Amazing High school. Dr. Butler, the Principal is an amazing educator that truly cares about the students. She is very engaged. My son attended York High from his freshman to senior years. He was given the opportunity to blossom in every aspect from academics to sports.

Great School, don't send your kids to Tabb because it's popular when this is the best school in York County!!!

I had one child graduate from YHS and one is currently a sophomore. The New Horizons Auto-tech program was what my oldest needed. I'm glad that was available. The marching band is fun and they won States Championships last year. The teachers do care about the kids. My kids are middle of the road kids academically. The teachers teach what's required of course, but many of them have real life conversations with the kids as well. I find the teachers and administrative staff to be friendly and helpful. We are a military family, and I'm pleased with our decision to send our children to this school.

We are a military family and York High is the worst high school we have ever attended in our 20+ year in the USAF. Most of the teachers and certainly the principal are motivated toward assisting the children who come from the upper most income bracket. The school has a serious drug problem. One teacher has a reputation for passing only students that participate in sports; he is the coach! Students involved in choir, swim team or band never place in even regional competitions. Classroom behavior is a joke and does not help students trying to learn. One of my children is special needs and the IEP meetings were laughable. The special ed teachers are otherwise occupied and give little to no time to their students - they leave that to the aids, who are absolutely wonderful but working above their education and pay grade. Seriously, there is little good to say about York High. My advise is to live in the county so that your kids can attend Tabb High - better overall and the largest percentage of military kids. I love living in York County, but I'm glad my kids have put York High behind them!

The school is hardly perfect, but a good community, hard-working and enthusiastic teachers, i can't attest to how terrible the school may have been years back according to the previous reviews, but honestly the academic system is varied enough to give students challenge, standard classes are average as they DO give an adequate workload. There are some negatives, like many schools, standards classes aren't challenging the students to critically analyze works of literature, or get the "Big Picture" of history. The advanced courses challenging as the teachers strive to push students to do the work instead of giving in to student pressure like MANY other schools do. The AP courses provide a good challenge and aren't easy passes. Though to the bathroom vandalism criticisms, however its less actually breaking of the property, and mostly random words drawn on the stalls in markers, a trait common to most public schools. The staff itself however, can be generally unorganized as often students will be confused about how exams are handed out and how students are informed about general issues, such as fees for AP exams, occasionally contradicting their statements involving payment.

Excellent teachers, Parents that care, and a stoked and serious group of young people. They want to be someone someday!

If you plan on having you child in the International Baccalaureate program, advise you have them in this school's program from the beginning, transferring from another schools IB program to this one has caused *undue hardship* due to the differences between it's "particulars" and other IB programs we've been enrolled in.

My daughter is in the IB program at York. We started out the school year this year on a rough start. With intervention of the guidance counselor, one of the Vice Principals and her teacher and her teacher's colleagues, we were able to address the issues, come to a resolution and get her back on track to where she needs to be. The curriculum is definitely challenging, the opportunities in classes and extracurricular activities are immense. The choir director is amazing and so are the ROTC instructors. Your child can find somewhere to fit in here and will thrive while engaging in all YHS has to offer.
