Where do I being, this school is not qualifying for children with disability they don't go by medical records they go by their own personal opinions
They are not qualified to evening understand children with disabilities they call a child with ADHD a behavior problem A child who is taking medication for attention disorder they call it out of control
PTSD they looks bypassed all diagnosis and ask you is it possible to ask the doctor for more medication for your child
I was evening asked to keep my kid home from school, which I did
My kid had a really tough year in the school only because they were not equipped to handle a child with her diagnosis
The IPE is a whole joke , they clearly didn't understand what she needed, they wrote more write up than anybody could imagine
There was many situations where there was grown adults harassing a child and I have proof
They have bus drivers who sit kids on the bus who don't get along and say really awful things hoping for something to happen
I went to the board of education and unfortunately nothing happened
Talking about a kid who lost both parents a year apart at 6 years old and they couldn't see that she needed special help if I had any idea this school was not equipped to help her she would have never went she never had a one-on-one until the very end of the school year
They said she bully kids her first year there she got slapped on the bus and had to still ride with the child that slapped her but every time she did something on that bus she was kicked off
I'm definitely looking into the disability rights for children because they broke every rule top it off I put her in a behavior facility the doctors in the therapist in the behavior system facility they got the same diagnosis that she had the whole time they said things should have been put in order for her
And to top it off now she is not allowed to come to her own graduation
This school has been a living night no compassion no understanding and no respect
From the disability Act for children show them all my paperwork and her doctor's paperwork and see what can be done
This school should be shut down

Moving from Ft. Bragg to the areas schools has been a great experience! We love the ability to be involved in the school. We love the holiday activities. We love the 3rd grade academics and had a fantastic bus driver!

For 3rd grade my son had a teacher that refused to acknowledge his raised hand for so long, he wet himself. She left the school before the end of the year and was replaced by a brand new teacher who was lovely, if inexperienced. My son’s 4th grade teacher is wonderful and the only reason he is still attending this school. My son gets bullied relentlessly on the bus. The school promises to address it, but does nothing. The PE teacher punishes the entire class by walking the students down a hallway and stopping to have all of the teachers in the 5th grade hallway come out of their rooms and laugh at them. My son was accepted into the AIG program, and 5 months later the school still has not had the meeting they were going to arrange to explain what that means for my child. Most importantly, my son broke his arm at school. My son was not even sent to the nurse! I did not receive a phone call. NOTHING!!! I get lots of assurances from staff that these things will be addressed. I have never seen actual action. It just seems to get worse. My son wants to be homeschooled next year and he has always adored school. I am very dissatisfied with this school.

The above report is incorrect and is unfair to the teacher. The student in question did not participate in class, the teacher could not read his work nor could she follow his “methods”. This student would not talk when asked very specific questions about his work and calls to the parents for the most part went unanswered. The student made false accusations as well. If parents are going to make these type of comments about teachers then the teachers should be able to defend themselves. BTW once this student was moved to the new classroom, he exhibited the same behaviors with his new teacher as he did with his two previous teachers that he has had this past year. (Yes, this student was moved into my room from another teachers room as well for the same issues!)

A lot of the students we have dealt with are selfish, cause trouble then blame others for it and lie.

Posted: January 15, 2020

To many incidences of things being "forgotten" and slipping through the cracks.

Posted: January 15, 2020

I have had many issues with teachers ignoring my child's struggles then shaming and belittling them about it.

Posted: January 15, 2020

Bullying continues even when brought to their attention.

Up until this year it was great. All of my kids have been through this school in the past 8 years and they had some amazing teachers. Now it seems they all got wise and left to better schools.

This school just sends worksheets home with barely, if any, prior instruction on some of it. My child doesn't understand some things and then stresses and worries over it because the teacher will openly and publicly embarrass her for not having it done.

Before this year problems with teachers for my family were few and far between. So far this year I have had to deal with a 3rd grade teacher bullying, intimidating, openly shaming, and threatening my child. This teacher even has a newly completed Masters in school administration/education... This teacher denied everything, complained about his work, and lied to my face about my child. Confronted with his work it turned out that she just didn't take the time to understand his methods! Had my child out for 2 weeks waiting on a response and fulfilment of our classroom change request. Horrible teacher she is!!

So much to say about this school. It simply needs to be addressed about the violence and disruptions, bullying, and destructive behaviors. Some teachers and the principal were not effective at guaranteeing my childs safety. Nothing got done when i reported my child being bullied. I spoke to other parents who agree that something needs to be done immediately. Its truly chasing away good people.

The district is hurting for teachers, so whatever the teachers want to do, the principal will back them up. Regardless if the teacher is doing the right thing or not.

My child was bullied and it was handled, but minimally. The child who was bullying my child bullied others, and was still attending the school.

Posted: December 16, 2018

My child comes home with a worksheet every night and doesn’t understand because it was briefly discussed in class. If the child has a question, they are told to ask their classmate first, not the teacher. I’m not confident another third grader is capable of giving my child the correct information.

This is the second year I’ve had my child at this school, and it’s the second time I’ve dealt with a lazy teacher who just uses the computer to teach children. Children read a passage and answers questions. I feel the district hires whoever they can get.

The low ratings of this school are very accurate!!! The teachers FAIL to communicate with parents if your child is not doing well or has numerous missing assignments. You find out how your child is doing when you see they’re failing on their progress report or report card. You practically have to nag them to find anything out about your child.

My child’s future is in their hands, and the teacher just passes them along regardless if they need help or not. The teachers I’ve dealt with this far, have been awful. Lazy, and don’t seem to care or actually want the children to learn.

Additionally, the school is in poor condition. It looks like a jail inside, but worse. The ceiling tiles have water stains and holes in them. The school is dirty. I hate sending my children to this school.

Horrible, horrible, horrible school!!

The third grade building looks like a dungeon! The walls in the halls are filthy, wholes in doors, and no fencing from the woods in the back of the school! Also black mold all over the sidewalks outside!

It's just the beginning of the school year. It's my child's first year at this school, and within the first few weeks there have been some trouble in the classroom with a troubled student. A student causing a hostile environment for the others multiple times. If issue gets better or worse, review will be updated. As of now, I'm not happy with the way things are being handled just yet.

South Harnett Elem. needs to update their school website . How can parents get any information with whats happening at the school? Sometimes little ones aren't the greatest source of info and sometimes not so reliable in bringing home newsletters. My son has no problem remembering to bring home homework assignments but newsletters? forget it half the time lol. I think its great that on a teachers classroom website there is an option to see what the curriculum is and updates but its out of date or there is no information.

This school has come a long way. We have three children that have went to this school and the last two years have been wonderful. I can see that the curriculm and focus on getting the children on grade level and raising the standard has been a major focus. The teachers are good and seem to care about the childrens education. The office staff is very nice and friendly.
