This school is extremely nasty. There are roaches everywhere. The custodians and janitors don’t even do a good job at cleaning the bathrooms. The staff locks most of the bathrooms which means you’ll have to go to another bathroom in a whole different hall. They stopped giving paper towels and brought in hand dryers that nobody asked for and it’s dirtier than using paper towels but they bought a brand new sink nobody asked for. The lunches are not even good and they made the cafeteria the only place where they have different menu items than the lines around the school. In the cafeteria they made it only one line which you’d have to wait in and it has so many students. I don’t see the point in having one line for the whole cafeteria where people cut you. You have to send a smartpass (electronic pass) to be able to go to the bathroom which is stupid because the district pays for that when they could spend zero dollars just having students make a paper pass. The teachers aren’t even looking at their computers half of the time so you’re going to have to ask them anyways. Also for the smartpass one student is allowed out at a time which is also stupid. This school also constantly stinks and it’s way too overcrowded.

This is my first year at Summerville high and I can say without a dought in my mind that this school is awful. There are so many problems when you start looking closer for example, in my pe class for the first 30 minutes of that class we just sit there and it is called our reflection time but the pe teachers just use it as a time so they can talk about random stuff I here them they are talking about food and other none important stuff that I did not sign up for. most of their equipment is either broken or just mangled, for example a week ago when I was grabbing a badminton racket mine was bent out of shape so bad it looked like a potato chip and the school says that they are going to borrow more from another school. and maybe they would not have to do that if they didn't spend so much on the football team. I mean every half year they get a new redone field and new jerseys and pads if even one of them breaks. and they just added the 600 building a couple years ago witch added a bunch of new classes thankfully but they cut anyway that they can for example the food it is just not good the food I scold sometimes or the pizza is just rubber and cheese and I don't even know if it is cheese. and some of the teachers don't even try or they treat us like kinder gardeners and I would love to learn as much as I can there is so much stuff I would like to learn but the school does not offer any of it and the school I always trying to take our money, everyday they have snacks you can buy for like 200% the price. and the prom that is coming up it cost 50$ to join that is so unreasonable and it is most likely going to the football team.

I don’t recommend that school. It is the worse ever see. Unfortunately 2 of my kids graduated from that high school.

I am a current student at Summerville high school I hate it here so much this a terrible school the teachers have clear favorites and if your not one of them tgen they always yell at you the admin is even worse from favorites to trying to expel kids for wrong things because they don’t like you pledo not send your kids here it is a terrible school I have a teacher who yells at us every day about how we don’t want to be here and how we don’t learn anything, but then he continues to not tell us what we’re supposed to be doing in class and goes and sits at his table and is on his phone every single class and every time the phone rings he’s telling us that someone’s going to ISS. He calls out the students name and says when they tell you, you have ISS just go there so I don’t have to deal with this. This school is terrible. Please do not send your kid here. I have to fight myself every day to even get out of bed to come here. Bullying is a huge problem. Admin has favorites. Teachers have favorites. If you don’t play a sport then they really just don’t like you. Unless they you make them money they do not care about you and you are not their problem. And the principal brings her dog to school and then has other teachers watch it when she can’t some kids have serious allergies In admin, try to put me up for expulsion. Because she kicked me out of class when all I did was sit up in my chair and then wouldn’t tell me why she was kicking out of class. She then claimed that I was walking down the hallway, screaming and yelling and told me I couldn’t contact my mother the admin always gives up on a singular kid when they’re trying to get them in trouble I’ve had one of the admin literally spit in my face because he was so close to me and yell yelling at me do not send your kid here they do not feature kids and they will graduate not knowing a singular thing.DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE

THe school here has no real value towards education, there primary focus is on athletics. I have only attended the school for one year, and the expiriences I have had here are actually the reason that I will be dropping out and pursuing my GED. The school administration doesn't know how to do their job, most teachers are awful, there are a few great teachers, but a mjority of the body is absolutely horrendous and unqualified in the subject that they teach. There are almost 3000 students at this school, FAR too many for any school to ever have that isn't at the collegete level. Overall this school is absolutely awful and I do not recommend that any parent should enroll their children here.

