Any school that does not give up on kids is A+ in my books. It would be very easy to turn our backs on the kids at Greg Mathis, but they have not. The staff and administrators truly love the kids and their hearts are in the right place.
Often times, the true mark of a school is how they change lives of today's troubled youth. Their motto is "Expect Success" and they have a done a remarkable job in making these kids believe in themselves and realize that they do matter.
This school is trending in the right direction despite still facing financial and equality challenges. New principal, more volunteers, improved test scores, less discipline issues, had their largest graduation class to date and more college acceptances.
Its not how you start, but how you finish and GMCS gives ALL YOUTH the chance to finish and be great!

This school has an innovative blended curriculum public charter high school with an emphasis in both college prep and vocations. Our primary focus has been in helping troubled teens finish high school as we often are truly their last stop. These young people come to the school often broken and on average 2-3 years behind where they should be in their studies through social promotion. We fight everyday for these children and are committed to them and ending the cycle of poverty, institutions and death. It takes a village to raise a child we are showing them that the village does care and is here to uplift their dreams.

The opportunities and support that the students at GMCHS are offered far out-number those in a traditional high school. The mix of classroom and computer based learning is really tailored to the students needs. This is a special school and really a best kept secret of Charleston County.
