In the two months, my son went to the school. The bus left him at school with a group of students and a teacher told them to get off campus instead of asking where their parents were or why they were not picked up by the bus. A child brought bullets to school. A different child brought a BB gun to school. My son waited at the bus stop for over an hour in the bus never came. The school never notified me that he didnt get to school and when I told them that they just shrugged and said oh ok. Another time the bus didnt pick up my son and another kids parent dropped him off at home for school let him leave with someone I didnt know. Ive complained about all of these things and could barely get anyone to even respond. The principal said theyd get back to us and never did. The people who work at this school dont get paid enough to care. Its always somebody elses job. And if you can reach the person whose job it is, they dont care and cant help. Horrible horrible school.

The 6 grade teachers are horrible, the safety of this school is horrible, the bathrooms hygiene is bad, the cleaning staff do a horrible job, there are roaches EVERYWHERE, the students vapes and fight a lot, and the teachers seems like they dont care about the students!!! I dont recommend this school. But if you want to give your children depression then I definitely suggest this place

This school is much better than mevers. There is a lot of better people this year and much nicer and you will make a ton of friends. The teachers are also better this year and they actually care about their students. Plus the teachers are certified unlike mevers.

This school was terrible. The students were unruly and mostthe teachers either couldn't get them under control or just couldn't be bothered. Several of my former teachers said they hated working there and left the first chance they got. Bullying was rampant and the administration. often gave bullies very lenient punishment, if any at all. This is not a school for students who want to learn. For students who want to be disruptive without consequences, it's perfect.

Sometimes yes, but most of the times no.

They can only deal with whats reported therefore it's not really effective.
Posted: March 10, 2020
It was okay my first year because no one really noticed me. My second year was terrible because I was judged based off a mistake and treated a certain way and looked at differently because of that mistake. My third year was okay because I was treated better than that previous year, but at the same time I kind of felt like a black sheep and unwanted at this school. This school is only good to those that show good or bad behavior not to the camouflaged kids because it's like they don't exist.

Some teachers look or act as if they don't care and that it's just a job, but that's not all teachers because some actually care.
Posted: March 10, 2020
Only some students pick up that characteristics because not all students agree with those characteristic. To them it makes them it makes them seem uncool.

Poor learning environment. Lack of discipline, no control of students acting out. Need older, more experienced teachers. My child will be attending private school next year.

I figured I'd add an up-to-date review.
I went to this school back in the early/mid 90's, and it was a great school at that time. When my oldest child was nearing middle-school age, I read up on the reviews and was NERVOUS! I read and heard terrible things. But you know what? Our firsthand experience has been wonderful.
The security is wonderful (including the resource officer), staff is friendly, and for the most part kids seem to enjoy this school. There are probably behavioral issues like there are at any school, but my son hasn't ever witnessed anything personally.
A school is only as good as the students who attend it, so as long as we are sending well-behaved kids who are ready to learn (and not disrupt), they will have a great time at Sedgefield.

After reading I have mixed emotions about sending my daughter there but I know she can succeed in this school the school has really improved in these past years.

after reading, im kinda scared to send my daughter. Anyone have any current reviews? we are moving from Marrington Elementary which we loved. crossing fingers that this new "redo" i seen mentioned will have fixed most issues.

I do not know much about the school now..It really sounds horrible, looking at most of the reviews. I attended SMS in 1996, yes I am grown now, but back then it was a good school. It sound like people's bad kids just don't know how to act. However, we had good teachers, if students were bad, they would suffer the consequences themselves. We never had the good suffer with the bad. One thing I do wish SMS had was middle school recreation. They need to have an SMS basket ball team, baseball, football, not recreation outside the school but for the school. We have that here at middle schools in Georgia, and you know what, it keeps the children out of trouble! SMS does not have a wide range of sports or activities for their students...they never did. It was a good school, but I recall some students saying how boring it was, which forced kids to create their own fun(bad behavior). However, students were a little more controllable during that time, if a teacher called a parent, the whole class knew that student was in trouble, It was the ultimate punishment.. I don't know about now days...

It is good to hear that the school is improving, I was worried about sending my daughter there because the scores were so low. I want my daughter to have the same advantages as Marrington. Our kids deserve the very best in each teacher (teaching and kindness) as the teachers deserve the best in each child (learning to their best ability and respect). I am putting my rating low because that is what it was when my son went there. I am so praying it is better under the new principal.

Sedgefield went through lots of changes this past Summer. The lady that should have become principal years ago was finally got the job at many parents' urging. There is new staff, at least one new vice-principal who supports the existing vice principal. Together they help make rules and consequences exceedingly clear. This has greatly improved the atmosphere for learning. Further, the quality of teachers is amazing, especially in special education and the honors/gifted program. The previous problem with the PTO has been resolved. Parents wanting to volunteer are made to feel welcome. With all the changes that have been made at Sedgefield, it is only a matter of time before the test scores improve and the greatschools rating along with them.

this school may just be the worst school on the planet. they allow kids to yell and scream in the classroom and make fun of other kids in the classroom without doing anything, and when the bullied child finally says something, THAT child gets punished. like they are afraid to punish the out of control students. they write hall passes for kids to use the vending machines in the middle of class and leave the classroom often. they tell kids to do work while they are out of the classroom, but often students do not understand the work and can't ask for help because there is no teacher in the classroom. my son tells me daily that students are swearing at teachers, teachers are always crying in the hall way. in his are class the teacher had all the students do writing assignments rather than actual art after the first week of school because of the bad behavior of some. and in science, the teacher wouldn't let anyone do lab because of the behavior....but if they recieved a "special invite" they were allowed to come do it AFTER SCHOOL! parents...DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE! it is just awful.

I attended a six grade field trip today and I must say that the teachers, staff, and Principal have their work cut out for them. All I can say is there was a lot of students who attended this field trip today that should not have gone. Why? There was a great deal of playing, screaming, hitting amongst the students and attitudes. As a parent I was surprised to see how many kids did not use their better judgement and how many did show one another nor the adults any respect. I honestly believe that we need to get parents more involved again. If there is any parents interested in making a difference at this school get involved; lets start by getting back involved with PTO and communicating with the teachers. I also think a child with bad grades and bad behavior should not be allowed to attend a field trip just because their parents paid for the trip does not mine they should allowed to go. For those parents who think their child should go on a field trip because they paid should accompany their child on the trip. That way the teachers can focus on those students who came fo the learning experience.

The kids coming out of this school are academically behind other schools in the area. If you have an opportunity to move to a community outside of this school's area, do so. It's been years and the academic environment has not improved.
