My son transitioned from another school system to Woodside for his freshman year and really enjoys it. I have found most of his teachers and guidance counselor to be responsive and supportive. I was worried because you hear so many negative things about NNPS, but so far Woodside has exceeded my expectations.

Overall it's a good school, there were and still are so times when I get stressed over the work but it's ok because I can always count on my teachers for help. Also there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with the school.

I am a student and I've just started this school and I'm already being bullied!!! The sad thing is it being done by people I don't know, its always this group of boys in B house in the middle of the stairs. Also last year we had an unfortunate passing of a young girl who took her life probably because of the same people bullying her!!

I really hate this school so far, I'm a freshman and I don't know a lot of people and a lot of things but I do know that this school is just crawling with bullies!!! A person can't even go a day without being picked on especially quiet people like me. Next year I'm hoping to be switching to another, I just can't deal with this anymore. This school is like the first school I've ever been bullied in my whole life time!!!

The school has zero parent involvement and the teachers do not care about the success of the student. My child is a junior here and has not had a teacher yet that has cared. And my child does not have any behavior issues and is an honor roll student. He is not challenged to be prepared for college or encouraged to. The teachers simply just want to score high on the SOLS and forget what is most important; the student. We just can't wait for his time at this school to be over because he his not happy there and neither are we. We can only hope that he gets into a decent college after graduation from the school.

This is my third year at Woodside and I have to say it's been a interesting time here. I think coming in at the start of freshman year was very good because everyone was looking for new friends at the same time, so it was easy to find people to be friends with. I will say that this is the best school in the city, but if you are used to very good schools, the transition will be a little rough. I think the principal does a good job and it is possible to get a high quality education at this school if you will put in the effort, as with any school or college. It is a crowded school, but I've never had a class bigger than 30 students, and it is very uncommon to have a class that big. Overall it's a good school and I've been pleased with what I've seen so far.

I have found it a struggle to get by at this school. I'm an army kid and I have been to a 3 other high schools and this one is the worst. I moved in the middle of the year and I felt alienated. My teachers did not get me up to date with what I needed to learn, leading to my failure in a class and low grades in others. And half the teachers are just not good at teaching. The student body I mainly made up of kids that really don't care. Some don't care about their grades, leading to classroom distraction, and others just do not care about their actions, leading to fights and conflict. I don't go a day were I am not nudged our of the way in the hall or given a dirty look by a random passerby. I was put into the drama program and the program is very good. The teachers are loving and supportive and most of the students in the drama department are great to be around.

Woodside is amazing! It isn't just a school, its a place a grow and perform. There is so much diversity! I've never seen so many different children get along so well. And we had over 12% more than any other Newport News school in reaching our 3.0 G.P.A. quota. Woodside is the best school ever! I couldn't of ask for a better school!
