Williamsburg Christian academy is outstanding! My son transitioned here back in October of 2024/2025 school year. WCA and its entire staff is a hidden Gem in Williamsburg and we feel truly blessed and thankful that my son attends this school. Their teachers and staff go above and beyond to provide a caring, christ centered education that provides excellent communication, care and guidance. I tell everyone I meet about WCA and it has been a godsend for my son. I am so thankful he is not in the public school system here anymore. WCA and its entire staff has welcomed my son with open arms and have been nothing but supportive, caring and just amazing since he started! I have nothing but pure adoration for the WCA community and school! Thank you all always!!

Williamsburg Christian Academy is the pinnacle of private school education. The school motto of seen, valued and heard is felt and lived throughout the entire academy. The learning facilitators (teachers) engage, inspire and educate the children with purpose and kindness. Our children were welcomed warmly, quickly made friends and are thriving academically and socially. We love WCA because it has a modern education structure, utilizes technology appropriately, teaches Christian values, and offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program for upper school students. If youre not familiar with the IB program, its worthwhile to learn about if your children are planning to attend college. Its a huge advantage! WCA really is the best private school in this area. We also love that the tuition is affordable because WCA is a responsible steward of the tuition dollars and collaborative and transparent with parents about how the tuition dollars are spent. Overall, its just a wonderful place for parents and students. Highly recommend this school and writing the review as parents sharing for the benefit of other parents.

This is our son's first year at WCA. We were looking to improve his High School experience and that goal was not just met but exceeded. The faculty, and administration have taken the time to get to know our son's strengths and weaknesses and he is thriving academically, socially and athletically. I've seen some negative reviews on this site and other similar sites that are from parents of students from previous school years. I can't speak to their concerns in the past but can share that as a parent new to WCA this academic year, and of a currently enrolled student, I highly recommend WCA and have not had any problems with communication from the staff or administration. Teacher turn over for this school year is the most minimal we've seen compared to that of other schools our children attended over many years. They have several sports and activities for students to participate in. I am not a staff member, just a parent and it is easy to observe how the faculty at large works as a team to make school an amazing experience for the students. It is delightful how they encourage parents to come to school events and how transparent they are about what was accomplished this year and their vision for the future.

We were at a loss with our daughters overall HS path. Public school was just not the right fit. Once we found the discipline, academtic support and over all accountability of individuals at WCA , we knew we had made the right choice. She is finally excited to go to school.

Weve had an amazing experience with WCA, highly recommended for kiddos of all ages. Our kids love it there. The learning facilitators and staff have all been amazing, we couldnt ask for a better school. Our boys have excelled academically here and they have been given an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports. This school is great and highly recommended!

WCA has been an amazing transition for my children ! As a family who previously homeschooled, WCA was a great transition to a structured learning environment, ability to make friendships, and participate in clubs and sports programs. Class sizes are half the size of the public school system. My kids have now been there for a few years and love it. Leadership and faculty go out of there way to make sure your child is getting the individual guidance needed to allow your child to flourish and find out who they are and what they are capable of as they grow into young adults with good morals, values, and a solid education.

Overall this school is truly one of the best. They teach each student to do their personal best and offer resources and help when students need it in a very organic way so no one feels punished for it. Kids feel heard and stretched academically! As a former homeschool mom sending my kids to public school felt like my kids gained gaps they didn't have previously so WCA has been an amazing help in closing those gaps and encouraging my students to stay engagaed!

Current school year 23/4 has a mass exodus of students (around 1/2 of the population) because of the current administration. Concerns fall on deaf ears and parents are belittled and mocked behind their back. Previous teachers were hired with no certifications. School blames "economy" and "current staff only care about money" for lack of hires or those that leave for years and happily uses religion to guilt students and parents. They are not a representation of what a Christian school should be. Certain HS teachers play favorite to their own children and use that to weaponize animosity and strife amongst students, then they blame others because they are "jealous" and "not walking in gods light" like their child. Advertises as a boarding school - they do not have a building to house boarders, they are put into "host families". No real clubs: they were thrown together. Lacrosse is advertised every year as a sport: they do not have a team or coaches.

My children are thriving at this school! I have three kids in both upper and lower schools, and they have all received a stellar education, ranking above average in MAP testing. The teachers are very engaged and focus on individualized education. I have two children with learning disabilities, and they were incredibly flexible when I needed to create special accommodations for them.

