’m so confident sending my student there.
Had the student passed out. You would’ve probably left them there.

As a parent, I feel compelled to share my experience with this high school in the hope that others can make a more informed decision. While the school may boast a decent ranking, I urge you not to be fooled by the numbers. If you want your child to have a normal, healthy high school experience, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

We have two students that currently attend this school. They are engaged, like attending the school and have made many friends at the school. The academics at the school are good and in most cases there is help available through "Smart Lunches" if you are struggling. Our senior did above state average on the SAT and ACT and was accepted to college in a competitive field.

If your child has any type of disability RUN!!! They will not accommodate students with 504’s. The previous administration was wonderful, the current administration doesn’t care. My daughter who has arthritis and severe anxiety was told to toughen up. I was asked why not just “get her a wheelchair”, a counselor told me “maybe it’s better she be hospitalized that way she can get in to see the specialist sooner”. She was granted home bound for a time, which they advised since she was a honors student she would not have access to her teachers except for “quick questions”. Needless to say I pulled my daughter out mid year and registered her in a virtual learning school.

Today, my eldest daughter (a senior) witnessed a parent be denied entry to the school by the principal because of her service dog, which she had documentation for. I have had enough of this school!

The teachers don’t care, they are not engaging and are just there to babysit most times. I encourage you to find another alternative for your student. We move around quite a bit and this is, hands down, the worst school and school district we have ever been a part of.

I don't know what is worse about this school. The academics, or the staff. The counselors who are supposed to be helping the students get ready for college, refuse to help the students who ask questions about college readiness and help them explore other programs outside of high school. The teachers assign more homework than in any other school that I have had experience with, forcing my student to quite their extracurriculars to maintain a high GPA. The teachers grade harshly and don't base their grading on how much the students learn, but rather on how well they listen to exact directions. Students are no longer focused on learning the material but rather doing exactly what the teachers want. This is harmful for their futures in college and this teaching system at this school is not setting up the kids for a successful future. The staff clearly does not truly care about students, as they often publicly humiliate students who may have broken a rule, such as dress code, rather than speaking with them in private or giving them a warning. The school is overcrowded to the point that half the students have classes in mods that are about 200 feet from the actual school, where they must walk there and back even in freezing temperatures or heavy rain. I was severely disappointed when I sent my child to this school. I expected teachers that help my children learn and staff that help my children be successful, but rather got immature staff and poor academics. I cannot begin to fully express my discontent with this school, but I hope this partly does it justice.

I have two students who attend here. One is sporty and another is artsy. They both have been able to find their niche & are getting a world class education. One is able to take honors courses, the other gets help with learning obstacles. The teachers are engaged & helpful.

Overall, green hope isn’t an awful school. Unless you are gifted at math then it can be a struggle for lots of children. The culture at this school is very competitive and pushes you to take many APs and Honors classes. It’s also harder to get into college when coming from Green Hope. Most of the kids are pretty nice, but they can be a bit stuck up and self-absorbed.

Although I’ve had my fair share of great teachers at this school, some (specifically math teachers) are genuinely awful. The math department at green Hope is horrible. Teachers are taught to not answer questions to “further their students higher thinking skills” I went from a straight A student to struggling to get a B in high school math.

The only thing this school breeds is competition and self-esteem issues. This is not the fault of the faculty, but it is the fault of the family’s that belong to the school. This school is insanely competitive and even if you have a 4.0 weighted gpa you are still likely to be in the 40th percentile for class rank.

The new principal is horrible. She does not care for the school or it’s students at all. She puts all her energy into dress coding girls and does nothing more than try her best to make school a hostile environment.

The curriculum at green Hope is taught so quickly that if you are a student that needs extra help there is hardly anything they can do for you. Often times a whole unit will take no longer than two weeks in math or science classes. I would suggest getting a tutor. That’s what many of the kids do here.

Personally, I have never experienced bullying at green Hope. Most kids are too self absorbed to notice anyone else around them so bully is pretty rare.

I moved into this district specifically for the reputation of the school. Just as I moved in the old principal moved out and the new one has made one disappointing decision after another. The elimination of a very successful dance program that has been at the school more than a decade and the rude and dismissive tone to any parent that dares to speak up about the shortcoming of the Calculus program. Moral of the story is never move for a school. The biggest factor in your child’s success is you and your child.

As a parent, I have found that the new principal has zero interest, concern or love for this school or the students. She is systematically dismantling one of the best schools in the state. If you have choices -- make another one.