I came here to get an education towards information that would be helpful for my career. Instead I learned how to do worksheets, read textbooks, and continuously prepare myself for quizzes and tests that prepare me for more tests known as exams. Since when is a student's test score more important than that student's future.

I am a student in the 11th grade now at Summerville High School. I have been attending here since my freshman year. This school is full of unlovely surprises. A show every single day of students battling it out is not how you make a high school go noticed. Students respect towards teachers is completely gross and needs to be fixed. In result of students harsh attitudes by students, teachers get snippy also with them which in some cases evolves into something worse. Bullying is a problem and they try, but do not succeed in their plans or whatever to stop it. People don't listen and will continue doing what they do. This school is absolutely atrocious. Roaches and Mold are almost around every corner and it is absolutely disgusting. They are almost as big as computer mice! Academic programs are probably the only good thing about this school. Sports are probably the most focused thing too. Football is the only sport that ever gets the most attention and it is very annoying. This year the district recently issued a new schedule which means our lunches are later in the day around 1:00. Some teachers don't even allow students to eat in their classrooms! The entire school has lunch at the exact same time too by the way, which means 3,100 students are let loose for an hour. It is so unorganized and, just not an ideal place to go. Wish I could go to Cane bay or Ashley ridge. At least they care about their appearance.

I wouldn't attend Summerville High School even if someone paid me a million dollars. I was bullied and I went to guidance and my councilor told me to ignore it after I told him how I was pushed , called names and harassed through out the day. The staff doesn't care about their students. They are just as ignorant as the students themselves. Parents don't sent your children here.

Summerville high school should receive a below zero rating. I am a senior at the high school and being new I regret begging my parents to send me here. The school has rats, cockroaches, mold, etc. Overall its gross. Now the lack of respect for students and teachers is unnerving. Students have no respect for the teachers and in turn the teachers have no respect for the students. The principal is so invested in making sure kids have on dress code and are at school on time that he is willing to have students spend the entire day is ISS just because their shirt doesn't cover their butt if they wear leggings. It is RIDICULOUS. You are taking a child away from their learning in order to make sure they wear the right pants to school. This school needs a reality check because it is not worth the time of anyone.

I am a senior at Summerville high and this school's relationship with the students has completely deteriorated, fights are happening almost every day, and on Tuesday morning all the students and staff had to be evacuated for the second time this year because of a gas leak, DO NOT send your kids here, because obviously safety isn't this districts number one priority

Just read a ninth grader was, reprimanded, suspended and subsequently had the cops called on him because he wrote about shooting a dinosaur, as part of an assignment. Now that the thought police are in action at our public schools, how do we teach creative and independent thinking, if teachers are focused on controlling thought? Ridiculous what has become of the public school system. Just look at the petty posts by a teacher on this thread. Or our standings around the globe.

This school is a joke and the principal should be fired for calling the police on a 9th grader for writing a fiction story on guns. Are you kidding me! I would never in a million years send my school this bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a current student about to graduate, the good qualties are the honors and AP classes, however the cp classes have been terrible. There is a major lack of control and dont l learn anything over the course of the year. The faculty has both amazing teachers and horrible teachers. I've had to go back to my 9th and 10th grade teacher when current teachers are not helpful. My guidance counselor however has been amazing and very supportive 10-12th grade. The last thing is the school has way too many students and not enough control.