Time sensitive emails regarding education from parents can go unanswered for months - which impedes learning. Teachers cannot answer emails or have meeting with parents unless an administrator is involved for control what is said.

This place will use religion to weaponize and guilt, staff, parents, and students
School will do whatever is needed to protect themselves, rather than looking out for the best interest of students.
Students, Parents and Teachers (called Learning Facilitators) are called the problem but never the school itself.
Parents who are concerned about their Childrens education are called entitled because we want answers and accountability for their actions.

Extremely HIGH turn over rate of students and teachers - The student population has left (or is leaving) due to falling behind in education and intimidation.

Our experience with WCA as parents of a child currently enrolled has been positive and encouraging. Each term the Learning Facilitators spend time with parents and students in conference to discuss tangible and intangible strengths and opportunities. It has enhanced our communication with LF's and the administration as to our child's progress. Further, we have met with the administration--they have always been willing to meet--to understand the IB approach and vision the school has for its learners. We are pleased with their leadership, the qualifications of the educations (LF's), and direction of the school. Our child has improved in areas of struggle prior to arriving at WCA. It is a testament to process, especially what they call the flipped classroom model.

One downside is the parent culture. There are many parents who actively engage and support the LF's through their WCA parent group, but there are some whose sense of entitlement due to the fact this is a tuition-based school, leads to strife not only for administration, but for the LF's and students alike. Thankfully, this has improved and looks to be improving. With that said, we are pleased with WCA and look forward to our child graduating from this fine academy.

There are numerous children that are behind grade level. When children leave this school. They are behind the kids in other schools. Some are even being told they will have to repeat their current grade. There is no communication that students are struggling from leadership. You will probably need a tutor to get your child up to speed. There is also large portions of grades losing significant numbers of students. They are offering discounts to fill the voids left by their incompetence.
We have spent 4 years here. The turnover is very high. The head of school is only visible in recordings of him being rude to families or with fundraising.
The IBL has been a failure. This current board has been a failure. I strongly recommend you consider other schools. This school does not have what it takes anymore.

Our child is thriving at WCA. The learning facilitators and administrators are firm and gracious. As an IB school, the work load affords our child the opportunity to develop disciplined study habits while enjoying extracurriculars and shared experience with classmates. The learning facilitators (what the school calls teachers) are not only qualified with good credentials, but are helpful and gracious. For example, each semester every learning facilitator meets personally with the families in the presence of our child to affirm and challenge the learning experience. The result has been encouraging and helpful! At times we have been brought to tears by the way they have affirmed our child while at the same time calling our child to be a more courageous risk taker in the classroom. We are grateful for the schools leadership for making this practice a standard.

Also, WCA offers the benefits of a private IB education grounded in Christian virtue ethics in addition to a host of sports and club activities.

Furthermore, the commitment the school has to international students has expanded our childs awareness of the world. To us, this is a strength of WCA as it exposes our child to diversity.

We are grateful for the leadership of WCA, from the head of school to the learning facilities to the support staff. They are kind and willing to listen and are committed to our childs needs, while at the same time committed to the overall good of the program. My experience at WCA started off promising, but over the years, the quality of teachers and leadership has sharply declined. The lower school lacks a competent 5th-grade teacher, and parents are charged extra for IDP services without receiving qualified assistance. The hired teachers are ill-equipped to handle special needs kids, exemplified by a recent incident where the 5th-grade class was forced to clean instead of attending math class. Complaints fall on deaf ears, portraying a lack of accountability from the supposedly Christian leadership. Upper school isn't spared either, with teachers disrespecting students and bullying those with special needs. This so-called Christian school is far from its proclaimed values.

WCA is delighted to announce that as of January 2023, we are now approved as an International Baccalaureate continuum school, offering a continuous IB curriculum to our students from Kindergarten through graduation.

Per the International Baccalaureate website, the International Baccalaureate (IB) is a global leader in international educationdeveloping inquiring, knowledgeable, confident, and caring young people. Their program empowers school-aged students to take ownership of their own learning and helps them develop future-ready skills to make a difference and thrive in a world that changes fast.