As a teacher, GHHS always stands out to me because of the drive and motivation of the students. You can easily see the “bee hive” of energy by stopping by the media center during lunch time (filled to the brim with students working together and independently). To future GHHS students- yes, it’s a large school, but new students join daily . Whatever your interest is (theater set design, guitar, cyber security, etc,), there is a club/group/class that you can join and find your niche. Will some classes challenge you? Yes, but you will be well prepared for not only college but you’ll also have the necessary skills needed for today’s workplace. GHHS has fantastic teachers, counselors, coaches, administration, etc. who care deeply; they desire that all students not only succeed but thrive as individuals. It’s a fantastic school!

If your child is an introvert, they might as well be invisible to most of the teachers (aside from only 1-2, in our experience... which has been 2 kids for 4 years each).

Lots of extracurricular activities, but very competitive. If your child is smart but different in any way, they will emerge worse than when they started. Too large maybe... so many kids ignored. I’ve had 2 children attend, but I won’t send my 3rd here.

This school is so competitive that it has created a completely dishonest student body. The top ranked students are all cheaters. Cheating is rampant throughout the school and it puts kids who are actually working for their grades at a disadvantage, which makes them want to cheat.

There are a many good things about Green Hope, but the bad outweighs the good. Their athletic program is top notch, but past that the school is not so great. There are too many students to where individuals are not getting the attention needed to help students succeed. The worst thing about Green Hope is the competition. Healthy competition is good to help students to succeed, but it is toxic here. Students will be harassed to share grades and then put down if they didn't make a 95 or above by fellow students. This competition has caused cheating to run through the school since that's the only way student's feel they can succeed. This school may have been good 10 years ago, but now it is not somewhere I would want to attend again.

Nothing special. Grades are reflective of the student population (Asian), not the teaching. Outside of the high achieving kids, it is a typical HS filled with entitled kids, drinking and drugs. Families should not buy into the hype of GHHS being a top tier institution.

My son just graduated this weekend and he loved this school!! We are the minority in this area and he's never had a bad moment and never been bullied or picked on. He absolutely LOOVED Principal Summers!! He said out of his 13 years of school, she was the only principal that he felt cared about the students. She is very involved and talked to them not at them. I hope she stays that way. Green Hope is THE BEST SCHOOL in North Carolina!

My youngest child just graduated. Older children attended private high schools. Incoming parents, please note that although GH is a highly rated school, it is still a PUBLIC high school with 2200 students. Due to budgetary cuts, GH staff has been cut significantly since my child arrived in 9th grade. Take this into account when you interact with teachers and staff. My child had 2 lousy teachers, 2 outstanding teachers, and a bunch of pretty good ones. Counselors especially carry a huge workload. Your child may not get much attention until senior year when college applications are prepared. But they will get the help they need if you work with the staff politely and reasonably. Remember, if you want the same personal attention parents and students receive at Cary Academy, Cardinal Gibbons, and Ravenscroft, you'll have to pay for it.

For those moving to the triangle area, Green Hope is arguably the best public high school in the state for both academics and athletics. They just won the statewide Wells Fargo Cup (4A) for athletic excellence - and you can see here their academic ratings (top in this area). I will have two graduates soon and both have had great experiences at Green Hope.

A good school is one with good teachers, good parents and good students. GHHS has all these three in place. So now it all depends on you (the student) how to make use of the available resources and in turn bring good name to GHHS. We are also planning to move to GHHS from CA.

I have been impressed with Green Hope High School since arriving in Cary, North Carolina almost 4 years ago. As I now have both a rising Senior and an incoming Freshman, I can attest to the school's overall professionalism, academic acheivements and excellent services. The faculty at Green Hope is "top notch" and clearly dedicated to the students.

I am a current student at GHHS, and I do agree with many of the other reviews that it is a decent school. Yet, there are still many unenthusiastic and honestly, depressing teachers that teach here. I would say out of my 16 teachers that I have had, so far six have been very good, while at least five have not only been incompetent in their subject, but refused to teach and where blatantly disrespectful and used biased grading with the students because they hated their jobs. Green hope is known for excellent test scores, but what most don't know is that there is a percentage of students that does so well that it inflates the average and poor students scores. The school does not look to improve their lower scoring students scores very often. If a student wants to succed in the top half of the class, a tutor outside of school is positively mandatory.The pressure and competition here is insane, while the school lacks any positive reinforcement or incentives to students, or even any inspiration. The student body knows that we are more well off than some i'n economically challenged areas, but that's no excuse for the poor education I feel I am still receiving.
