Over the past several years, my family has had ongoing concerns regarding our experience at Faith Christian School in Summerville, SC.

Our son is currently in 5th grade, and since around 2nd grade, we have seen consistent issues that we believe are important for other families to be aware of.

One of the most concerning patterns has been the lack of consistency in teaching staff. There appears to be frequent turnover, which makes it difficult for students to build continuity in their education and relationships.

We have also been told the school offers guidance counseling support, yet throughout our time there, there has been little to no visibility, communication, or involvement from any counselor. This raises concerns about the level of academic and emotional support available to students who may need it.

Academically, communication has been a challenge. We often do not become aware of struggling or failing grades until late in the quarter or at report card time, leaving very little opportunity to correct course. At the same time, students are frequently assigned weekend homework and tested on Mondays, despite coming home unsure of the material or how to complete assignments. This leads us to question how effectively the curriculum is being taught during the school day.

Additionally, there seems to be a disconnect in priorities. While subjects like Spanish, art, and PE are emphasized, they are not core graded subjects, yet core academic understanding appears to be lacking. We have repeatedly found ourselves reteaching material at home just so our child can keep up.

Another major concern is the schools apparent reluctance to hold students back when necessary, even when parents request it. Instead, there seems to be a tendency to rely on extra credit or grade adjustments to move students forward. While this may help overall performance metrics, it does not serve the long-term academic development of the child.

Our intention is not to criticize for the sake of criticism, but to advocate for stronger communication, accountability, and a more student-focused academic approach.

We believe every child deserves:
Consistent and qualified teachers
Transparent and timely communication on academic performance
Real support systems when they are struggling
A classroom environment where learning happens during the school daynot primarily at home

This is our first experience with a private Christian school and we have had a very positive experience with Faith! The teachers communicate very well and hold the children responsible for their actions. My kids are learning about the Bible everyday and through just about every subject. The curriculum is more challenging than what they received in public school. We are very pleased!

My children were going to public school when we were fostering them. They would come home with stories of students fighting in class, talking disrespectfully to the teachers and each other, and teachers who would discuss their personal lives that did not match up with our Christian values. Once we adopted them three years ago, we enrolled them at Faith Christian School. Since then, we have seen them grow academically and spiritually. They have teachers that share our values and speak life into them. They have friends with families that share our Christian values, too. Thank you, FCS, for partnering with me to help educate my children academically and spiritually.

We enrolled our son at Faith Christian in 2020. We were looking for an experience as normal as possible going into his first year in school. Happy to say that the staff made school as normal of an experience as possible, given the circumstances. We, as parents, were very impressed by the amount of information our kindergartener learned. He was reading in no time, and by summer he was into chapter books. We feel like the curriculum is very advanced and the teachers do a wonderful job in educating.

I attended this school from K4-8th grade while my brother attended from K2 (back when they offered K2) to 8th before transferring to public school. My little sister currently attends and my son has been attending since K4. The school is very advanced academically compared to public schools. When I left, I was a year ahead and in honors in the majority of my classes. I was able to take college credits my senior year and graduate a semester early. The school has come along way since then offering more sports such as track and archery, new electives, and even offers a middle school dance now. The school may not be perfect (like any school) but I would definitely recommend this school to anyone. My son loves it. They offer a great Christian atmosphere and his teachers have all been wonderful and very attentive to his needs.

My two daughters have attended Faith for six years. My oldest daughter is graduating this year. Faith has been more like a family to us! The teachers and staff care about the students as individuals. The best decision Ive ever made was to send my girls to Faith! My heart is at ease each and every day that I send them to a place where I know they will be loved. And this year more than ever I am so thankful because they made it possible for my girls to attend school in person all year. Having a senior, that means so very much! I know my girls are prepared for both college and life because of Faith! My daughter received an excellent scholarship to CSU and I know many other seniors this year that did as well. Just as I knew it would, the tuition definitely paid off!! But most importantly Faith Christian School had a huge part in developing my daughters character. What I taught at home was also taught at school and I will be forever grateful!!

My grandson began attending due to public school closure. We have been so pleased with his academic progress and attitude towards learning, school, and Biblical principles. The academic program is rigorous and I have found the teachers to be professional and loving towards their students. Class sizes are small, which allows individualized attention. I would highly recommend this school for anyone looking for faith-based education.

Very poor!
Teachers have favorites, Youre Ive seen several children be judged unfairly and teachers are not held accountable for their actions. Discipline issues are handled By what the teacher and or principal feels Like the consequence or disciplinary action should be. The principal should be held accountable as well, but there is no one to do so.

Material taught at this school is 2 years behind S.C. public schools.
When my child transferred out of this school into public school, she tested 2 years behind her S.C. school grade level curriculum in her middle school maths, and 1 year behind on everything else. My child was even in the National Jr. Honor Society at Faith. She had to play catch up in public school, and she is still struggling. This was humiliating for her to be behind in her grade amongst her peers. This was very frustrating as a parent bc I paid a lot of money for her to receive a Christian quality education.
I hope the Middle School has replaced their math curriculum, and reviewed the other subjects being taught as well.

There is a disproportionate ability of the middle school math students who have need to be offered a pre algebra class instead of putting them in a class with Algebra 1 honors students in the 7th grade bc no college prep classes exist in Middle School. There also needs to be an 8th grade Algebra 2 class (NOT honors).
You end up having students still at an introductory Algebra level having to learn beside Honors 1 Algebra students in 7th grade as well as Algebra 1 students in 8th grade trying to learn alongside Honors Algebra 2 students bc again all students are made to be in Honors classes and the school will not accommodate college prep level students. As a result of this, the Algebra teacher spend countless hours trying to teach and re- teach basic concepts to the students who are not Honors level. While this precious instruction time is spent reteaching a majority of students, your Honors Algebra 2 8th grader is falling further behind their public school grade level peers.
This not only happens in the maths at the middle school, it happens with the sciences as well, and it is unfair bc your student is not prepared adequately for High School.
Math/Science teacher blames students for bad grades in her class when in reality it is a lack of accommodating classes being offered at Faith.
Also, math/science teachers in the middle school fail to offer alternative approaches and instruction to help the students learn maths/ sciences, but instead she reads straight out of the book and workbook which is not effective and as a result students get further behind.
Lastly, Middle School Math/ Science teachers have lost my childs homework on more than one occasion and ended up telling my student that she was lying, just to find my students homework the next day in her stack of papers
The 2nd time this occurred where she lost my childs homework
, she forced my child to take a zero which brought her grade from a C to an F. My child was told again that she was a liar regarding homework.When this issue was addressed with the principal, he did nothing to help resolve the situation.
And my student ended up failing the class. Because only four grades are given out every nine weeks this zero brought my childs grade down from a high C to an F.
Unacceptable!
