My child had a horrible experience there - they claim to be a school for gifted kids, but yet don't know how to differentiate and provide higher level instruction when necessary. The administration there is awful; the most recent principal didn't even last 1 school year, and the assistant principal that stepped in as interim has no idea what he is doing. If your child is truly gifted, this isn't the place for them!

This school sucks. Sure, the people are great and LEAP days are fun, but the teachers and administration are horrible. - A student that actually attends here.

Being the only Gifted and Talented school in the area, your options are limited, but Palmetto Scholars Academy lives up to the standard. With a small school size and teachers who are not only experts in their field, but have been with the school for years, it is no wonder they win so many STEM awards and attract a diverse, intellectual group of students. We have been very pleased with the school and the complaints we have a few and small with one exception. Because of how the charter system is structured in South Carolina, entry is by lottery and some kids who probably should not be attending a Gifted and Talented school do get in, but the staff and teachers do their best to try to get them up to par. That being said, I wish they were a little more discouraging to parents who know good and well their child should not be attending an advanced school like PSA. It would be better for that child to get Bs-Cs elsewhere than Ds-Fs here. It is a drag on the school, the other students, and has negative consequences for everyone.

PSA is top-ranked charter school that was established specifically to address the needs of gifted and talented teenagers. It has developed a curriculum and culture that borrows from best practices, research, and results from around the world. The curriculum is not easy but it is interesting and fun. The use of the British "house" system is an aspect of its special culture and is very popular with the students and teachers. We have one student enrolled here and hope to have another sibling there when she comes of age.
