Least classy school when it comes to sports. Their field hockey team is a bunch of bullies which let's me know that what they find acceptable at the school. Money doesn't buy class apparently

My review of Saint Gertrude (From a 2025 graduate)

PROS:
Great extracurriculars (field hockey, theater, tennis, track, swim, etc.)
Beautiful campus scenic views of the train, 288 bridge, and stunning sunrises.
Freshman year teachers are helpful and guide you through the transition (though sometimes overly strict in front of peers, stay on top of work and teachers wont call you out).
Students who want to learn will be prepared for college.
Honors and AP classes are available (but read below).

CONS:
I had a 4.3 GPA and still had to fight just to take AP Chem. one teacher even told me Id fail and wasnt smart enough. I ended up with a 98 average and a 5 on the AP exam.
Students have very little voice in course selection. I wanted to take more AP sciences to prepare for a biology major, but was denied because I didnt start in honors early enough.
Big warning to freshmen: BEG for honors classes your first year. If you dont start with honors or APs as a freshman, its very hard to move up later, no matter your GPA or improvement.
For a school that costs $25,000 a year, being told youre not good enough, even with good grades is incredibly discouraging.
If your daughter wants AP or HONORS classes but doesnt have a perfect GPA, you may want to consider a public school where shell have more opportunities to get into her dream classes

This site seems to have a lot of complaints but Im not sure if its bc people who enjoy the school do not rate it. My daughter transferred her in the 2024-2025 school year and LOVES it. We have a very rich ethnic background and while everywhere you go there will be some people of low emotional IQ this school is mostly made up of driven ambitious young ladies. My daughter is thriving and coming from the public school system finds this school not only exposes her to so many options but feels encouraged to push for any of her goals. I read a lot about cliques in the reviews and it has not been her experience. Although many of these girls have been attending private schools together since childhood my daughter floats around all friend groups. The admissions officer is amazing and oddly has said at not just my eldest daughters interview but now my second daughters that they are here to grow women and I stand on that. While this school is very demanding they offer in house and recommendation list of tutors. Also, St. Gertrudes is pricey but there are options for financial aid. We love it here.

Very toxic and cliquey environment. Bullying is out of control and the teachers are just as bad.

As a former student of this school, I have never felt more unsafe in a space that was supposed to be a place to guide and teach me. Not only are the students of this school terrible but so is the administration. The bullying issue has been brought to their attention many times but nothing is ever done because they do NOT care about the well-being of the students here. I came out of this school with PTSD so I do not recommend this place for any young girl.

Horrible experience for my oldest girl and me as a parent. At the time, teachers and administrators were very mean and pigeon holed students from day one. Pretty bad when the teachers and administrators are worst than and less mature than the students. Don't waste your money.

I am an alumni that graduated in 2015 and went on to earn a bachelors degree from a 4-year college. I am thankful that I had the knowledge and skills from Saint Gertrude going into my freshman year of college. When I first realized that my education at SGHS would make a tremendous difference in my college experience I was in my first year writing class. I encountered several students who did not know how to annotate readings or create outlines, which are fundamental skills taught from the beginning at SGHS. I then started to realize that my 4 years at SGHS would come in very handy during the transitional period into college. I was much more prepared and felt more comfortable, making it easier to focus on the material I was learning and not how to study it or do the work on time.

While at SGHS I also played 2 sports each year, created lifelong friendships and relationships with my teachers. I still communicate with many of them and love when we get to catch up.

I am an alumni and so is my eldest daughter. Sadly, this is becoming a different school than the one we loved and attended. When it was time for my youngest to apply, the admissions director had changed, the process was much more business oriented. If you did not learn a certain way or have a certain personality, you would be declined. Basically they used to say, "we grow women". Now they expect you to already be one. As for having a child with mild learning disability, we were told they didn't want to accept her and have her not do well (that would make THEM look bad, right?) I want to ask the question to them: For more than $$ 12,000, you are basically telling me your school is not equipped to or does not have the resources to teach MY child. My daughter is graduating from public high school, they weren't much better, expectially in a large environment. But I expected better from my alma mater. This change into being a competitive "business" prep school, I feel is selling out. Some things should remain sacred.

My daughter is a freshman this year at St. Gertrude's, and she absolutely loves it. She was always a bit introverted with just a couple of friends, and she is now blossoming. The academics are challenging, but the environment is so supportive. She is always happy to go to school, which is not something I have always seen. The school really strives to create an environment for young women to find success, and I have been impressed by what I have seen and the positive changes that I have already seen in my daughter. She came from a mixed middle school environment, and loves the all girls classes. The uniform makes life so easy and no one has to worry about fashion decisions and fitting in. The goal is to achieve individuality through your character, not your fashion accessories (or how much you can afford). Each class bonds together, and there is a strong emphasis on creating a sisterhood at the school. I have been amazed at how close the Gertie girls are, even long after graduation. It really is a connection for life. There is just an excitement to the school, and I would strongly encourage girls to consider it.

Saint Gertrude is really not what I thought it was going to be.. I attend the school as a sophomore and it is my first year there. I'm really disappointed in the school because there is way too much drama for high school, more than a usual high school. Not only this, but many of the teachers don't add up to how much money the school costs. I believe that the school just doesn't fit me well, because I do have some friends who really enjoy the school. On the other hand, I have friends who are wanting to transfer out like me.. I think the main idea is that before you choose this school, you visit and shadow the girls and make sure this is the type of school you want. I believe it's better to go to if you're catholic for sure too. Lastly, you have to be extremely diligent in your academics and spend many hours on homework.. and play sports or act. It's a lot to take on if you don't really love it.
