My daughter is graduating from WHES this year, and she truly loves her school. She has loved her teachers, and I know she will miss WHES very much.

I was involved with the PTA for many years, and during that time I saw how many families are deeply dedicated to enriching the school community. Parents give their time and energy to support the staff, organize events, and help create meaningful after-school opportunities for students.

Mrs. Alston is a dedicated principal with a clear vision for improving all aspects of the school, always striving for a better school environment while navigating the many challenges that come with leading an RPS school. The teachers are kind, compassionate, and consistently go above and beyond for their students. I can't say enough about them (and the rest of the staff!).

We have especially appreciated the special after-school programs, including step, theater, Girls on the Run, cooking, and many other creative opportunities beyond the school day. It’s been wonderful to see both teachers and parents help make these experiences possible.

We will miss this community very much. For any families considering WHES, I would encourage you to reach out, take a tour, and talk with current families if you can. One of the things we feel most grateful for is that our daughter has grown up in a diverse environment that reflects the real world and has helped her learn inclusivity, navigate differences, and build the tools to handle conflict with empathy and confidence.

Like many public schools, RPS faces real challenges, including budget limitations, testing pressures, and the wide range of social and emotional needs students bring with them. Even so, WHES does an incredible job of meeting students where they are, encouraging their growth, and recognizing their individual strengths.

It really does take a village, and WHES is a strong one.

We have had a wonderful experience at WHES. My child is getting ready to finish his kindergarten year and is thriving, reading beyond a first grade level. The teachers and staff are warm and welcoming and have created a nurturing environment for learning and growing. In addition, the after school enrichment options are endless with clubs ranging from cooking and lego robotics to outdoor arts and tennis. We couldn't be happier with this his school and look forward to seeing what the next school year brings!

This is a great school. We have two kids who attend WHES and love it. Both were reading well in kindergarten. They love their classmates and the after school program at the community center. The ratings on this website do not truly represent this school's success and role as a pillar in the community. There are also so many school clubs and extracurricular opportunities! Lego robotics club, cooking club, step team, chess club, book club, band, orchestra, guitar club - and that's not even the complete list. Give this school a chance, you will not regret it.

For kindergarten there was basically one assignment per week that was easy enough for the kids to complete. Homework at this level was also considered optional so the kids don’t get overwhelmed.

They follow the seven healthy habits of highly effective people. The teaching of this is good and there is lots of signs in the school to remind children.

Principal Koubi has been responsive and immediately looked any concerns we brought to her and they were effectively addressed.

My kid let me know some others were saying unkind things about another student. The teacher was already aware (when I mentioned it) and addressed the situation. After that it wasn’t an issue.

Great! Friendly and welcoming teachers AND students. Any concerns immediately addressed. My kid progressed with reading substantially.

Our child just started kindergarten at Westover Hills this year. Given the school's history poor rating, I was nervous about the school. After meeting staff and administrators, my mind was eased. Principal El Koubi's vision and plan for the school is really stellar and ambitious. She implemented a new math curriculum. She expects a lot from her staff and holds them accountable. The teachers and staff are wonderful and extremely support to the students. I couldn't be more pleased with our family's experience there. My son is thriving.

I don’t have experience in this area so I can’t speak to it

No tolerance for bullying at Westover. Kids are taught to synergize and think win-win

Posted: July 11, 2018

I have been happy with the homework assignment my rising 2nd grader has had which is to read 20 minutes every night. Occasionally she has had a math assignment and a science fair project.

My daughter has had 2 wonderful teachers at Westover and she is excelling in all areas but especially reading.

We are a Leader In Me school so we teach and practice the 7 Habits daily. Our kids are leaders and we work to strengthen these values.

Our principal just retired but she was an effective leader. I’m excited for our new principal as she starts her leadership at Westover. Come meet her!

I give our experience as excellent. Our daughter wants to be at school the moment the doors open and doesn’t want us to pick her up until she’s played outside at after school care. She has made friends, excels in class, great teachers etc.

I've been very pleased with this school as a whole. Aside from the very involved teachers and staff, the PTA is very active and really tries to create a sense of community around the school. I hope people can look beyond standardized test scores and realize what a gem this place is.

Homework assigned is appropriate for students' age and grade level.

Values are very important at this school. They use the leader in me process to create a strong ethics and self empowerment foundation for their students.

My son is completing his 4th year at this school and each teacher he has had has been wonderful. They have always been responsive and interested in my child getting ahead. They recognized when he was not being challenged and recommended him for the gifted and talented program.
