Our familys experience with Resurrection Lutheran School ended up being deeply disappointing. We originally chose RLS because it presented itself as a school that offered Christian formation, strong relationships, individualized attention, and a smaller, more attentive educational environment. Those were major reasons we entrusted our children to the school and committed to the tuition.

What changed for us was the schools decision to move forward with a single third grade class of 30 students. Just as concerning as the decision itself was the timing. Families were informed only after reenrollment decisions and deposits had already been made, which put parents in a very difficult position and left little time to pursue other options in an orderly way.

The explanation given to families did not inspire confidence. Rather than presenting a clearly developed, well-vetted plan from the start, leadership seemed to be building the details after the decision had already been made. From our perspective, that reflected poor planning and weak leadership on an issue that directly affects childrens education.

We also found the schools repeated emphasis on one teachers willingness to take this on to be beside the point. This was never about whether a teacher is caring or hardworking. It was about whether a single class of 30 students represented a sound structure and a good value for families paying private school tuition.

After touring other private Christian schools in the area, it became clear to us that there are schools at a similar price point, and in some cases less, offering much stronger facilities, more structured academics, more extracurricular opportunities, and a more polished overall program. That comparison made us question what exactly RLS is offering that meaningfully distinguishes it at this tuition level.

To the schools credit, after parent pushback it did offer a one-time refund exception for deposits. We appreciated that. But for our family, the larger issue was the breach of trust. Once a school makes a material change, communicates it late, and then appears to backfill the plan afterward, it becomes hard to maintain confidence in the leadership and direction of the institution.

We had hoped for a very different experience. Unfortunately, based on what we experienced, we could not confidently recommend RLS to other families.

We have been attending here for the passed couple of years and are extremely happy with the level of education our child has received. The teachers are great, the curriculum challenging. There is also a high level of safety that we are pleased with. The fact that its a Christian school is a plus!

I am well qualified to write this review as two of my children who have gone to RLS from K to 8th grade and I still have one at the school. Even though I have driven through the carpool line more than 2,000 times, I continue to thankful for this special place. For my introverted child, I felt they were able to find a place in the small, safe classrooms. For my more extroverted child, I appreciated the outside lunches and recess for middle schoolers (something not offered in public schools). For both my studious child and the child who needed a bit more academic help I'm thankful for the personalized instruction and extra time they were given from caring teachers willing and able to spend a bit of extra time encouraging each one.

Resurrection Lutheran School has been a great fit for our family, but it's not for someone with special needs or looking for extreme academic challenges. Because it's small, RLS allows everyone to participate in extracurricular activities which means the basketball team doesn't always win or the dramatic performance can't be heard. That's the beauty of the place - a family atmosphere with a supportive staff. Go for a visit. You won't regret it.

This is a hidden gem. In addition to learning they teach the students how to be good students and what it means to be a good student. If you want a smaller environment with an excellent curriculum, this is the right choice.

In a word, FANTASTIC. We love the school and how our child has thrived over three years now. The teachers are unmatched...they genuinely care about each student and push them on individual levels. Small class sizes enable this personalized approach. The students and parents get along so well and care about each other. We dont look for another school as weve found the best school thru eighth grade.

The school does not have the staff to meet very complicated IEPs, but we have found the small classroom size and the individualized attention coupled with higher expectations has my children working at a level I did not know they were capable of. The recent addition of a resource teacher who visits each classroom to work with struggling students has been a valuable addition.

Overall it has been a wonderful experience! Weve seen our boys thrive emotionally, spiritually, and academically. They have played sports and joined after school activities. We are thrilled with the young men our sons are becoming and Im truly sad that RLS doesnt go beyond 8th grade.

I have kids in both public and private and the homework is well done at RLS. They are getting the lesson reinforcement without being uncessarily bogged down with loads of work and multiple projects. They go to after school care and usually finish all their homework before being picked up. I love the use of Google chrome books to facilitate projects and writing assignments.

The teachers are wonderful. They have really gotten to know my children, spent time with them, gotten familiar with their learning styles and their strengths. Theyve listened to me as a parent and always effectively addressed any concerns.

It is a loving, inclusive Christian environment that works to unite the kids through Biblical teaching, weekly chapel, overnight trips for student bonding, community service, and loving correction when needed. My kids love it there and Ive seen them grow into more respectful and responsible people since theyve been there. Having a school environment that supports the same values we have in our home has been wonderful!

Overall, as transplants who have had experiences at several different schools across multiple communities, we are thrilled by the education that our kids are receiving at RLS. The academics are rigorous with a clear emphasis on STEM and language arts while the environment is strongly impacted by all the best aspects of spiritual guidance with a special focus on acceptance, tolerance and compassion. This last point is an important one as my family is not only not Lutheran but is actually not of the Christian faith and yet at no point did we ever feel like outsiders or were made to feel anything less than fully accepted and welcome at this wonderful school.

The topic of what is the "right" amount of homework is debatable and highly personal. From my perspective, RLS does a great job of threading the needle between respecting the fact that kids these days are busy with extracurricular activities and need time in the evening to focus on those activities as well as family time with the need to reinforce the learning that is happening in the class room as well learning a sense of accountability. The kids homework load gradually increases as they progress through the grades and is geared to preparing them for the self-determination that they will experience in high school and beyond. However, at no point as a parent did I feel exasperation that the kids were being "dumped" on with excessive work or that they were being asked to to fill in gaps at home of what should have been accomplished in the class.

