Our family has been so grateful for the community we’ve found at this school. The small teacher-to-student ratio allows teachers to truly know and support each child, while providing a strong, challenging academic curriculum that keeps our son engaged and motivated. We love that Christ and faith are woven into the everyday learning experience. Our son feels accepted and valued by both his teachers and peers, which means the world to us as parents. The athletic opportunities have also been a wonderful way for him to grow in confidence and teamwork. We truly feel blessed to be part of this school family.

Our child has been attending SCS for two years now. The staff is wonderful, from the principal to the teacher's. The care for the children can be seen in everything from the events planned, to the curriculum for the children, to the learning environment.

My daughter was tormented at SCS. She was physically and emotionally bullied. When we went to the principal Mr. Tisdale he was useless. We were told if your child wasn’t so shy she wouldn’t get bullied. They only cared about their tuition. We met with the Archbishop and he said the school was nothing but problems. It’s sad that my daughter just wanted to go to school and learn and instead was treated so poorly. Small class size you would think the teachers could see and prevent this but instead looked the other way. So upsetting what she went through. Please be careful before you sign your precious children up for hell.

My daughter is about to finish up her 3rd year at SCS and we absolutely love it and know we made the right choice sending her here. She has grown not only academically but spiritually as well. I love that the children all have prayer partners, older classes are matched with the younger ones and they do fun activities together through out the year and when attending mass on Wednesdays they sit together. It really builds bonds throughout the school and everyone knows each other. The teachers all love their students and do everything they can to help them succeed. The fact that my child loves to go to school, excited to learn new things and see her teachers, previous teachers as well, every day speaks volumes to me about the compassion and care they show. Very happy with Summerville Catholic and the extended family we have gained from there.

This is the best school in the Tri-county area hands down. The teachers, staff and principal are all phenomenal and create an incredible environment for my kids to flourish in their knowledge and faith. I am so thankful for this school!

Beyond amazing! I can not say enough good things about Summerville Catholic. My daughter has grown leaps and bounds in the educationaly and spiritually. It is so great to hear her come home talking about new things shes learned, singing Christian songs and talking to God like her was one of her friends and I have to thank SCS for that and all the amazing teachers and staff. She is more sure of herself and I see a happy child coming out of school each day which is extremely important to me that she not only enjoys her school but LOVES going.

They match up the younger students with older prayer partners and make sure that from K3 up to 8th all know each other and get along. It's great to see my child who is only 5 being greeted by name by so many of the older students and seeing them genuinely happy to see her and give her a hug.

They have an appropriate amount per grade. I dont believe achools should send home hours and hours of homework.

I love this school and I'm very thankful that my family has the opportunity to send our child here. Although she's only in her first year I know it's made a difference. Not just with her academics but religiously as well. The school provides great communication, is active in the community and wants the best for our children. They too have children of their own going to the school so they know how important it is to make it the best. I love how close the kids are with each other, my 3 year old knows so many students and she's only been there a year! I would highly recommend sending you child to this school because you will get way more out of it than expected.

Right now my daughter is in K3. Every night she has homework that pertains to what she is learning in class. It's nothing time consuming or hard but more so to make sure she's reviewing what she learned in class at home. Other nights it's just reading a book to them. I find this valuable as a parent

The teachers here teach with love. They make sure your child gets the information they need in order to be successful. They take their time with each child, explaining what they are supposed to be learning with the lesson and how to apply it.

It's such a family oriented community that everyone looks out for each other, they love each other and respect each other. Everyone knows each other so it makes it easy to be so close. I think this helps establish integrity, compassion and respect.

Everyone at this school is a leader. They take pride helping each other. There are many programs such a prayer buddies, mentoring and more that establish leadership roles for the kids and setting an example for the young students.

Because everyone is so close there's always someone to help and protect those who are being bullied. I have not witnessed this myself but I feel confident that if bulling is going on the right procedures would take place.

