I attended this school from kindergarten through 5th grade and had a terrible experience. As a Latina student, I faced bullying from other students about my appearance, and the environment felt very exclusionary. Instead of keeping the focus on faith and academics, teachers brought their political opinions into the classroom. Even the priest used his platform to talk about politics, which made me feel targeted, degraded, and completely unwelcome. Because of the behavior of the staff and the priest at COKSM, I ended up feeling less connected to God and stopped wanting to go to church entirely. I still believe in God, but this school made me dislike church because they did not practice what they preached. Leaving this school was the best decision, and I felt so much better, happier, and more relieved the moment I left. I do not recommend this school.

We have had 4 children at this school. The school is fantastic. All of our children have made great progress in their education. The school has won the blue ribbon award twice during the time our children attended. It is an excellent faith Based school that has allowed our children to thrive!!

I have had 4 children graduate from COKSM and they were all well prepared and felt loved and supported by the faculty. They have a resource department and reading interventionist. COKSM has a strong basketball program, a successful dance team, cheerleading, archery, tennis etc. When you go to COKSM you become part of the family.

Christ Our King - Stella Maris Catholic School is a wonderful well rounded Catholic Christian education that I am proud to have been a parent of 3 children spanning 23 years. COKSM did an amazing job of preparing my children for high school and beyond with good study skills, excellent traditional educational foundation, self confidence, and positive Christian moral values. The teachers and administration has always been caring, focused, and positive with the best interest of the children at heart. The school offers an extensive variety of extra circular activities and sports and lots of opportunities for parent volunteering and support. COKSM is an excellent feeder school to Bishop England High School which also is an amazing school. I feel blessed that my children have been a part of both of these special places.

We love COKSM! All three of our girls went there and even though they each have different personalities. Theyve all had good experiences. Great families and teachers and I will always be impressed by the way admin handled Covid-19.

We came to COKSM 2 years ago from another town. We felt the school was very welcoming and have had an amazing experience. COKSM is a wonderful school based on faith, core values, education, and the promotion of the development of the whole child. I currently have three children enrolled at COKSM and even though each child shares different interests, strengths, and weakness, each has thrived at COKSM due to the great staff. COKSM is a great community/family of parents, students, teachers, coaches and administration. Thank you COKSM!

As a military family that moves every two to three years, we are well versed with public and private schools. This school has been by far the most unwelcoming of a new middle schooler. The school is overcrowded with public school numbers. The facility is outdated. The weekly church contributions are very high but none of this money is put into the rehabilitation of the school. This is a very watered down Catholic school that does not reflect the Christ-like values we are used to. They just dont know how to teach the kids to be kind and inclusive and allow the new kids to be ostracized from the groups. Most of the teachers are very good and are committed to the students, however there is a missing link at this school, perhaps the fact that it does not service the whole child. There are a lot of wealthy families rolling in from Daniel Island, perhaps that is why my humble, down to earth child could not relate to their stuck up demeanor. There are other choices in town such as PCA or Crown Leadership Academy.

COKSM provides an excellent education, especially for college-bound students. Our daughter attended Grades 5-8 and while she had to earn her good grades at COKSM, the preparation for High School was excellent. Since leaving she has taken all Honors and AP classes and scored at the 94th percentile on both the ACT and SAT without studying. You cannot go wrong at this school!

Top Notch. My students received a high quality education that well prepared them for High School Honors program and also for College. And the values that they reinforced here prepared them for life well after college.

The teachers at COK-SM truly care about their students. It's not uncommon to get a personal message from the teachers about how well they are doing with their class work, or to let us know they might need extra help with a subject. The teachers are willing to spend time with students that need extra help, before or after school and even during lunch period. They help reinforce our Christian values thru their teachings and their own example.
Posted: November 16, 2017
Students are encouraged to show compassion and respect for others as teachers nominate them for being most "Christian-like" on a weekly basis. The school gives back to the community through the "We Give Wednesday program" in which students research and choose the charities that we donate to weekly. Learning about charity and respect throughout their years at COK-SM prepares the 8th grade students to volunteer their time and effort on their own charitable project before graduating.