I suspect that there is some self-selection in terms of the sort of teachers that prefer to teach in a small, family-centric environment such as RLS but without exception, the teachers have been amazing. They are long tenured, highly experienced professionals who lead with both compassion and deep expertise. My kids both love coming to school and the environment that the teachers have created is the #1 reason. While they are all great, Ms. Smith who teaches kindergarten, Ms. Moore who teaches 2nd grade, and Ms. Siemon who teaches 3rd grade have all had a profound positive impact on my kids. Again, they are all exceptional but those three really had a special impact on my children.

Mr. Kolb, the principle and Ms. Creasy, his right hand woman lead with the heart. They have challenges like one would expect in that they don't have endless resources at their disposal but they are kind, thoughtful, and know each child on a personal level. My recommendation to anybody who is considering the school is to watch drop-off each morning where you will see Rosie (Ms. Creasy) welcome each child every single day, rain or shine, with a warm hug and a smile. They are always working hard to sustain a warm and safe environment for the kids.

I love Resurrection Teachers. Mr. Kolb and Rosie Creasy are both great role-models for the kids. The teachers are supportive and helpful to all the kids. Everyone is so open and friendly . My daughter has flourished at this school. My daughter struggled with confidence and they have supported and guided her . She feels confidant answering questions now. She is a advocate for herself and her peers. She has really blossomed . I looked forward to the next few years at this school.

I love how the teachers use a hands-on approach to teach my children! On any given day, my children are making paper mâché globes, measured mazes for their hatched beatles, life-size diagrams of the human body...it goes on and on! The class size enables the children to experience this method of teaching and my children are thriving! Communication from the teachers is second to none!

I can't agree with this statement more. My children are learning to "see the need" in their everyday life - being inclusive with all children at church, their sport teams, etc. We have never had an issue with peers and the children do respect and admire each other and their differences. RLS does such a great job in teaching the children they are all precious and valued. Their confidence soars!

While students must be meeting the standards to their grade, RLS supports a range of academic ability. The student:teacher ratio is low allowing for individualized attention in the classroom. Teachers strive to provide a full years growth for every student.

We moved away from the area and had to leave this gem of a school. My kids are now enrolled in a Classical Christian model that pushes them. But, comparatively, RLS was average. What makes RLS above average are the people - from students to teachers to parents, they all come together and are focused on the children. I believe that learning how to be Christ-like is as important, if not more, in school as the educational measuring stick. These teachers are all passionate about their classes and that translates to the children. Since we've moved, my children have been to two other schools - they have been exposed to foul language and bullying at both, which was never a problem at RLS. I now long for RLS, and want other schools to model their methods. To illustrate the character of these children, my 6-year old son was in the after-school program and so badly wanted to play sports/games with the older children. The 5th, 6th and 7th grade boys integrated my son into their competitive games and made him feel special. These children are learning how to put others before themselves, which is a difficult concept at any age, and doing it nobly.

RLS is an unbelievable place to give children a start in life. I have children who attended RLS from K-8 and I continually marvel at how well-equipped they have been to be competitive students and compassionate people in the years that have followed. The teachers and administrators guided their education with great care and expertise and encouraged my children to be confident and lifelong learners. I echo the words of the teacher who posted a review below (on May 18, 2015). I see the positive and lasting impact of Resurrection Lutheran School in my children's lives everyday!

My first grade daughter started RLS in October of this school year (2014-2015) because we were not happy with our base public school option. We could not be happier with this decision to switch. As a parent, I have been impressed by the positive and happy nature the teachers and administration exude. This alone can be seen at carpool drop off/pick up when the teachers greet the students by name and a smile and maybe a compliment or high five and holding the door open for them. I see respect for our children. I am also quite pleased with the academics. It is guided by the common core but executed well with creative and engaging instruction (unlike the public school which seemed like endless worksheets, endless standardized testing etc.). I feel like my daughter is challenged yet where she struggles a little more, in math, it is at her pace. My daughter loves her new friends and teachers. We were a little worried about the transition mid-year but everybody has been welcoming and helpful. At home we feel she seems happier with less anxiety. She wants to go to school. What could be better?

We are a new family this year at the school. We cannot say enough about the kind, loving, supportive environment our kids have entered. Our kids continually say, "Everyone is so nice!" Their projects have been creative, the extracurricular activities plentiful and the academics challenging. Worth a tour if you are considering private school in the Raleigh area.

You are paying for small class size and religion. Additionally, the teachers and staff are excellent and great to work with in and out of the classroom. The reason for the below average rating is as a result of their below average curriculum. The school's governing body determined this private school should adopt the federal standards also known as Common Core. This curriculum has been rejected by the NC public school system for being substandard along with other states across the country. My concern is this school only goes to 8th grade and with no public schools and very few private schools in NC using the Common Core curriculum, what will these children be prepared for when they transition.

Resurrection Lutheran School has just recently made tremendous improvements in their technology program. My 5th grader has used a mini iPad, a Chrome Book, and a PC. I really like how the school does not focus on one kind of technology but encourages the students to know how to navigate various kinds of technology. And I love the importance the school puts on teaching the students how to type.

This school is a gem. We are very pleased with the strong STEM curriculum and other offerings. My child is enjoying learning in an environment that values his individual gifts. The principal, staff, and teachers are attentive and very helpful. We also enjoy the small community atmosphere we have found at this school. The classes are rigorous and engaging for my child. We are extremely happy with our choice.

Resurrection Lutheran School has a very strong reputation in the community. Teachers are are passionate, creative and dedicated to educating the students of RLS. The school environment is very welcoming and encouraging consequently, students love coming to school! My children completed their K-8 schooling hand are excelling in a local Wake County high school. They are confident and have established wonderful study habits.

The school is good but has a tendency to lack discipline. The administrative staff is lacking some and their is a lot of bullying that is not taken care of. The principle is hard to talk to and but the administrative staff is nice. If your looking for a school that will get your children into a great collage, keep looking.