This school has quite literally been a Godsend to both my daughter and myself. I have never encountered a school where teachers, administrators and ALL the students know each others names, and go out of their way to help each other. Older students mentor the younger students in a caring and appropriate manner, the teachers are caring, approachable, well educated and adored by the children. The administration will go above and beyond for any parent seeking to provide their child with a superior Catholic Education. The local Parishes are extremely involved in Summerville Catholic School, and the families and/or Parishioners who send their children there. They are also the backbone in providing Faith combined with life long educational learning as well as providing the proper morals our children need to be effective members and leaders in their communities. I have yet to have a bad experience with anyone there. We consider this school FAMILY. Really, there are not enough words to express what a gem this school truly is. They care, and this is something quite rare in this day and age. Please, do not hesitate to tour this school and see it for yourself. Summerville Catholic School is an absolute gift to children and families, as well as all of the service projects they provide within the community. It is a worthwhile investment if you truly want your precious child(ren) to thrive in life.

If there were an option higher than strongly agree, I'd select that option. SCS has what I would describe as a miraculous atmosphere where all students have and utilize opportunities to exercise integrity, compassion and respect. This happens at every age/grade level at the school.

The principal is completely vested in the school and its students. He knows each student by name and takes time to engage with students daily. He has long term plans to stay with the school and is always responsive.

I would not consider sending my children elsewhere. There are so many things happening at school that I hear about from my children that bring me great joy. They love attending SCS and have been thriving there. They have grown in faith, compassion, and kindness towards others and I have been amazed with the progress I see at the school.

Our boys have had a great experience at SCS. The school has truly provided them a complete family experience. All of the teachers and staff seem to know our boys very well and help them grow as good students and are helping them grow into good young adults. Having attended other private schools, we as parents have fully enjoyed the quality of their education and the the values that they instill in our children. I highly recommend SCS!

Both my daughter and son attend SCS. They have blossomed into very independant leaders in their everyday life. SCS teaches not only above the grade level curriculum, but they teach them how to be a leader both in the class and at home. I can't think of another school that I would have my children attend. We tried 2 others before SCS. SCS is our home!

I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about SCS. My son is a student at here and we have had an absolutely amazing experience from our very first visit. I find that the staff and Administration are fully vested not only in the lives of the students but and also in the families which definitely fosters a healthy environment for learning and growth. For our family SCS has truly been a blessing which is not lost on us. All that I can say is if you a looking for a diverse, nurturing and educationally advanced school for your child to attend then please consider SCS.

SCS has gone through a couple of changes in leadership in recent years, but seems to have hit the mark by promoting from within. The students all adore the principal, and he clearly knows each individual student. There is such a positive atmosphere!

There are students from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of learning needs. My daughter's class has students with physical and learning challenges, and the teachers do a wonderful job at differentiating and providing individual instruction. There are also inclusive education teachers available for students requiring additional support.

Only once since my daughter has been at SCS have I been concerned with bullying - and the minute I brought it up, it was immediately addressed. I was very pleased with the response and we have had no issues since.

Not only is the homework easily found on the RenWeb online application, there are strict guidelines as far as no homework over the weekends (not counting long term projects). I appreciate that family time on the weekends is still considered a priority.

My daughter has grown so much as a reader and as a science lover since we transferred to this school. She is in her 4th year here and the teachers continue to differentiate based on strengths and weaknesses. There are ample opportunities for after school help and additional resources. My daughter has loved her teachers at SCS.

Absolutely my favorite part of SCS is the character development. The students are heavily involved in service projects, helping each other, volunteering, and are held to a higher standard.

I wouldn't trade our family's experience at SCS for any other school. After 13 years as a parent with 2 children attending kindergarten through 8th grade, I feel very blessed with their educational experience. SCS is a wonderful community of caring and supportive teachers and families who come together to make SCS a fabulous learning environment where children grow in both faith and academics knowledge. It has been wonderful to be a part of the SCS family!

