Our family’s experience at St. Michael Catholic School during kindergarten and first grade was a horrendous experience, leaving my very bright and sweet child hating school half way thru 1st grade. In our experience, many teachers are primarily rude and impatient. The kindergarten teacher enforced a "no hug" policy, was incredibly tough on the young children, lacked basic communication skills and patience, struggled with effective teaching methods, and relied on an astounding amount of tv and screen time. While the first-grade teacher was slightly better at instruction, she similarly lacked patience, overworked the children, and was cruel at times.
Any complaints regarding these issues fall entirely on deaf ears, as the administration consistently protects staff before the children. Parents are becoming so fed up with this environment that the administration added a note in the back-to-school newsletter stating that unofficial social media groups are not the place for criticisms or complaints, explicitly warning that "persistent negativity on these platforms may result in the dismissal of your family from St. Michael Catholic School"—a statement that speaks volumes about the systemic issues here. Furthermore, bullying is completely out of control with no repercussions, resulting in the bullied children leaving due to no protection from the staff; I personally know three mom friends who have pulled their children out for this exact reason. If your child does not fit into their specific "box," they will be asked to leave, which happened to two of my friends' children. The school offers no extra learning help or accommodations for the children.
Wealth seems to be celebrated above all else. Because of this exclusionary, wealth-driven culture and toxic environment, I strongly advise prospective parents to look elsewhere.

St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School is truly an amazing place! From the moment we joined, we felt so welcomed by everyone; the teachers, staff, and administration all go above and beyond to create a warm, caring, and faith-filled environment.

Our child is just in kindergarten, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience so far. The teachers are incredibly patient, nurturing, and dedicated to helping each student grow academically, socially, and spiritually. It’s clear that they love what they do and genuinely care about every child in their classroom.

The administrative staff is equally wonderful, always friendly, approachable, and responsive. They make communication easy and ensure that families feel informed and supported every step of the way.

We are so grateful to be part of the St. Michael’s community. It’s more than just a school. It’s a family that values kindness, faith, and excellence in education. We highly recommend St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School to any family looking for a safe, welcoming, and inspiring place for their child to learn and grow!

Our experience thus far (we're 2 months in!), has been stellar. Such a lovely campus w/teachers & administrators who care...& if an issue comes up, they'll meet to brainstorm ways to overcome the challenge. There is heavy parent-involvement & the PTO is strong. There always seems to be a fun event on the horizon for the students & their families. We're very pleased with everything top to bottom - safety included, as that is always one of our top priorities.

I attended St. Michael’s from kindergarten through 8th grade, where I was blessed with amazing teachers who supported me and made me excited to come to school each day. St. Michael’s not only helped me grow in my faith, but also taught me to approach every task with kindness and empathy. The exceptional education I received prepared me for high school and provided me with real-life skills that I will carry with me forever. I’m so grateful for receiving such an amazing eduction.

Your child needs to "fit the mold" to be part of this school. None of the staff members ( principal, assistant principal and teachers) care and work with your child and you to address the issue. They can be quiet rude and unprofessional. There is a big discrepancy between what they preach ( Catholic values) and how they behave. We had a completely different experience in the previous Catholic school where we lived before moving here.
There are plenty of good schools in this area. Especially public.

I am very impressed by the administration’s commitment to an authentically Catholic identity that infuses all aspects of the school. The leadership is passionate and transparent, and my daughter’s teachers have been wonderful. I would strongly recommend StMS to any family looking for a supportive Christian learning environment for their child.

Disappointing experience from the administration, teachers and religious education programs. Seems to have long term leadership issues or lack thereof. Very political, lots of nepotism and favoritism on full display. Unsuccessful at communicating and working through concerns. Sought a loving, welcoming and encouraging environment for our children, but unfortunately experience one that serves the few over the many.

