The small classroom size ensures the family-oriented nature of this school is felt by the students every day. With two recent graduates, I can attest that the preparation for high school is elite. Both of my graduates were extremely prepared as they transitioned to high school. As my third child nears the end of his journey, we are excited to see him enjoy the independence, leadership, and growth that makes a K-8 school uniquely different.

We couldnt have asked for a better K-8 school experience for our children. The two that have graduated remember their time there fondly and say it was the best school with both great friends and teachers. They were both very well prepared for high school and beyond, often ahead of their peers who went to different elementary/middle schools.

Charleston Day School has been an incredible experience for our family, and I can't recommend it highly enough. As a K-8 institution, it offers a unique and nurturing environment that allows children to grow and develop throughout their formative years. Our two sons are thriving here, both academically and personally.

We have loved Charleston Day for our family! Our children are excited to go to school everyday where the faculty and staff both know every child and call them by name. They love their relationships with kids in other grades and with teachers as well. The academic importance parallels character education and that is what is most important to us about this amazing school community!

We started our daughter at Charleston Day this year in the first grade and we've been extremely happy with our choice. The teachers/staff/administrators are very welcoming, warm, and kind every single day. The school grounds and facilities are well-kept and the academic focus is strong. Ms. Russell does a fantastic job keeping the students focused and challenging students who are at a higher level. It would be so hard to do teaching at this age and her teachers do it so well. We have been highly impressed by the music teacher, Ms. Hawkins and the art teacher, Ms. Weber that offer so much enthusiasm, knowledge, and fun projects. My daughter also raves about the fun she has in technology class. One of the top reasons we chose the school was for their food lunch program which has very delicious hot lunches and nice fruit choices and the other reasons are for their location, small size, and top academics. Our year is full with a waiting list so the word is definitely out about how well-liked it is by the students. The high school placement is the highest around for private schools, which also shows how well they prepare their students. They also have character class and an on-site counselor which is really great to help with friendships. My daughter was having trouble making connections as a new student and when I asked the counselor to help she stepped right in observing at different times, talking to both classes about making new friendships, and playing games. Several of the moms have told me they really like that CDS offers free after school tutoring if your child is behind to help catch them up. Finally, the parent meet-ups and student events/assemblies are so much fun like they had a glow party with breakdancers and start of school with College of Charleston Cheerleaders, wine/cheese type social events for adults, family bingo, and much more. My daughter loves having a "big" to support her. It's so exciting that the school just bought a large piece of property nearby to develop for more facilities and outdoor space. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Wonderful K-8 school in downtown Charleston where kids are challenged academically and receive tremendous support from teachers. Family atmosphere, strong focus on character development and confidence-building, plays and performances, sports programs, and a place where everyone knows your child's name and makes them feel special.

My children have thrived at CDS. The school offers a nurturing environment with rigorous academics and excellent character building programs like public speaking. It is a terrific place to be a young kid. The K-8 experience is the best!

CDS is hands down the best elementary school in the Charleston area, and perhaps the entire state of South Carolina. My child has thrived academically, socially and emotionally, and loves going to school every day! The teachers truly care about each individual child and want to see them succeed.

The school was incredibly supportive of my children. Teachers form close relationships with students and families, and I really appreciated the personal connections. I found the curriculum to be (appropriately) challenging, and my kids were well-prepared for high school with excellent reading, writing, math, and communication skills.

Charleston Day School's biggest strength is it's teachers. They are very experienced teachers who use best teaching practices and go above and beyond to help the students. Their professionalism and spirit is a breath of fresh air! Their curriculum is thoughtful, meaningful, and always evolving to stay current, challenging, and diverse. If your child is a hard worker both in and out of school, they will do very well with the rigorous curriculum. Charleston Day is steeped in tradition yet always looking for ways to do better and stay innovative. It is worth every penny!

5 stars! Charleston Day School is a special place tucked away in downtown Charleston. The small class size and K-8 school provides a nurturing and exciting environment for learning. The faculty and teachers not only know how your child learns, but also their interests outside of the classroom, they do a wonderful job supporting different personalities and learning styles as well as guiding the character of the students.

My child and his peers enjoy their lessons from character class led by the school counselor. As in many schools with young children if there is ever an issue teachers have stepped in and any issue or conflict is immediately resolved.
