Three children through the system, one in second grade and two still there. They learn, they develop, they care about your kids.

We had two children in this school and had two very different experiences. The teachers were wonderful for our children, but with our second child there was a leadership change. The new school director does not have an education background. She came from an administrative role at the upper school (Porter Gaud) with no experience in early childhood education that was communicated or appears on her professional profile. It's not even clear what her background is beyond the administrative role at Porter Gaud.

So while you may experience some wonderful teachers here, if your child has any issue at all, there is no support from leadership. And I mean no support. It's "the rules are the rules" and no warmth or "let's work with you to help your child." We felt incredibly let down and honestly just so sad to be treated this way. We were nothing but respectful, and professional in the whole situation.

I've since talked to numerous parents who have experienced similar issues. I don't want to share the personal issues of my child publicly, but we have consulted numerous other educators who were shocked at how they handled it. But when you have a leader with no early childhood experience, it's bound to happen. And if you're wondering, "it just must be their kid" or "they're probably doing in the best interest of the other children," after years of paying tuition and being great ambassadors for the school, when we finally decided to pull our child because they couldn't support the child, they would not refund our deposit for the next year, even thought they had a waitlist and filled the spot. I don't know how Porter Gaud is run, but our experience at O'Quinn ended so poorly. it reflects poorly on PG.

Current family at this school and have been incredibly disappointed in the way the school has handled the mask mandate for these very young children. There are no details provided on when the mandate will be lifted and the "medical board" that they cite for rule-making is invisible and inaccessible. If your child is a 4 year old in a 3's class they don't have to wear a mask but if your child is in a 4's class they have to wear a mask. I do not understand the logic on who wears masks, who doesn't, etc.

There are zero cases at the school yet the mandate stays with zero information provided on when it will be lifted. Parents are beginning to lose their patience over the lack of transparency from school leadership. This is also the most expensive preschool in the area so you think they'd provide more comprehensive information to their parent community.

We have had nothing but good experiences here. Our two sons LOVE going to school. They jump out of the car in the morning at carpool and ask why they can't stay longer when I pick them up. The teachers and staff go above and beyond to answer questions, make the families feel comfortable and make the children feel safe and loved. I couldn't ask for a better school to start my childrens' education.

I must be living on another planet because it is NOT CHILD CENTERED, but rather drill. If this is an excellent school, I would hate to see a poor one! They drill the kids constantly and I wonder what the hurry is to get them to learn academics. Academics should be introduced in a fun way. DO NOT GO HERE!

I am so impressed with The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud. I enrolled my great niece in their 3 year old classes for the school year, and sent her to two weeks at camp before school began. There is a sense of harmony in this happy environment as you encounter it at anytime. A member of the Parent's Guild contacted me to welcome us warmly before school commenced and to answer any questions. O'Quinn's is highly organized in every way: academically, stimulating for the children at school with follow through involvement with parents at home; the school security is top notch and state of the art with a partnership with the Mt. Pleasant Police. The Director of the school can see what is happening in the classrooms with cameras, and their is a finely tuned audio system which can reach teachers wherever they are inside or outside. There is an evacuation partnership with the BI-LO across the street which has been tested and is successful. My child is very bright and I feel she is very happy with her new school. The standard of education and teacher qualifications are top-notch. There is a good selection of supplemental courses offered as an extension of the academic curriculum.
