This school sucks, the new principal is weird and draining every student at this school, we miss Mr.Booker. This principal has made weird rules and covers it up by saying it’s for our best, he is the worst

My eldest is of course an angsty teen so I write this from my experience and what I have been able to pry out of him. I’ve never had any issues with any of the faculty/teachers. My kid says he hasn’t had any bullying issues and says his education is “fine”, but he has been excited to talk about his days sometimes. There’s nothing he outright hates about the school, so that’s something.

Great high school with a great sports program compared to most high schools in the Ft. Bragg / Ft. Liberty area.

I would say that this school is worth the pain. I don't want to deal with the drama and seceding fallout that comes with the school however I have to praise the school for despite all that still having a selection of AP classes and teacher that make it worth it. Teachers are a luck of the draw kind of thing there a good ones and bad ones, however even the bad ones most times will offer some kind of begrudging support. Even though it is definitely rough around the edges I would say its a good school.

I'm currently attending OHS and I would say my 9th grade year was fine. I was a honor student and since I was very anti-social. but I will say there was a bat that was found in our cafeteria and even roaches anyways I didn't know many people unless I attended elementary or middle school with them. As for now I'm currently a 10th grader and my overall experience so far is horrible. Besides OHS being overcrowded ( it has been since my 9th grade year) there's so many violent students! The school doesn't do much.. suspended them repetitively or send them to STAR for one semester and they come back; never expelling them. Does this stop the students? Never. It's as if they're protecting them. The only good thing is sports, but we don't even have a track just concrete.

My son is a Sophomore this year. His first year was good. He has always been a straight A student and nothing changed. He took advance classes his freshman year and was challenged. The only issue I had was that 2 out of 4 of his teachers were replaced half way through the year, affecting the class somewhat, but that’s out my control. When I asked him about the rumors I heard about fights and stuff, he shrugged and said that happens everywhere which is true. I thank God it didn’t affect him. I think success is based a lot on the child and what they put into their education. It’s nit all on the teachers. I do feel some of his teachers gave busy work and too much of it sometimes. All my done did was homework and football practice. It kept him busy but may be too much for others. Overall, you get out what you put in and I put in a lot of prayers as well. They, we, all need it. ;)

I just moved here from
Germany, and I must say that this is by far the best school I have ever attended! America has a truly amazing school system, and I wish I'd been given the opportunity to use it before 12th grade...

Harnett county is one of the WORST schools districts in NC ... I have 2 Children and Somehow every year after all of the progress reports say failing with 30's and 40's they manage to get 70's and 80's at the end of the year passing them along.... Also Best friends son is currently passing a class in 4th period with a 100% despite the fact he has early release for work after 3rd and has no 4th period????? Bullying runs rampant and unchecked, School board has no care in the world about anything with the schools, a bunch of old retiree age guys collecting checks for doing nothing is all they are.... STAY AWAY from this school district

My son attended last year. No problems at all. Just hard to reach the front desk when needed. And be careful if you don't have insurance, and your kid plays sports, he got injured..... his bills were never taken care of by school insurance as promised.

I have 2 kids attending this school and 2 more on their way. Through social media, they see their friends from other states enjoying pep rallies, spirit week, talent shows, dances, theater productions, and many clubs/activities/events....along with getting a wonderful education from teachers that seem to really care. When my dtr asked for a recommendation letter from a teacher when she was nominated for governor's school, the teacher had her turn around and look at a table full of papers and was told that she simply didn't have time. How discouraging! The kids need to feel connected to the school. They want to have pride in their school. They want to be involved and have the opportunity to grow with their peers inside and outside of the classroom. It shouldn't only happen during football season...there should be opportunities throughout the year to make hs special. I'm not saying that students need to be entertained, but I feel like something needs to be done to promote school pride! Give the kids a voice...student council is a start! I know that I can't be the only parent that feels this way. They only get to do high school once!

this school was great for my son. I turned in his IEP during the summer and as soon as school started I get a call from his diagnostician to set up a meeting with me. Like every school there are kids who fight, has troublemakers, etc but my son knew to stay away from all that. I can honestly say that this was a wonderful school and very helpful. Great place to send your high school kids.

It is a great school some teacher are great some really are not I had teachers that have been bad and did not care but that typical at any school my main conplaint is over crowding 5 min between classes I have to shove thought the halls to get to class I love ohs but with people stopping in the hall. It hard to get though the hall to got to classes But it hard for some students to get there on time with there class on the other side of the school and lunch to many people in the cafeteria slow lines the main problems are the crowed no order in halls not many staff in commons super vising. Students and need more staff controlling crowds

We are a military family and we picked Overhills over other high schools after doing some research before we moved here. I have had two children graduate from Overhills and have two that are currently attending. They all love Overhills. We have had no complaints. My children fit right in. They have liked their teachers. I will say that the principal that they have now is a much better improvement over who was here three years ago.