I have had a child at St. Michael's for years, but we will be pulling her to a different school. It may be great for a "perfect" child, but if your child has any differences at all (special ed, adhd, anxiety, learning disability) neither the teachers nor the administration could possibly care less. I appreciate that public schools have an obligation to work with you and privates do not, but you would expect some flexibility and willingness to work with students. Not at St. Michael's. Fit the mold or fail. And it seems to be even more rigid since Fr. Michael took over the congregation.

StMS is truly a fantastic school! Catholicism is a true focal point in all these students are taught each and everyday. We also love the character building component they weave into all the children do. The communication with parents is stellar and any concerns are directly dealt with. My children are happy and flourishing and during the pandemic we couldn't ask for more. They also have a fantastic PTO who are always working to offer fun events for the kids and parents - it truly is a family environment. By far the best Catholic school in the Diocese!

St MIchael School is an extraordinary place! We have three graduates and one rising 8th grader. As we reflect upon our time at STM, I realize more and more that it was the right fit for our family. We chose the school because we were parishioners of St Michael parish. We wanted a Catholic education for our children to encourage and support their growing faith as well as their academic needs. Our children have flourished at the school and feel like they are a part of a family! Their faith is at the center of who they are and this is strongly encouraged and supported at St Michael School. Our children are free to learn about Jesus, pray and encouraged to give to those in need.

We have had some phenomenal teachers and their education has been wonderful. We all know that there is no perfect place but STM comes very close! There are great community events like movie night, trunk or treat, living stations and all school rosary. Our children have grown in their love for Jesus, classmates and teachers! What more could we want?! If you chose STM, you will not regret it! God Bless!!

The school does a great job of forming the “whole” person.

I agree with previous one star posts. There is an air of exclusivity here and teachers can be extremely intolerant at times. If you fit their status quo you will more than likely be fine, but any type of racial or socioeconomic diversity is looked upon like some sort of scarlet letter. Catholic values are preached in the classroom, but judgements and actions contradict. This is an issue from the top down...especially in the principal's office. It is such a shame that they are operating under the beautiful namesake of St. Michael the Archangel and harbor such petty, malevolent, and discriminatory values in their hearts.

We love StMS and Mrs. Navarro! We were at public school for a few years and were pushed to the side. My kids have excelled in all subject areas and love school. The attention they receive in this nurturing environment and the sense of community has helped them thrive. This school is exceptional and there's a waitlist for a reason!

Our son summed it up best when he said, "I can see why you had me go to school at St. Michael's. It helped raise me the right way." We have had children at St. Michael's School for the past 9 years, and would recommend this school to anyone who wants to not only have their children grow academically, but also grow in their faith and establish positive character traits in their children. We love the community feel, which is something that is hard to find in today's society. My husband and I both work in the public school system, so we see the contrast and are appreciative of the continuity between the values being taught at home and those being taught in school. Through highly effective teachers, a supportive environment, and a culture that supports our own values, our children have gotten a solid foundation at St. Michael's. We couldn't be happier!

My son started Kindergarten here after our move from England. He was quite shy when he started but after a year at St Michael he is evolving into an articulate, well behaved, polite and confident young boy. I credit all their staff including teachers, principal, and front desk for providing a safe, happy, nurturing, environment which inspires the children to learn.

Posted: July 7, 2013

I agree with the previous 1 star review. The "teachers" have created a very judgmental, discriminatory and emotionally abusive environment that breeds favoratism and hatred towards others. The popularity contest begins in PK.

Posted: May 12, 2013

Finding more of an exclusive rather than inclusive environment with students at this school, and it seems to be perpetuated by some of the teachers/assistants. Look carefully before your commit. Expected better from a catholic school, the teachings of God are talked about beautifully but not lived/displayed by all. Very sad.

We have compared our child's school work with friends who have children in the same grade in public school and they are about at the same level. That isn't bad since the public schools here in Cary are so good. The teachers and staff are very caring and kind to the children and that is a plus. If you're expecting very high academic standards and strict discipline this is probably not the school for you. But if you're Catholic and having your child raised in that faith is important to you then this is probably your school.