Our Principle/President model is very effective in that it gives the Principle time to work with teachers and students on an every day basis, and allows our President time to work with growing and improving their learning environment.

Discipline at the school is non existent. Kids do whatever they want with no ramifications for their actions. There is significant bullying and Splandino does nothing. Lunch Bunch is a joke.

COKSM offers a wonderful Catholic based educational experience. My children have received faith and fact learning with emphasis on reasoning skills. The comraderie amongst the students and parents is unsurpassed.

The second year principal has been a great supporter of students with learning challenges. Two resource teachers now aid students with their specific academic modifications, have small group tutorials, and make sure that all teachers are following student improvement plans. All elementary teachers also had Orton Gillingham training this past summer. The elementary grades began a new series which encompasses reading, writing, grammar, and spelling this summer year. I also have been impressed with the prinicpal's new hires. One math teacher, two English teachers, and one religion teacher have joined the middle school. The technology department got a total reboot with having a new dedicated middle school instructor and an elementary school one. My children have been learning more this year than ever before. The guidance department expanded with now having two counselors, one for the upper and lower school. The library also has a new librarian who is making great changes to the school. My 3 children have enjoyed their time at COKSM. It is a perfect size which offers varied activies and opportunities like a larger school. Thankfully though, students are seen as individuals.

My 3 sons started in the 4's at COK- 2 have graduated from college and one is a junior now. I can only say good things about the experiences all 3 had here!!! They still have the same, wonderful group of friends since they were 4, and they were well-prepared for high school as well as college. The teachers truly care about the development of each student, educationally as well as emotionally. Catholic education is a choice, and we made a great choice sending our sons to Christ Our King!!!

We are so glad we found this school. This school is like our second family.

Christ Our King is a fantastic school. Our son has attended from 4K to 8th grade and our daughter is currently in 1st grade. Teachers and staff are responsive and attentive to student's needs. Our children have excelled at this school and are receiving a strong Catholic education.

Our children have attended COK for 3 years now. I could not be happier. The administration handles situations promptly and carefully regarding our Catholic values. The teachers show an immense love for their job and our children. I have found there is not a perfect school but COK for our family has been the right choice and have never regretted leaving public school.

This school once had a waiting list to attend, but the staff settles on their choices for teachers. My son's computer class was learning how to build chairs out of paper rolls instead of coding or programming. Spanish is given in the 1st-8th grades and the students are unable to speak Spanish upon exiting the school. Most middle school teachers should be replaced, great elementary teachers.

There is no place I would rather have my three children educated than a place full of heart, wisdom and the desire to evolve into something greater than the day before. No person, place or thing is perfect, but a perfect light from above shines on this school guiding it's way. I believe not only are my children getting the best education possible, but are also learning how to develop their unique gifts and talents in order to make a difference in this world. Each child matters at COKSM!

We transferred our two daughters (2nd and 4th grade) to Christ Our King-Stella Maris School this year and couldn't be happier! Our girls had a smooth transition and were welcomed into the school by both faculty and students. The administrative staff is also helpful and welcoming. All of the teachers have been fabulous and we have found it to be an extremely positive learning environment. The teachers really care about their students, are responsive to questions, and are dedicated to the school. Our children have felt very comfortable in the smaller classes and are thriving here. So far, we have had an outstanding experience and are so happy that our children attend school here.

Christ Our King - Stella Maris is a Blue Ribbon winning, IB Catholic School. I love the size of the school (not too big, not too small), it's emphasis on academic excellence, personal responsibility, involved parents, dynamic teaching & administrative staff all in a generally caring, compassionate environment. My only complaint was that the teachers, while excellent at identifying children with minor learning differences, have not been trained to work with these children. I've learned some early childhood teachers will be attending a summer education series on learning to teach using a multi-sensory learning approach. LOVE IT! Private schools are NOT one size fits all & this is no exception, but for us it's been a great fit for our daughter.