Studies have shown this model pays off in terms of college admissions. In a survey by Crimson Education, over 4,000 students were surveyed, and the results showed that IB Diploma Programme graduates were 18% more likely on average to gain admission to Ivy League colleges and 22% more likely on average to gain admission to other Top 50 colleges and universities. Examinations in the IB enjoy equal standing with AP examinations, and high scores earn students college credit in the majority of cases. Some universities value the IB Diploma so highly that certain aggregate scores earn students an entire year of college credit. Dr. Eugene Carson, former Associate Provost at Virginia Tech and chief of their admissions and registrar departments offered, IB students who attended that university (Virginia Tech) as freshmen significantly outperformed all other freshmen, including students who had taken Advanced Placement courses.

I have two kids at this school and we couldn't be happier. The International Baccalaureate program is great and they have a curriculum for all different kinds of students whether your child is headed to college or the workforce. We've been able to tailor learning for our kids and that's why we chose WCA to begin with. Responsive, talented teachers and school leadership. They also have a sports program that is about scholar-athletes, not recruiting. They have Golf, Basketball, Soccer, Field hockey, cross-country, volleyball, swim, and soon LaCrosse. Check out what sports they are adding next year! This school values and builds strong character, embraces diversity, and has an international students program. Best part is that it is led by Mr. Johnny Graham, the Headmaster of WCA. His leadership is making this school better year after year.

The best thing I could have done as a parent is send my 5 year old to Williamsburg Christian academy for kindergarten this year! Having the stability of being in school and the personalized attention she gets from her teachers and staff alone is a blessing. We will definitely be back next year.

My son came to WCA after Christmas and even though we did not know where the funds would come from we knew this is where God wanted my son. He found wonderful friends, amazing teachers and was included into sports even though he came late in the season. To my son athletics is one of his passions so this was a plus for him. I just wanted to say thank you so much for being a wonderful Christian learning environment for my child. Teachers have been wonderful and he has certainly thrived. I love that prayer is in his school and God's will come first here. During the whole COVID-19 crisis as I watched other parents and students in various other public and private school struggle with knowing what was going on and how their child was going to continue the remainder of the school year. They had lack of instructions and student are not even being given grades with total lack of assignments. Here at WCA we never skipped a beat. My son never missed a day of school and each day he has detailed instructions and constants contact with every teacher. My child has every assignment graded and has continued to learn and thrive. We have been well informed the whole time and are so thankful that we were at WCA when this pandemic hit. Even though he would much rather be at school in person with friends and having a live teacher in front of you can not be replaced by a computer WCA has made this as easy as I could have possibly have imagined.

Yes - I have children on opposite learning ends; one is gifted and working ahead and the other needs help with writing, speaking, and reading. The school and teachers have worked with us to ensure both have their needs and challenges met. WCA also supports the local W&M Summer Enrichment Program and encourages us to send our gifted child there for programs.

The Staff, Administrators, and Teachers at Williamsburg Christian Academy (WCA) have guided students and parents' in a stellar manner during the COVID-19 pandemic. School leadership was quick to respond to parents questions and concerns when the Governor closed the schools and their ability to turn around an outline and agenda for the students during this time has been constructive to maintaining a sense of community and familiarity to my children. We have two children in the lower school and their daily assignments have been adapted appropriately to their level of understanding and also clear to us as the parents so we can assist our children in implementing the subject matter at hand. While there were roadblocks for us as parents to assist our children, such as learning about Zoom and Google Docs, the teachers have been patient and understanding. My children also love and adore having weekly 'virtual' praise and worship and virtual meetings with their teachers and classmates. Additionally we can set up a time for our child to FaceTime with their teacher so they can have a one-on-one to go over a project or just check in. WCA has done an outstanding role in ensuring my children know they are cared for and thought of during this time.

OLDER review - still pertinent: Both my children love attending WCA. Each child received the attention and care they need during the day and both talk about how much they love the staff and the activities. The class sizes are small and the teachers have been working with us to help our children succeed or be challenged more.

We moved to the area from an overseas assignment and our children attended a local British school and needed help adapting to the American school environment. WCA has helped them every step of the way. My 1st grader comes home excited to read, something he didn't do previously, and he absolutely adores his teacher. My 3rd grader comes home singing songs and has been thrilled to be a part of the spring musical/play as well as learning basketball - he only had cricket, tennis, and rounders in the UK so basketball is a new sport to him.