This school needs a lot of improvement in my opinion. The school being overcrowded is one thing that really annoys me. This year, being a sophomore I can definitely say that last year was much better, in terms of the amount of people. Less people in the hall meant getting to class faster, and less hassle to try and squeeze through people in the hall. The school also needs work on informing students on what's going on. Most times the only way I know of something happening is through other students. The fighting has to stop. It's a little more under control this year, but fights still happen. I also feel like other sports, besides football, should be noticed and appreciated. It seems like no one is ever alerted of any upcoming events with any other sports besides football. I do have to say though that the principal is trying his hardest. I really do believe he is trying to make this school better, but with some of these students it can make his job pretty hard. There are some very excellent teachers at this school, but then others... they just don't get it. They don't take control of their students... or really understand how to help the information stick.

Overhills Highschool is kinda hard to describe, because depending on what classes you take and what teachers you have, it makes entirely different experiences. I personally take all Honors classes, and I'm also taking French, and an elective called AVID. My experience in 3 out of 4 of my classes is generally average. My French and AVID teachers are awesome, and despite the huge amount of work, English is okay too. My overall issue with this school is: 1.) The Work- The school is very tech-oriented, so bad computer test takers scores will go down, also for homework, many of the teachers make you print off your work at home. 2.) The Students- Some of the students here are the most rowdy, annoying things ever. However if you take Honors and AP classes, you will likely avoid them. So depending on your schedule can determine your interaction with these particular students. Most(emphasize that word) of the teachers are really great at their job, and naturally I won't name names. The environment is very clean, one of the cleanest in the county, however some days the bathrooms are particularly grungy, but not too much. The principal is great, way better than the old one thats for sure.

The school of which I am attending can be quite horrendous at times. While I can say that it certainly does have more choices than the school I was previously going to attend, the communication between parents, staff, as well as students in question is lacking at best. Most times, I'm not even aware of days when there isn't school until the day before. Also, my parents were not made aware of when I was to pick classes for my next school year, and neither was I until the day I was scheduled to do so. The teachers are pretty nice, but some seem to be lacking in being aware of their students, and their different needs for learning and such. And as for the behaviour of my peers, it is very obvious that their behaviour leaves much to be desired, some actions even going unnoticed.

i dont like this school. its very overcrowded and theres alot of bullying, drugs, and fights that go on. i think the teachers dont care about the students, although there are a few good ones, and the prinicpal smiles in your face while knowing the problem wont be fixed. my children have gone to other harnett county schools and have had no problems. they were bullied as soon as they got here and nothing was done until my son stood up for himself and he was the one punished. this is the worst school ive ever seen

This school now has a very strong principal and is turning this school into a A+ rating. My personal issue in the past with this school was the communication between principals/teachers/staff to parents. There was little to none. Now, you can rest assured that this new principal is very involved with the students as well as the parents. Communication is outstanding from conferences to email and telephonic notifications as well as the Parent Assist Program where a parent can track their childs academic progress on a daily basis online.

My son has went to Overhills High for two years and he likes it. He is in Honors science and doing well in all classes. The kids at the school seem to be accepting of all kids. The teachers email me with progress and the office staff is friendly.

I love this school! I have two sons that attend Overhills and they are doing amazing! I counselors are great! Anytime I have a question I can just call or email and I get a response back that day. I feel like like they always have an open door policy for parents with any questions or concerns. We moved to this area for this high school because they have the highest test scores in the county and I am thankful we did!

Overhills High is a wonderful school. So much effort goes into helping student succeed through after school tutoring, Saturday academy for those with attendance issues, and an opportunity for any student to retake a teacher-made test to improve their grade. Those who speak negatively about the school are just plain uninformed.

I have 2 students in OHS and they absolutely love it !!!!! They came from another Harnett Co school and they love it here. The atmosphere is great. Students are friendly, JV went 10-0 in football and varsity made the play-offs. The education that they are receiving is great. The school has been a school of distinction for the past several years. I would not send my children anywhere else. Hands down the best in Harnett CO.

The school is overpopulated has a very negative atmosphere. if any student says they love this place they are either specail one way or another or they are involved and hiding somthing. As a former and recent student id reccomend other choices first. Keep a close eye on your Student/Kids.

I am very disapointed in this school I have 2 daughters that graduated from other schools in different states and this place is thebiggest disapointed .Counselors are not on the same page, teachers do not comunicate with the parents the open house was a huge mess information was not handed to parents, people were running from room to room ,coaches and some teachers at this school do whatever they like and the principal does not even know what they are doing they are not offering try outs for kids that did not transfer in time ......the school is not at all a place that prepares the children for a future or for collage I wish I would have known this my daughter would never came to this school military children in this place are diregarded and the interstate compact is not followed unless the parents are educated about it ahead of the game

My daughter was starting her first year of High School not knowing anyone. She came home from the first day of school saying she loved this place! The principle is retired military and has a great relationship with the students. He gives them a little more freedom with cell phones and ipods than any school I've ever seen. They say it's to teach them responsibility and prepare them for the real world. They are not allowed in class and because they have this privilege, most don't abuse it. The class schedules are different than most High Schools. I feel that it's set up more like college with only 4 class periods a semester. The teachers are great and work with the students on bombed assignments or tests. I do have some concerns with drugs but I know that's going to be at any school, and don't know how it compares to the other schools. I do feel that she's in great hands when she walks through the door and that's my main priority!