Let me begin by saying, I wish I attended this school as a child. We have been involved in this school since 2009. It is the best decision we have made for our 2 kids. Our son is still there and our daughter graduated and has begun her first year of HS this year. The teachers are amazing. They genuinely adore the kids and take pride in teaching. I hear mixed thoughts from friends and co workers about sending kids to Catholic or private schools. Some say it does not matter public or private, but I believe it does matter. Yes there have been negative occurrences in the school. SHOW ME A SCHOOL THAT HAS NONE. There are no "perfect" schools. But SCS is close enough to perfect for what we want for our kids. I can say I have had two situations where I needed to contact the school for an issue, it was resolved by the next school day. The positive occurrences far out number the negative. The school encourages the kids to want to learn. There is a closeness here that you don't find in many schools. If we ever had an issue or problem the door is always open, the staff has always been extremely welcoming and helpful to my family. They welcome the kids and families with open arms. Regardless of your religious belief you and your children are always welcome. If you are not Catholic, don't worry, they don't treat you or your child any different than the Catholic kids. Trust me, I am actively involved in the school and know most of the families there. Also, if you have a special needs child this may be the school for you. The kids welcome them and treat them the same as the rest of the kids. They treat them like friends and they understand if there is a special needs child and may have to help out if needed. The closeness of these children is truly amazing to see. Staff members are amazing, easily accessible, ready and willing to help your child in any way possible. I have emailed teachers over the summer and received immediate response with what ever my question was. They are more available than they should be. I am truly grateful for the teachers, they provided and continue to provide my kids with valuable learning experiences. My kids level of education is far beyond my education as a child. I owe their learning success to the staff at SCS. I would HIGHLY recommend Summerville Catholic to anyone looking for a great school to send their child.

My daughter has attended SCS for the past 7 years. SCS has been a blessing for our family. I feel like everyone at the school makes up an even bigger family. She has been pushed to achieve the goals she has set every year. All of her teachers have been great with communication. There is no other place we would rather be.

our daughter attended the great local public schools for K5 and 1st grade and we moved her to SCS for 2nd grade. Imagine my amazement in the level of growth we have seen in her. Her reading had improved tremendously and her math skills bury those of her public school peers. Being involved in everything from school soccer to arts programs and everywhere in between, plus the individualized attention she gets from her teachers in the small student ratio, makes me never doubt our decision to send her to SCS. The teachers care about those students to an incredible degree. I'm impressed at the religious knowledge she's gained. But most of all, I love seeing her interacting with her peers. So many good kids have become such good friends, both inside and outside of school. I would recommend SCS to anyone who wants their child to receive a quality education with great team building additional activities to participate in.

In a world of many choices, I am glad that we chose SCS for our family. Although it is hard for anyone or anything to be everything to everybody, it is nice to know that our family is part of the SCS family and community. Like a family, we look out for each other and look for what is best for our children. It is nice to know my child is receiving a wonderful education. Like anything,I found that if we do our part, homework, have great attendance, participate in extra activities, we receive the most from our school. I am proud to be a part of such a close, loving, faith based, and academic community.

After 4 years at SCS, we finally realized that the "superior private school education" that we thought we were paying for, was not that at all. We really wanted our son to receive a religious education, but it was not worth the anxiety and frustration we experienced with the other issues. After some VERY serious issues with our son were continually swept under the rug by the administration, we moved him to a public school. We were immediately shocked to discover that he was behind on several subjects. This had nothing to do with the teachers at SCS (who were amazing for the most part) and everything to do with the administration and the curriculum, as well as the apparent "takeover" of the school by a very aggressive group of "mean moms". Thankfully, we have been able to catch our son up, in just a short time, hopefully he doesn't suffer as he continues. Please research other options before "settling".

Love this school. We enrolled our son in the K4 program with intent to move him out to public. We fell in love with the family atmosphere. My son is in K5 now and is reading 2nd level books, testing at 100%. I highly recommend this school.

We left SCS this year and went to public school instead. My middle schooler still asks me if something is a city or a state or a country? I heard that history teaching was a problem but he always got good grades so I didn't question it. Now he can't even identify basic places on a US map. My other two children just LOVE the public school. My middle child dreaded going to school each day, to the point of tears sometimes. Now each day we ask how school was he says AWESOME! I can tell that not only is he getting good grades, but he is LEARNING and his teachers are responsive to parental questions and concerns. Bullying is the last thing on our minds in the Dorchester elementary schools, whereas we had SEVERAL reported problems at SCS with no resolution. Yes, they pray at SCS and preach Catholic values. However, they fail to live them. My children all saw the hypocrisy and we discussed it over dinner several times. I can get my religion for free at church and a better education elsewhere. We have never been happier in our decision to leave. More than the cost of the school we regret having exposed our children to such a place during their formative years.

Some parents or students may not like adherence to the uniform policy. There's no drama about what to wear each morning; just choose what's appropriate for the weather. The kids are less interested in what the others are wearing and are more focused on their instruction. The uniforms are purchased through Lands End and the dress code can easily be viewed that way. There is a wide variety of winter and summer clothes to choose from. Take a look at the miniskirts, see-trough items, and typed messages on things kids wear to other schools if you need a comparison.