Having the before and after care programs has really helped us with our working schedules as well. We've been very pleased with WCA and their willingness to work with us well before our move to the area while we were still posted overseas.

Teachers in the lower school ensure we have a weekly outline of what is expected in each grade for the students during the week. Emails and newsletters also keep us parents in the loop.

During COVID-19 time the school was extremely effective in sending out daily agendas for the lower school students or daily emails so we can ensure as parents that our kids are completing assignments daily.

Extremely. The small classes sizes means that the teachers can really get to know each student and their motivations and needs. They find ways to focus my one child and challenge the other.

During COVID-19 both teachers were available to meet with my children either via FaceTime or Zoom meetings and if there were questions or issues quick to respond to us as parents or my children.

I am so very thankful for the staff at this school. They know every single kids name. The staff - all of them- personally help walk the littles to the door in the car line. My son's kindergarten teacher designs "fun Fridays" where everything - including the lunch they make together- starts with a letter. So, for "T" day, they did ties, tiaras, tutus, wore tye-dye that she helped them make! and they made tacos for lunch and ate together. They get an HOUR of recess, plus PE, plus "outdoor classroom" time, and every other excuse they can get to get the kids moving and engaged. The teachers truly love what they do here.

As I mentioned before I have one child that is extremely gifted and one child that needs a bit more work. The school has really worked with us with both to include helping us enroll the oldest in outside gifted program and gives my younger child the extra help he needs. WCA does have a speech therapist that works with the school and if there are needs in that area, you will receive them from the county at this school. Although there is not a gifted program per se at WCA there are plenty of teachers who have a solid background in teaching gifted students and they have their own mini programs for those students. The teachers and leadership at the school really works with the parents to ensure the needs are met.

Phenomenal - we've been extremely please. The bonus is the small class sizes and I enjoy the school uniform policy (simple solid polo shirt for boys and plain shorts or chinos in basic colors). My kids adapted extremely well to Saxon math and Handwriting without tears. Their chosen spelling curriculum has worked extremely well for my kids in addition. My younger son enjoys the reading he gets and brings home his mini books to read over and over at home and went from having a hard time reading to wanting to read at home. What surprised me the most is my older son went from not caring one hoot about the Bible and goofing off in church to really enjoying the lesson, the singing, and reading passages from the Bible. As I stated before this school caters to a huge background of different Christian denominations from the various students so they work with just the core Christian values and it's really made an impact on our children for the better. We've been extremely happy to have made WCA our school home.

Our children come home with yellow folders specially for homework. In the younger grades 20 minutes of reading is expected and there are different assignments throughout the week. The teachers also send out a weekly agenda so you know what the students are learning that particular week.

My oldest as extremely self centered prior to enrolling in WCA and since we started him here he's become more compassionate and more caring. He wants to help and be a part of his class and the groups. This is a Christian non-denominational school and the Bible lessons help him understand why he should respect and be compassionate. Specific doctrine isn't taught but rather the core lessons of the Bible and it's become one of his favorite parts of the day. He also enjoys assembly and praise time. It's really helped him overall grow as a child.

My son came to WCA from public Kindergarten, barely able to read. After four months at WCA he is picking up books and reading them to our family in the evening. His teacher is amazing, supportive and truly cares about his individual success.

We have not encountered any instances with our children. Every school seems to struggle with this as parents have varying opinions as to what constitutes bullying. However, they seem to be proactive and have dealt quickly with incidences that have occurred.

Small class sizes allow for good class discussion and effective homework assignments. The homework assigned to my children is not "busy" work, and not structured to teach to the SOLs. AP assignments are similar to the public schools, except additional reading and books are assigned to our kids.

They incorporate the Christian worldview in all classes, recognize positive character traits through awards, and offer community service opportunities, as well as annual missions trips to locations around the country and abroad. In middle school, our kids regularly helped distribute food at the Grove Christian Outreach Center.

We love this school. Our kids have grown so much since they have been there, in all aspects. They are not sheltered, but we feel they are safe and nurtured while also seeing the world as it really is, rather than what we wish it would be. There are no SOLs that tie teachers hands, the culture is loving with a spiritual emphasis, while preparing them for the world.

