The teachers at Grafton Highschool are bad. To them it’s just a job and nothing else. The teachers are not good at teaching. I came from a school where teachers taught very well and provided help to kids then when I moved here I see how poorly these teachers value their job and take the responsibility that their job requires. However some teachers if you get lucky are good. Though other than that the teachers in general are bad and not reaching the standards of a teacher.

Both my kids attend currently. The staff is communicative, the administration seems to really care. The schools is safe and well maintained.

Awful. My kid was thriving before this place. They are so clickish and bratty here. These kids act like they live in the Hamptons for NO reason. Two cheerleaders (the ones that are part of representing the school) actually made a bullying video about kids in the school. The media got their hands on it and wanted to address it and a few of us parents turned to opportunity down. Big mistake because the place needs to be made a example out of. This is Yorktown, not the Hamptons. We have reported autistic kids being pushed into lockers, and mistreated and NOTHING ever came from it. I feel bad for some of the teachers because they have NO control. Kids on their cell phone, kids sleeping, kids making out in the hall, and kids being downright disgusting. It is so political and they do not want York county to be under the spotlight. Our kids now attend private school after paying all this money to live in this county for the schools. Some of these kids wear collars with leashes. I was FLOORED when I saw a video. Crazy, crazy things being tolerated. "Homosexuals" they claim, call you a homophobe. Academics....a JOKE. Teaching just with SOL worksheets instead of a book. No lockers can be used still, love the computer system still. Kids get pushed through and handed retakes. Kids are set up so badly for the future. Work ethic not taught as far as academically. The list goes on and on. Just do yourself a favor and find another route. If you are an outsider coming in due to relocation or military, your kid in sports will suffer because Jack knows Billy's parents and they will be pitching no matter the skill. Wish I was lying. This is considered to be one of the best schools in the area. The pros of this school are wonderful, knowledgeable and caring teachers. The biggest con for this school are the counselors: do not count on them to actually help or advise your child, or to give you and your child the correct information early enough, in the freshman year, to plan their path and help them get sufficiently ready for college applications. To be blunt, counselors are useless at this school. Do all the leg work and ask questions, ask other parents, because counselors will not help you in any meaningful way.

GHS has been a WONDERFUL experience for our family! Being military, finding a good school to fit our daughter’s needs is priority. She has special needs and the kids and faculty have been amazing with her. She is a part of the GHS amazing band program and loves it. The administration and teachers truly go above and beyond to help and encourage the kids!

My daughter is in 10 grade at this school, she is happy than ever to come to this school. The staff are doing a great job, sharing their knowledge with our kids!
I totally recommend it to any family who's moving and looking for great schools.

3 kids have had very positive experiences with college prep and activities. Band program is top notch in state and VERY inclusive. Sports teams are place classroom/overall success first and are still very successful.

Train your child in MMA or boxing to withstand the rampant bullying at this school. It is widely accepted by the staff who handle these situations by ignoring them until the victim fights back. Then they blame the victim. Academics are good if your child would do well in prison.

I have 3 children attending Grafton currently. The teachers, students and administrators demonstrate pride in academia, the arts and athletics. The experience we have had has been very positive so far.

Being a Military family, the biggest worry is finding the right schools. My oldest son started in ninth grade and will get to graduate here. I have been VERY pleased and wish my other 3 kids could also graduate here. I am so greatly thankful I got to experience the opportunity to share this review. Every school is not gonna be perfect, but if you know you can send your kids to school without worrying they are gonna be harmed in any way then you are quiet blessed! They offer many opportunities for your kids future as well. Your child has to want it!

This is the 3rd high school my senior has attended and the 2nd for my sophomore. We are very happy with the education my kids are receiving and the extra curricular activities the school has to offer. The teachers go out their way to make sure that my kids get what they need from their lessons. The teachers encourage my students to work harder then they ever have before.

I understand that allowing only seniors to drive and park at GHS is a problem. My adult children graduated from GHS in 2001 and 2005. I didn't like the fact that kids who were not seniors but were involved in the program that allowed them to work half and day and attend school half a day. I am hoping they have not allowed these students to continue taking up parking places. There were exceptions to the rules when my kids attended which I thought was wrong. With that being said, I do understand that they only have a limited number of parking spaces. I did find it quite upsetting when our son went to Virginia Tech and we didn't have to pay $ 100.00 for a parking place. It was only about $ 25.00. I think $ 100.00 is way too much unless they have fixed that parking lot some.