I had 3 sons go through this school and although all graduated the fighting, bullying, lack of motivated teachers (a few i doubt were no more than full time subs), and overcrowding was a nightmare. School bus beatdowns happened frequently also which I witnessed personally while driving behind a school bus. The school is just too plain small for a student body of over 3,000 students and they have GOT TO HIRE MORE QUALIFIED GUIDANCE COUNSELORS!! There just are not enough for the amount of student per ratio. THE TOWN KEEPS ALLOWING MORE & MORE SUBDIVISIONS TO BE BUILT WITH ZERO THOUGHT AS TO WHERE THESE KIDS ARE GOING TO BE SCHOOLED!! Its gone BEYOND RIDICULOUS!! AGAIN!! BUILD MORE HIGH SCHOOLS!! ASHLEY RIDGE WAS NO MORE THAN A BAND AID!! That school is minuscule to SHS!!! Do SOMETHING WITH ALL THE TAX MONEY THOSE NEW HOUSES ARE BRINGING IN AND BUILD MORE HIGH SCHOOLS!! WHERE IS ALL THE TAX MONEY GOING IN THIS TOWN??!!

Summerville high school is a joke! While some can its great, I've seen otherwise! Between 2-4 fights on a regular basis with some starting as early as breakfast! Kids disrespecting staff, staff kissing up to students whose parents have money, students being subjected to endless racial slurs and taunts, bullying and not so kind administators to both parents and students! I heard how great this school is, but I got a first hand account that everything that glitters is not gold!

This schools administration does not care about the teachers, much less the students. The assistant principal Lynne' Reeves Assistant Principal, Master Scheduler punishes the teachers for wanting to be more influential to the kids. She personally makes sure the classroom is a non learning environment. What a disgrace. She just wants to push non educated students out because they are "insignificant". Horrible.

This school is far too large to be effective in teaching our children. At 3100+ enrolled students the school becomes a small city when in session. There are multiple full time police officers assigned to the school. Due to it's location the school often goes on lockdown when violent crime is reported in the adjacent neighborhood. I do have to say, however, that the new principal seems to be very effective and has a great background. Our son really enjoyed his time there and had many great friends. Academically the schools offerings are diverse and challenging. DD2 needs to keep up with it's booming population and build another high school.

I received an excellent education at Summerville High. The Honors and AP courses I took were challenging, and I learned a great deal. I scored well on the SAT and ACT and graduated from with honors from Furman University. My teachers at SHS genuinely cared about their students' well-being and success. I remember fondly my time at Summerville and know each student can receive a high-quality education there if they put forth their best effort.

My son excelled at SHS. Their math, science, and counseling staff include military veterans who, along with JROTC, are helping my son make successful applications for the Naval and Air Force Academies. My daughter had a very negative experience her freshman year. Teachers assigned to freshman academy acted more like college buddies than professionals, then struggled to contain personal feelings when they later tried to regain authority. Overall, student population is too large for the facility. Ashley Ridge should be considered when buying. The new principal (2011) is outstanding, renewing professionalism in staff dress code, staff conduct, and student leadership.

The academics at SHS if mobilized would be substantial. Our children would have purpose,vision,responsibility,opportunity and be successful members of our communities or other places they live. Our elementary schools put so much time ,energy,compassion,devotion,love and an awesome foundation of education into our children.The communicaton between parent and teacher gets lost in middle school. At SHS you have to make sure your chidren are taking the proper courses for thier desired education goals.SHS does have many chidren left by the wayside.As parents its our responsibility to instill love,morals values,beliefs,responsibiliyt, accountability,experience and goals in thier lives.Hopefully no more students with high academic achievements and community involvement won't be left behind. I feel The PTA should not worry so much about fundrasing, and more about communication from teacher to parent. and to help diminish SHS high drop out rate.

The school itself was an awesome experience for myself. The school is huge but its not big enough for the overpopulation of students attending. Coming from someone who has moved around their entire life i feel like Summerville High offered the most opportunities for young adults. The cons are that with it being so BIG and with 3500 + students there is not enough supervision. I had never gotten into any trouble in my life until i graduated to a freshman and summerville high made it so easy to mess up. But overall i loved the school.!