Excellent! We have moved around a bit and dealt with several other public and private schools. WCA surpasses them all in every area of education that we have dealt with which includes special behavioral issues and learning styles. The staff is welcoming, encouraging, and professional. My daughter had a good experience from K-5 however with adm change her 6 th grade experience was no less the horrible. I regret not changing after the 5th when there was an exidous of upper school students and teachers due to refusing to change grades. By staying my daughter indured bullying by new kids who had been dismissed by other schools, no certified teachers and a director who lacked ethics and the ability to tell the truth. I paid $8,500 for a public school experience without an eduction.

I am sorry and I know we all have our opinions but I can not agree with the parent that stated "You cannot have a thriving school where there is vastly differential treatment based on who one's parents are or how much they have given to the school." We are actually not from the area but we do send our child to this school and I am forever blessed. We give what we can to the school, which is not much believe me, and they still love my child just as much as the one next to them whose parents can give regularly. It doesn't matter if you give religiously or just make the monthly payments....they treat your child just the same. My child came with some learning issues as well and they have bent over backwards to make sure that they succeed. I am sorry that you did not have the same experience that most of us have but I can say that I am a parent of no worth in the community with a child who is thriving in this school because of the staff and teachers. WCA is a family.

Our daughter has gone through middle school at WCA and is now finishing her first year of high school. She has blossomed with the personalized attention and had the opportunity to be involved in several of her favorite areas of interest, including performing in school plays, participating in art shows/events, and playing an instrument weekly for the chapel service praise band. She is challenged academically and has been able to take advanced classes. We are thrilled with all she is accomplishing there.

Honestly, I cannot remember the last time there was unaddressed bullying with my kids at the school. If others are having difficulty with this, they are clearly not coming in to talk about it...the administration takes great steps to address issues brought up with parents if you actually bring them to leadership's attention....

This may be one of WCA's greatest strengths. Teachers work tirelessly to keep students engaged and set them up for success, not failure. Many kids learn in many different ways, and the message at WCA is clear, that is that no matter what your challenges are, you can overcome them. I also see respect for fellow students stressed daily...not sure where the claim of unaddressed bullying is coming from.=, I certainly haven't seen that. You'll never have a school with no bullying, but WCA is pretty close to that, and any incidents approaching my child with teasing or bullying were addressed to my satisfaction and haven't been a pattern.

It's true, there has been a lot of turnover, but the teachers they've hired already look to be top notch. Almost surprised to see such high caliber candidates sign on given the past circumstances. Pretty miraculous, actually. But then again, this is God's school, we should probably expect miracles from Him to sustain His school.

My daughter is in the Upper School (Collegiate years?) and works very hard, but the homework is not so excessive, and she participates in a year round athletic program. I've seen the rigor in the homework and it's definitely challenging. All of the parents in her class echo that sentiment. I've never heard anyone who has told me that their homework is too easy or that they were allowed to skate. It's not busywork either.

WCA has been a gift from God for my kids, especially my son who is twice exceptional. There is no school in the area that can match WCA for teaching to the child. The price we pay is a BARGAIN for the personalized attention they get.

And I'll go on the record, my kid has books for all their classes and the rigor is great. I am also personally more concerned with how strongly my child is being educated and not so much focused on the logistics of lunch. But that's just my 'mentality'.

I want to put in a review is to commend the new leadership at the school. They are doing a phenomenal job righting a ship that looked almost rudderless two years ago this time.

The energy level of the kids and the direction the school is moving towards is just so exciting, it's hard not to gush about it. Within the next couple years, I predict there will be wait lists for classes and the curriculum and programs will move in incredible directions. And the new leadership is responsible for making that happen.

Many families when considering WCA ask themselves if they can really afford WCA, when what they really need to ask with the issues present at many local public schools is whether they can afford NOT to send their kids to WCA.

