There is no comparable school to USL. Their approach to education is light years ahead of other schools. USL students have a different presence about them. You see it in their maturity, the thoughtful questions they ask, their manners, and the way they interact with adults. Our daughter took Mandarin and Spanish in Intermediate School, and the academic experience helped her become more inquisitive, well-rounded, and confident.
The teachers and administrators genuinely care about the children and work closely with parents to help students reach their full potential. One example is that students who excel in math are able to take math with older students, while still spending the rest of the day with peers their own age. That kind of individualized approach is rare. The weekly field trips also gave her incredible exposure to culture, volunteering and community.
USL is a truly special school, and our family is grateful for the impact it had on our daughter. Highly recommend to others.

USL has been life changing for our family. The academics are top notch. Every class is a honors level class that identifies each students strengths and weaknesses and adapts to foster individualized growth. The personalized, nurturing environment provides encouragement that fuels curiosity and intellectual development in addition to building confidence. The teachers are genuinely good people who care about their students. It truly is a school that fosters critical thinkers and compassionate leaders. They excel at encompassing comprehensive education of the mind, body and spirit.

Our family has had a great experience at USL! We love the supportive teachers, the friendly atmosphere, and the focus on off-campus learning. The school does a great job of helping students prepare for their academic future (job shadows, earning high school credits in middle school, visiting colleges, college counseling), but also places a high value on being kind and engaged with the community (community service opportunities, mentor nights, advisory groups).

All three of my (very different) children had an incredible experience at USL. The faculty is stellar, kind and encouraging, always willing to put time and energy into helping students learn and grow. The classes are challenging, but kids are often allowed to go at their own pace. The school participates in weekly experiences outside of the classroom that further enhance the classroom learning and also are exciting, hands-on enrichment opportunities. USL devotes real time and energy to social/emotional learning, as well as civics and service. The values of USL include raising smart, kind and curious kids- something my family also values, so we felt it was a perfect match to help us nurture their minds and hearts. The world needs more USL graduates! Please, if you are considering USL, call the office and schedule a shadow day. You will be so glad you did!

My 6th grade daughter has found her home here and could not be happier and more challenged by the school culture and enviroment. The school really lives up to their "global citizen" culture with WEEKLY activities out in the community from volunteering on election day to sea kayaking, no week at USL is the same.

My son is a senior and has been at USL for 7 years. It was the best possible choice for a smart, curious, avid learner. USL challenges kids to rise to their fullest potential and think globally. The teachers are engaging, understanding and willing to go many extra miles for the students. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Currently, my son is in the dual enrollment program taking high school and College of Charleston classes concurrently. This experience has him well prepared for college. Additionally, Learning outside the classroom each Wednesday opens up a world of experiential learning and adventure. Overall, it is a great school!

We absolutely love USL for our student! The school's rigorous coursework and engaging weekly experiences outside the classroom have truly shaped well-rounded graduates. USL prepares its students not just for academic success but also for life beyond the classroom, fostering critical thinking and a deep understanding of the world they live in. Highly recommended!

I went here for a few months, but it was out of hand! The covid policy was horrendous! This school taught liberal ideologies, which I feel is bad, because schools should be balanced in the middle. This school was challenging and taught good core classes, and it was very clean.