Being a new Grafton family we are often impressed with the positive attitudes and quick problem solving of the staff. The students have been welcoming also. My only issue is that only Seniors are permitted to park at school. There are exceptions but the rule is only Seniors. Having a student to has after school activities (that are often not finished when planned) who also has full access to a car can cause scheduling issues for our family.

I have had 2 children in this school and have been happy with the school. I think communication could be a l little better, especially from the Guidance dept. I do think the parents need to hold their children more accountable then the teachers and not expect them to be spoon fed which seems to be more the way in the US then Europe sadly..

It is no longer the excellent school it was in the past. Non communicative teachers, flippant attitudes, political through and through. The morale is horrible with the staff, they pick and choose who they are "nice" to and treat most students like numbers, unless you are amongst the "chosen" few. YC teachers are so angry about not getting raises that it shines through, nobody cares anymore. The few that do are amazing to remain and hang on in such a poor environment. Many seem like they are just "doing time" there. So sad, it used to be a great place. :( They seem to focus on how things "look" instead of making things happen and improving. Not holding staff accountable for being lazy and not doing their job well is a major problem. The Students are "allowed" to treat others unkindly, the students that are kind are overlooked unless they are "politically special" and in the "know". There is so much wasted education time with teachers who do not care. The teachers that do care are struggling. I will say the guidance counselors are amazing! Friendly and helpful. Awesome music program! Good sports teams,some really awful coaches, chosen politically, not for their ability

My son graduated from Grafton last year. It is not a school that I recommend to anyone the does not have an over achiever unless you can buy their way to success here. It is very cliquish. Your children will have a difficult time at this school unless they excel at sports, or scholastically. This is a school that is concerned with prestige. If you cannot add to that, you are a hinderance in their eyes. Choose this school based on what your child can add or go elsewhere.

After attending Grafton for all four years, I would have to say overall that my experience was negative. The school places too much emphasis on athletics, and students involved in the arts or other types of activities rarely receive recognition. Being in the band and having several excellent teachers throughout the years was the only parts of Grafton I have fond memories of. Most of these teachers have moved away now. Over time, the staff has become more apathetic and less caring.

I'm a freshman at Grafton and I have to agree there are alot of stuck up people but if you get involved in activities that you like, you will find true friends here. Majority of the stuck up people are the "popular" groups but they don't amount to much of the school. the rest of the school is very nice. But you have to be tough to make it through this school.

i was very disappointed in GHS after good experiences with GBES and GMS. All of a sudden teachers dont communicate with parents, dont respond to phone calls or problems. My child has a problem with a 10th grade English teacher and we were pretty much ignored on it. Staff just seems not to care much.

I have 2 children in Grafton High. I have to say most of the teachers are wonderful but we have experienced several that going the extra mile was not what they signed on for. One of my children is continually made fun of, put down, etc. Staff has no problem promoting "no bullying" but does not intervene themselves. "Look the other way" seems to be the policy. Students who don't have everything going for them need to be helped up instead of raising those at the top even higher. Grafton needs to pay more attention to those in the gutter - they are not a lost cause and want success and acceptance even more than those it has been handed to gift wrapped. It is sad that many teachers at Grafton "just want to put in their 8 and go home". Check out the staff parking lot 20 minutes after school is out.......no problem finding many open spaces.

I am a student currently enrolled in Grafton. I believe the teachers are amazing, except some teachers if you need help, you have to work hard to get help. The Athletics are superb. Various extracurricular activities. Also, a huge selection of courses, the largest in the district. Furthermore, I have heard comments from students from Grafton, Tabb, and York; actually one of my friends recently transferred from Tabb. My friend said that the teachers and the choice of courses at Grafton are way better. I'm a army brat and came to Grafton the second semester of last year. I have read some of the reviews and I understand how some people get the impression of people being "stuck up" or not so friendly; however, the majority of Grafton of are truly friendly. I may have not made friends the first day, but if you get involved with clubs/sports and find true friends you will really enjoy high school.