I am not one to dwell in the past although I do believe in learning from ones mistakes. While I am not sure of all of them, I do know that the leadership team is strong and making strides in the right direction. The leadership team knows how to deal with challenges, big and small, and they are pouring their heart into this school.....everyone is!! WCA is a great school with Christian principles strongly in place guiding its teachers, staff and programs. I am blessed to be part of this school and have my children attend here. A group of teachers last year were ineffective. Most of them are gone. The solid core of teachers remains and the school has added new teachers, including a PhD teaching Physics and Calculus. High school Students struggled last year when many of those teachers either quit mid contract over the leadership change, abandoning their duty to the kids, or checked out and coasted to the end of their contracts, which is what the most recent student review seems to be pointing to. I'm not sure which was worse. There were teachers who have no longer there that supported the previous leadership that actually sat back and told students they didn't want to teach today and just asked the kids what they wanted to do. Ridiculous. Those teachers had to go and they are gone, despite what the most recent negative student review would have you believe that those teachers were the ones that wanted to 'change' WCA. That entire review contradicts itself, because the teachers who are no longer there either gave up on their students and left or stayed and did NOTHING to help their seniors. NONETHELESS, a small less than 20 student senior class picked up $750k in scholarships with the remaining teachers who worked tirelessly to finish the year strong for these kids.

Whole new philosophy in place now, though, dedicated to excellence. If you want blind rigidity and legalism, then you are at the wrong school. The teachers that departed the school last year were 100% what was wrong with the school last year. This year, totally different picture, people are happy, kids are thriving...weird, right?

Oh dear, where to begin. First things first, I would not take into consideration any of the reviews older than the beginning of 2015 as the school has changed dramatically in the past year (and not for the better). That being said, I can honestly say that I don't think I can ever be in a more apathetic environment than WCA. It not only makes me sad for all of the students, but it also makes me mad that the school offered no motivation for myself. Much of the homework that was assigned was pretty much optional and could be easily changed if you talked to a teacher. I would not trust any reviews from "students" for this reason, because of course students will leave positive reviews of the school, they are taking easy classes and doing easy work with no real consequences, until they reach their senior year and realize "Oh wait, I am extremely behind compared to students in other schools who are applying to the same college that I am." I know Senioritis is a thing that most schools have, but when you have practically every student in high shool (including non-seniors) treating every class as if it was a study hall, and getting away with it because there are only a few teachers willing to do something about it, there is something wrong. Oh and by the way, those few teachers that were wanting to change the school for the better were all the ones who left in March 2015 (a date that is important if you've read a few of these reviews). They did not leave in disgrace as the review below would have you believe, but because the school had disgraced them and would not change their own lack of discipline. And if you can believe it, many of my own friends actually respected them for doing that. Unfortunately, I am not sure this has woken the school up. Change is definetely necessary, but the main obstacle WCA has faced since then was nearly all of the teaching staff leaving after the 2014-2015 school year. Can a school even come back from something like that? I highly doubt it, and since I graduated, from what I've seen and heard from my parents who still have a student that goes there (of whom they are pulling out) is that they have not.

WCA is a special place. As a student at the school for the past 8 years I can say that dispute the challenges set forth the school has always been able to overcome these challenges. In particular many on this forum have discussed the changes that took place from March 2015 onward. As a student experiencing these changes I can say that these changes were indeed necessary. The teaching staff that left midway thorough the year and those that stayed onto the end of the year were dishonorable and could not grasp the vision of all that God is currently doing at the school. This year is a very different climate with a focus on excellence and pushing students to do all that God has gifted them to do. Sometimes a dramatic shift is necessary to move forward and that is exactly what has happened. Gods hand is definitely upon this great school and as a student I'm extremely happy to see all that God is doing through me in my work at WCA as both the school and Christ have prepared me for life. I can tell you this from personal experience of actually being present at the school that academics are key to success and the new staff really understands this. I would absolutely recommend this school to anyone looking for a Christian education that is focused on the future.

There are probably a good half to two-thirds of teachers left over from last year with the difference being new this year so it's hard to predict what it will be like. That being said, I do think "effective" is the lowest score I would ever give them as I know this to be true and I expect that to grow to a "very effective" if this year goes as most people expect.

Fairness is such a tricky word. Is it "everyone getting a trophy?" No. Do some kids require more attention and mentoring than others? Yes. Assuming it means what it means in its basic context, then yes, it's a fair environment. Honesty and integrity are strongly developed. I've seen this firsthand in the days when our kids attended. I've seen it since then as a regular volunteer.

