We are a military family and my son has been going to MES for 2 years now. The teachers are kind, caring, and supportive. They have teachers ready to help students with additional needs (mine struggles with reading so a para helps him). MES also offers a plethora of military family activities through the school year.

Im convinced that anyone that says this school is good, doesnt have any experience with other elementary schools. Absolutely ridiculous expectations. Not a positive learning environment. Title 1 school yet where is the money going?? Not the school. Its run down and doesnt even have smart boards. Teachers are mean. My daughter said the lunch ladies are the only teachers that are nice to her. Could you imagine? Really unhappy and hate sending my daughter here.

This school was great, but my only complaint was that when I went there, the fourth-grade and music classrooms were trailers!

My experience has been all I could have ever hoped for! My kids had huge transition from out of state and the first school we were in was not a good fit. My 4th grader had his lowest grades ever and was struggling. After starting at Magruder it was a complete turn around. He loved school again. He had straight As again. Magruder is an incredible, nurturing environment for students.

The teachers bully and though we had little issues with bullies when we did for my daughter they just told her to ignore them.
Posted: March 20, 2017
def. not they have a phycologist who apparently doesn't agree with anyone outside the school and thinks she's right. So there for the kids get little to no help

My son hated it here and was suspended about once a week in 1st grade
Posted: March 20, 2017
nope they let my son fail and my daughter was in advanced going in most of it while here and finished losing it in Queens lake middle
Posted: March 20, 2017
They hand out homework, have the kids put it in the agenda and then hope for the best. If it's not turned in.. oh well.

This school sucks especially for disabled for above average. They don't teach they aggressive with the students. My son was there from the time he was 3 until he was 6, he has Autism. They wouldn't accept he had Autism only ADHD. We took him out a year a go and it's AMAZING the dif. in my son.

I think this school is OK. My daughter has gone there since the end of 2nd grade. When I compare to her last school (lee Jackson in Mathews) this one isn't nearly as good. The teachers are not every involved. They don't send notes when homework is missed, the seem to believe the students will learn from failing a grade 6mo. later. We don't know enough information bout events going on in the school to attend the FEW there are. My son is Autistic and I fear for him next year in K. They don't communicate well with the parents, and don't care they don't. Edline in this school is useless they don't update it except the week of reports plus they don't add missed work to get it done.. So though my kids go there if given the option would choose another. Last year the principle got arrested for DUI and hit and run... great examples there. ( I think the principle is better this year) thankfully.

My was was there from the time he was 3 because he has autism and we finally had to remove him when he was 6 because they gave us little other choice. He came in and went out with not much more than he had going in.

I feel my son with Autism was treated very unfairly and the staff especially the principle doesn't encurage trust or honesty

I have 2 boys at the school - one in K and the other in 2nd grade. Both of the boys have loved going to school this year. Both their teachers and assistant teachers have been wonderful and I have seen great growth in my kids this school year. My 2nd grader was a bit behind in his reading and every effort has been made to get him to where he needs to be. I find the school plenty of evening activities for the families to attend throughout the year and provide many opportunities for the parents to be involved if they desire to. I cannot speak for the principal or assistant Principal as I have not had much contact with them, but I have not been aware of any issues. Everyone from the office staff to whomever you may encounter in the halls have always been friendly and helpful. I find Magruder to be a top notch school and look forward to the opportunities they provide for my children.

the school is focusing on the kids to learn but also to be interesting and fun for them .

Teachers need to slow down and teach at the children's pace. Sure it's easier to teach children who confirm in a box but 90% of the human race learn differently, so the teachers should teach the way kids learn. The new math is confusing and our child would get answers to the problems in a quiz, activity or test correct, however the teacher marks it incorrect if the children wouldn't complete the problem the way it was taught. Why does it matter? If the answer is correct the student should recieve credit. Teachers at Magruder are only concern with their schools scores and not thinking of how yet can make learning fun for the students. The asst. Principal at this school is wildly inappropriate and is rude to the kids, she's so concerned and anxious about everything. It's frightening that our kids observe these teachers behavior daily. We're moving soon to another area of Williamsburg so the children can attend a more positively involved school named Matoaka, my wife and I have toured and observed this school and really love what we see. Magruder is overrated and should take a look at many missed opportunities starting with the caddy faculty.

Excellend overall school, have three kids, one going into 5th grade the other 2 going into 3rd. Excellent teachers and parent involvement is high. Only downside is they are on their 3rd Principal in 3 years and will be getting a new Assistant Principal, the new principal is coming from outside the district so that is an unknown at this point. High technologically driven school with students having access to all sorts of learning tools from iPODs, to computers to video cameras. Our oldest has special needs and the school has treated him great over the past 5 years!
