See previous comments. They are also not receptive to constructive criticism from parents due to the "It's the standardized tests" defense.

My kindergartener receives significant homework, little of which is useful. My 3rd grader has lots of homework every night, all of which is drudgery and not challenging. When I sit with him to do it, I can see why he hates it, it's just repetitive and pointless, which turns him off to learning. He dreads going to class. If the homework was engaging and relevant, the amount wouldn't be as bad. As it is, it's just further reinforcement to hate school.

My kids are 5 and 8. I teach them honesty and fairness. I need an environment where learning is fun and kids are taught to be inquisitive, like science and math, and to place reading in context. -None of this is done, I can do the morals and ethics at our house. Rote, repetitive writing drills wherein the student repeats "According to the text" and other boilerplate intros when queried on context are one of many examples used that totally turn kids off to learning. Student report cards are unintelligible and have all required phone calls to the staff to explain them.

Students are taught to make the school look good on standardized NC test scores. Teachers are afraid to deviate from standard curriculum (Which is taught in a manner to make learning boring and unengaging) because the principal constantly reinforces these tests. Kids are even quizzed by the principal on standard test score objectives. -Cart leading the horse. Kindergarten classes are not allowed to speak. It's like a mobile tomb. We are moving.