As a community member and former parent of kids who attended and graduated from WCA, I can say that our experience was very good overall with the education they received and the opportunities to play more sports, be involved in the annual musicals and develop quality friendships that are still active for them today. I was disappointed to hear about the unfortunate events that transpired after the former head of school was fired and other teachers, seemingly loyal to her instead of the Lord or, say their contracts, left in the dead of night while school was still in session and demanded payment in full despite not having fulfilled their part of the bargain. And all that in the name of Jesus? The same folks claim that Christ has been tossed from the building, referring to WCA. Cool thing is, He is Lord and can't be tossed anywhere. So despite that little bump in the road which really just strengthened the family of WCA and taught us to rely on Him, I hear all is well and moving forward. Praising God with many others that this is truly the case.

The kids that I've come into contact with all display to me that the school does a great job developing honesty, integrity and fairness. I wouldn't expect that to change because of selected staff changes. Sounded like most of the staff that left needed to go because they couldn't get on board with the established mission and vision, which was one preaching love and note hate. Messages coming from the school show great promise. If you have questions about the future, go in and ask the new head of school, I did. Don't listen to the departed, they have an agenda that is disingenuous.

As a parent, I saw the "writing" on the wall. They are not preparing students for the world around them. They are pushing a personal philosophical agenda and have left Christ behind. It is more important that all students get rewarded (trophies anyone....) The remaining faculty and administration forced grade changes and inflated gpa's by labeling classes honors or higher but were basic. If they cannot be honest why would you believe your children would be taught to be. Point - I'm aware of at least five families who made the most difficult decision by not letting their rising seniors return. This was the hardest thing many had ever had to do. All of their kids had been there for all their HS years and some even longer. However, they realized that their children were not prepared for "after" HS. This alone is a huge RED flag. Please be careful. Bottom line - the college professor will give your child a zero. the employer will give them a pink-slip.

I was lucky. My children have both finished their time there now. Lets start with some basic points. The school has turned away from God and His biblical teachings. Even one of the administrators commented that a Biblical Worldview can be too harsh. This past year was awful as well as the previous year. The behavior of many of the HS students was disrespectful and rude. It was allowed 2013-2014 and again from March on of 2015. The only teachers that stayed allowed such behavior. (Obviously no HS administrative support for teachers having to deal with the lack of respect and rudeness.)
(Note: Mr. and Mrs. Vaught have reiterated again and again that they are only "interim" and therefore ......... perhaps not much they can correct.)

It really depends on the age of the child. As a mom, I expected my children's homework to increase a little each year as they got older. The difficulty is they need to be trained in "how" to spend their time effectively on the work they have been given. School is where children are trained how to do independent work. (Mommies and Daddies don't go to college with them!) I know when my children were in MS - their primary HW was in English and Math, followed by science, bible, and social studies. That made sense to me as writing mechanics, literature, and math are the foundations. As they got older they did more and more. I feel it helped prepare them for HS. In HS they did more and I never felt it was too much. Did my children complain, of course! But I chose to parent and if their grades were low or they didn't do an assignment they lost one of their privileges.

Well let's get honest here. The head of school was fired by the board in January and she stayed on to the end of the school year. The assistant principle left, the head of development, the head of finance, the head of middle school left. All middle school teachers left, 8-10 high school teachers left, the PE teacher, who is also the varsity soccer coach left. The Strings Teacher..Left. The 4th quarter grades for HS 2015 were averaged from the previous 3 quarters because the substitute teachers were marking time and not teaching the students. The enrollment 2015-16 is down significantly. Pray for this school. They have turned away from God.

The most recent comment from a parent dated Aug. 14, 2015 is either an uninformed parent or they are knowingly lying about the current chaos at the school. Now, about the Godly character of the people who had to leave the school. They had to leave because of the ungodly character of the ones who remain. The 30 some teachers and staff who left are deeply passionate about our Lord and Savior. The level of vitriol and slander coming from this once loving Christian school is appalling. There is so much deceit at the school, I highly suggest to do your own homework and not be a passive listener.
There is a current investigation by the accreditation board ACSI/SACS for grade inflation. It's no wonder many in the graduation class received many scholarships.. The grades were not earned but given to the students and they will not be prepared for University coursework.

A PhD. Doesn't make you a Godly leader of the school, it gives you credentials to be a worldly leader. Many of the Godly leaders were forced out by the lies and deceit of the current staff.
The teachers last year had to leave because they were forced to inflate the grades of those students who did not earn the grade. Have you noticed the grading scale has been changed to 100-90 is now an "A". All the years at the school 100-92 was the"A". Being Average is always a great way to excell in this life. Everyone gets a trophy!