SCS is certainly a school where faith and knowledge meet! I am thrilled the children get to experience activities like the All Saints Day Mass & Parade and the Living Saints Museum. The experiments that have taken place in the science lab are amazing!

We are new to SCS this year. Three months into school, we still find ourselves DAILY praising this institution. The teachers offer the students individualized instruction and are amazingly supportive and caring to both the students and the parents. Our Catholic faith is reflected in everything the school does. Each morning the children assemble together for prayer, student recognition, and song. Academics are rigorous and teacher expectations are high, assuring us that our daughter will be ready for future academic challenges. The principal is highly visible around the school and is open to ideas and suggestions. Further, the PSA is creative in the MANY activities they plan to bring the school community together; we truly feel part of a big family at SCS. We feel so blessed to have found this school!

If you would like your child to receive a poor education experience, this place sure is the place to send them. This school used to be great until the 2008 - 2009 school year. Since then it seems as if the staff has been getting worse and worse, lacking basic teaching skills. In Spanish they teach you the same thing each year. Social studies is flat out terrible, you don't even learn basic US history. Music is a disgrace considering that I'm in marching band, they don't even have a band program, what a shame! Bullying has also been a major issue here and the staff has never stepped in to correct the behavior of the student body, I thought this was a Catholic school! Another word of advice: The staff treats the middle school kids as if they are back in the elementary level. This school is so bad I don't know what else to say. Once again, I ask that anyone looking for a K4-8th school in the Summerville area should avoid this school. Save your money!

Summerville Catholic has more to offer than most schools, not everyone will agree with this statement but you will always have someone that is disgruntle with something or another. Sometimes we as parents need to learn for ourselves what is best for their child rather than listening to others unhappiness. My son went to Summerville Catholic from K5 through 8th grade. I've had a terrible experience here. The policys change monthly and discipline is treated with bias. My child is continually tells me "I wish you would have sent me to public school", the rules change too often, the teachers are biased, adminstration has gone downhill, education (specifically in social studies) is very poor. My child doesn't even know the Star Spangled Banner. This is unacceptable. Go elsewhere

Avoid SCS and go elsewhere. After 7 years there we are moving our kids to public school. There are a few good teachers which we re thankful for, but each year at least one of our 3 kids had a horrible experience. Bullying is downplayed and things that would get a kid kicked out of public school are treated with only minor punishment. The academics are on a downhill spiral. My son questioned an answer, providing multiple examples of why his was correct, and the teacher told him "that's not what the answer key says." Critical thinking is apparently not a skill they wish to foster in this school. They've had a new Spanish teacher almost every year and start over each time. There's no real advanced GATE-like program for bright kids, which is a shame. Extracurricular activities are few and far between. One boy has spit on, hit, choked, kicked, scratched and drew blood with different kids and he's still there. I told a Dorch II district rep this story and she said he would have been expelled from public school a long time ago. Check out the dates on the good reviews and read the recent ones from parents. All signs point to an admin failure with no change in sight.

Poor, it is quite sad due to the former prestige of this establishment. While my child was in first to third I had no complaints. After that, however, I do believe that it has gone downhill. My child is in eighth grade now, and believes that it is miserable to go to this school. The teachers are somewhat engaging but I was very surprised when my son lacked basic knowledge of USA history and seemed to have a better understanding of Latin history. I do remember the days when my child was joyful coming home from school, alas those days are over. Unsatisfactory, poor monitoring of bullying, very strange use of rules,and overall, very poor. Parental concerns are given the impression that they're being addressed, but are swept under the rug. Teachers lack compassion and do not offer struggling students help. Student body severely lacks the values and morals of the Catholic faith. Poor lunch program. Parents responsibility to transport children on field trips. Numerous families pulled out mid school year. That's a definite red flag.

If your child is in the lower elementary K4-1, good teachers but any older I would avoid. If you look at the dates of the reviews, you will notice they are all very old. None are recent. There is a reason for this! Look elsewhere.

This school remains on a downhill slide. If you are looking for a school stuck in the Middle Ages where parental concerns are ignored, issues with problem teachers continue year after year, and differential learning is discussed but not actually effectuated, this is the school for you.