Christ Our King Stella Maris is a wonderful place. We have two children who have been enrolled since the 4K program. The teachers are exceptional people who go out of their way to show love and wisdom to our kids. Both of them have loved their teachers every year and we have been very blessed to say, we've had nothing short of an amazing experience. The staff is kind and helpful. The nurse is wonderful. I couldn't be happier. My children feel loved and cherished by their teachers but they know that they aren't going to get away with much either! They are above average for grade level and we are pleased with their progress. They are growing up with good friends and we've made some as well. Overall, we couldn't be more pleased.

We have four children attending COK-SM. They all attended the 4K program and are now in 1st, 3rd and 5th. We are extremely pleased with the teachers, staff, President & Principal. We love the small class sizes as well as the community feel of the school. We feel very lucky to be able to send our children to COK-SM.

We love COKSM. Our daughter is thriving in this environment. We love the combination of church and school and the teachers provide comfort and confidence to our child. She feels loved and special everyday. The only thing I wish the school would improve on is the amount of candy and junk food they administer to the students. We would love to see some healthier options for rewards and special celebrations.

We are non-Catholics and have been at Christ Our King School for 8 years. Both of our girls have loved coming to school since the beginning. Our entire family has established wonderful friendships here. The class sizes are small enough to allow for effective teaching but big enough that the children can make new friends each year as the classes are rotated. We love the challenging curriculum of the middle school IB program which is providing a well rounded experience for our middle schooler. While I think studying from e-textbooks is difficult, I think that the Ipad program is allowing the 5th thru 8th graders amazing opportunities to utilize a wide variety of apps to improve their knowledge and skill base. Now that the school has adopted the President-Principal model the changes have been amazing. We love the focus on education, leadership, character, sportsmanship and doing for others that is incorporated seemlessly into daily life at school. The one aspect I feel is lacking at Christ Our King is an option for the more advanced elementary aged children to stay challenged through a Talented and Gifted program or the ability to learn advanced material within the classroom.

We could not be happier! We have three children that attend Christ Our King Stella Maris, and can truly say they are receiving a wonderful well-rounded education. The community of parents is amazing. We have similar values and it shows through when you see how the children behave and how they treat one another. We have had a first year teacher and we have had a teacher who has been there for over 30 years, and they were both wonderfully qualified, devoted to their students and in touch with current standards of education. Our children are eager to go to school everyday, they love their school community and so do we.

I attended Christ Our King-Stella Maris school for 7 years and then returned after receiving my graduate degree as a teacher. It has been a great honor to be a part of the COKSM family as both a student and as a faculty member. The school has been a major inspiration for me throughout my life. It is where I developed a strong Catholic identity, received an excellent education, and met many life-long friends (several of which now work with me at the school). Today the school is even better than ever! We have the most beautiful campus in the Lowcountry,. We have a talented and well-trained staff. We are on the cutting edge of technology with iPads, Lego Robotics, Technology Clubs, and more. We consistently receive top honors academically and athletically. We provide students with a solid Catholic foundation with weekly mass attendance, preparation for the sacraments, charitable works, and service hours. We have the best community of parents, parishioners, and alumni of any school I have ever seen. Christ Our King-Stella Maris is truly something special and I highly recommend that everyone, Catholic or not, experience what it has to offer. It is a truly wonderful school!

My eldest child graduated from this school and was very prepared for a rigorous high school curriculum. My two youngest children are still attending the school and have been very happy and very challenged academically. The school offers a wonderful foundation of christian beliefs and is welcoming to children of all faiths. I highly recommend anyone to consider this school as an alternative. If you looked at it in the past, come look at it again, it is a "new school".

I have 2 sons (1st and 3rd grade) and we have been so happy with Christ Our King-Stella Maris for them. Only having 3 to 4 classes per grade keeps it focused and a family type atmosphere. My boys have improved tremendously not only in academics but in behavior as well.

My daughter has been attending COK since kindergarten and is now in the 7th grade. She has been very happy. Parents are very involved and I have been pleased with the President/Principal model.

