Our experience at this school has been overwhelming positive. The school is far from perfect, but the administrative staff and teachers and doing their best, particularly with the influx of students coming into the school. There’s definitely a need for more experienced teachers and additional classroom’s however.

Nexton Elementary is a fantastic elementary school with dedicated teachers, a strong curriculum, and a welcoming environment. The staff truly cares about the students, and it’s clear they go above and beyond to provide a great education. Unfortunately, some of the negative reviews online are laughable—mostly written by parents who can’t even spell basic words. It’s no surprise their kids struggled; education starts at home. If you want a school that actually prioritizes learning and growth, this is the place to be.

Administration is transparent and caring. We have had a great experience so far with the school for our child.

This school is horrible they don't have any patience with beginners( kindergartens). They call me every day , nowing that my child have special needs. They made sure my child felt uncomfortable, for I could pull him out the school.
Every day they request that I drugged my child. An over a misunderstanding they called dss. I don't recommend this school to no nobody not even to roaches! If your child is NOT PERFECT DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO NEXTON!!!!!

SORRY TO SAY THIS BUT IF YOU ARE AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILY I DONT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL. THEY WANT IT TO BE A ALL WHITE SCHOOL!! THEY WILL MISTREAT YOUR CHILD, JUST BECAUSE THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN!!

My family moved here from out of state a couple years ago, and we didn’t know anyone, anywhere. I was nervous about my only child starting school in a brand new place, with no family or support system or anything (outside parents), but at the end of his first school year, I can honestly say that I consider myself lucky to have sent my son to NES. He’s had a wonderful experience, and his teacher has been absolutely amazing and communicative with both my wife and myself all year. The only reason I didn’t give a score of 5 stars is because the few times I’ve had to go into the school, I’ve personally never felt welcomed or like the administration wanted parents to see the inside of the school unless they absolutely had to (and only begrudgingly then, too). Having said all that, though, I will say that overall, my experience here has been very positive, and I know my son loves Nexton.

So I think this place is in pretty good shape and I like this place. But one of the custodians yelled at my child for something she didn't do.The teachers are nice but when theri was a parent conference I heard one of the teachers yelling at one of her students. Then in the hallway the principal was escorting a kid to the front office to be suspended for bringing a smoke bomb to school in an empty bullet shell. This is also a reason why we are thinking of changing schools so my k4 kid she found a cigarette in the toilet. So she started to play with it and the teachers didn't even notice then she brought it home to me. But I didn't want to make a big thing out of it so I didn't say anything. They also don't have anything really fun to do in class so it's kind of boring for my child. Overall this is just not the school for us and they only really except perfect children and there aren't any out there but this is someone elses problem.But we changed schools and we are doing the best we have ever been!

Beautiful building. Great location. Some great teachers. But that's it. This school wants perfect children to grace their halls. If you have an imperfect child with challenges or special needs, run as far away as you can. This is not the school for you.

My child's very first day, the school lost them. Ended up sending them somewhere else. I get to the office to get my child and they had the nerve to tell me my child never left school grounds. But because my child has special needs, they have a GPS tracker so I knew exactly where my child had been and I called them out on it. Once I finally had my crying, petrified child back, no apologies or cares were given. That was just the beginning. The following years would find a few wonderful, understanding teachers, but a lot of nasty teachers. Daily phone calls that my child wouldn't stop crying and calling them a problem child. Being told they didn't know what was wrong with my child, but they couldn't handle my child and we needed to find another school. Never offered or discussed evaluations. Just leave. We get diagnoses and staff either ignores or claims they don't exist or tells my child they could control their disability if they wanted to. I've struggled for years to get an IEP or 504, then struggled to get it followed correctly. Lots of "What do you want us to do about it?" I've personally listened to a teacher yelling at a crying child to stop crying while the child repeatedly said, "I'm scared!" Instead of calming or problem solving, just yell at them. This school cannot properly handle children with special needs. There are a handful of amazing teachers that can, but more teachers that can't.

My child is frequently bullied. And always gets in trouble for being bullied (shoved into a glass partition, custodian yells at my child and makes them spend lunch cleaning windows) or gets in trouble for standing up for themselves (writing sentences at recess for standing up for themselves while being verbally bullied because it was seen as arguing). And that's if the teacher isn't already blaming and punishing my child for things they never did in the first place and it was proven they didn't. Group punishments are huge here. Punish the class for the actions of a few students.

Zero accountability. Limited resources (though it's slowly getting better under the new principal). Little compassion. Very boring school with very few activities. Last second notification, if any notification. No organization.

This school is fabulous. my son is in third grade and transferred from out of state. Everyone from the front desk to the administration to the teachers are all so nice and helpful. My son went from struggling in school to being on the honor roll at Nexton. I am there a few times a week to bring my younger child for services as well and I am extremely pleased. The school is in a very safe area, it's new and always looks spotless. It's very state of the art with big screen televisions and every child is issued a chrome book / lap top. I am more than happy with our experience this year and grateful for the staff for making our move and transition easy for my son.

This school is awesome, teachers are attentive and involves with the child development. I have 3 children going here for 2nd year now. My oldest attended k5 and now first grade here. My twins attended k4 and now k5 here.

My daughter loves this school! Would've given it 5 stars, but as its their first year open they seem to be still ironing out some things. Communication between the faculty and parents is great for the most part. We love the Class Dojo system, and the ability for the kids to earn blast bucks by making positive choices! My little girl loves using her iPad in class and is excited about getting a chrome book next year.

**Pros~
-state of the art facility
-technologically sound environment
-fun extracurriculars
-community involvement
-most communication is prompt & courteous.

**Cons~
- bus issues/lack of drivers (district wide problem)
-not enough "fun days/special events" although I'm sure there will be more in the coming years
-lunch & recess are too short (again, this isn't specific to NES)