Our children have been students at COK-SM for 4 years. We are very happy with the education and Christian environment that has been provided. The family involvement is high. The academics are top-notch, and the ipad program really puts the school ahead of others , providing the kids with computer-experience they will need for the electronic world we are live in.

My children love the "small" atmosphere at COK-SM-- enough kids to have several classes for each grade--and they love knowing who everyone is...the 4K program has fantastic and warm loving teachers. Both of my kids look forward to going to school every single day at COK-SM and we have found the school to be very enriching and rewarding for our entire family,

Two of our children transferred from good public schools this year, primarily because we wanted a smaller school environment for our son. COK-SM has exceeded our expectations. Great, caring teachers, stellar curriculum, and supportive student community. Our children feel part of a wonderful community. Good extra curricular activities too. We are supporters of public school education, however for our son, it wasn't the best fit. We are so thankful to have made the change...even though it has been an adjustment in the short term.

We are so proud to send our daughters to COK-SM. They nurture, support and push our girls to achieve their fullest potential. The Catholic values that we teach at home are reinforced at school. The teachers and administration are always available at any given time. We are so thankful to have institution as out neighborhood school.

COKSM is a wonderful, academically strong, Christian based and family oriented school. I am so proud to have my daughter complete her 4th year at the school. The teachers are great and I feel the students are learning so much more than they would in the local public school system. The leadership is strong and parents are actively involved.

COKSM instituted the President - Principal Administration model beginning with the 2012 - 2013 school year. It has been a great year for our school, students, faculty and parent community. We strive every day to improve on our very successful 63 year history of providing a quality Catholic education in our Mt Pleasant community.

Christ Our King - Stella Maris School is an exemplary catholic school, committed to it's students - teaching them both academics and christian values. Parents can rest assured that their children are receiving individualized instruction, spiritual development, and an awareness of the community and world around them. The teachers are top-notch, caring, and dedicated to the students, not just for one year, but for their entire COKSM journey. There is ample opportunity for parents to be involved, volunteering in the classroom or for school fundraisers.

Christ Our King provides a wonderful Catholic education. The curriculum is challenging and the teachers do a great job including the fundamental aspects of Catholicism in their teaching.

COK-SM school has been wonderful for my children. They have been there since preschool and are in middle school now. The teachers and staff are so friendly and helpful. There are many after school activities and sports available for the students to try. Parents are very involved; teachers are always willing to speak with parents who have questions or concerns. The iPad program for 5th-8th grade is helping students learn by staying up to date with technology and they will definitely benefit in high school and beyond from what (and how) they are learning now. The school is very welcoming and feels like family; it will be hard to say goodbye after 8th grade.

Outstanding teachers provide our children with an amazing academic experience but always keep our Catholic faith at the forefront of learning and teaching them how to be respectful, faithful and kind individuals. The parent community is supportive and encourages involvement. The small size helps the children feel comfortable and safe.

COK-SM has been a great experience for our 3 children. They have found a caring and catholic environment together with high academic standards. The school is moving in a great direction with the integration of the IB and iPad programs.

COKSM is a wonderful school that provides an exceptional academic and Catholic education. We love the enthusiasm the teachers display in the classroom and the staff is so kind and helpful. The small classroom size gives each and every student the personal attention they need to learn, grow, and develop. Lastly, the iPad program the school implemented separates this school from the rest! It is amazing to see what the students can do and what they are learning with those devices. Our children started COKSM school when they were in 4K, we are still very happy after 7 great years, and look forward to more years to come.

My husband and I have found that the strong emphasis on academics, in addition to the school's small size, provides an outstanding experience for our three children. The International Baccalaureate program has helped my middle schooler develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills he needs to participate effectively in today's world. It also has a wonderful HSA, which allows parents to contribute to the school in many different ways.

My 2 children, my husband and all his siblings graduated from this school. Great then, great now. Excellent staff, faculty, and administration. If you want Catholic based education and excellent academic program this school is for you.