There's been a good bit of turnover in the teaching staff, but that's not actually a bad thing. The credentials of the new teachers being posted looks great, looking forward to having my kids in their classes. There were some ineffective teachers in the school last year, almost all left by the end of the year. Great people, just not great teachers. And the contention that new teachers somehow can't be effective is hogwash.

There has never been a better time to enroll at WCA. The school has been engaged in a leadership and staff turnover in the past months that was completely justified and necessary. Although the changes have been challenging, especially in the face of specific and coordinated actions to try and hinder the school going forward, the end result has been phenomenal. Vacant staff positions have been filled completely, and in many cases by new teachers who are far more qualified than those that departed angrily. The schools financial process and procedure has been repaired after years of mismanagement. But most importantly, the school has returned to the spirit that existed when it started and how Christ lived and taught us to live: with love and grace for each other. The school is finally, after much work by its leadership, poised for amazing growth and excellence. And we would expect no less, because WCA is His school, not our school. If you have questions about things you have read or heard, come in and speak to the new head of school so he can tell you the real story. You won't regret it. Don't allow your decision to be based on wild rumor and speculation, especially by those with an agenda. And it is quite clear that many reviewing here have an agenda, and are not just offerring observations, it's completely emotional. I was just at the Back to school night last night, the energy was incredible!

Buyer Beware: Trust the Facts not the emotion.

It has been about 3 years and counting. There has been massive turnover of the office staff and teachers from last year. Let's count those who have left; Head of School, Assistant Head of School, Head of Finance, and her associate, Head of Development, Head of Marketing and Associate, Head of middle School and ALL Middle School Teachers, 1/2 of the High School teachers. The Strings Teacher, The PE Teacher who is also the Varsity Soccer Coach. 1-2 elementary school teachers. Enrollment is down considerably. the accreditation board ACSI/SACS has been reviewing all the wrong doing at the school and the school is under review regarding the accreditation. So, if this were a performance review how would You rate the performance of this school. The question is why have they all left. It's about the vitriol and lies that are being told by those who remain. The culture of the school has turned away from discipline and respect, to one of entitlement. The school has a very liberal agenda when it comes to the interpretation of the bible. There are many parents who have left the school because of the liberal agenda, the lack of academic rigor and grade inflation. The AP classes are used as a marketing ploy to the public. The grades in the AP classes are A's and B's and the test scores on the national exams are 3 or lower. This school does not prepare your child for the college. Your child will struggle at the university level all for the premium cost of 10,000 dollars. I state all of this with a heavy heart and this truth will be rebutted with half truth's and lies. It truly saddens me having to write this about the school, but the truth needs to be told and not covered up any longer.

This year 2015-16 the teachers in middle school are ALL new to the school and 1/2 the teachers in the HS are new. How effective can they be at teaching and providing a Christian Education. Several of the new teachers each year end up not coming back after the Christmas break because they cannot handle the undisciplined students in the HS.

The remaining teachers are not honest with the students when it comes to grading of their work. Several teachers were pressured to change the grades of many of the high school students to higher grades even though the higher grades were not earned, they were granted to the student to boost the GPA. Your children will not be prepared for college even though you will be told they will be well prepared. They will not be.

I think that for the money, there's an expectation that the majority of the teaching will take place in the classroom and the amount of homework should be minimal. Yes, as the courses get harder and kids climb the grade ladder, I know more homework comes with that. But qualified and certified teachers should also be at a higher level of educating and classroom management; therefore, a minimal amount of homework should be required. Many of these kids play sports, act in musicals, play instruments and win science competitions. You can't expect them to do all that with excellence while still plowing through three to five hours of homework a night. Also, I know teachers who have personal issues and maybe not the highest EQs in the past have used homework almost as a form of punishment for their classes, and particularly for kids they just didn't like. But as others have said, those teachers either left or did not have their contracts renewed so it's a brighter day for WCA either way.

WCA was an outstanding fit for both of our children and gave them the skills they needed to confidently navigate college. Both are now in fields where they are gainfully employed and they both talk now about having their kids attend a private Christian school once they are old enough. I'd give them 6 stars if allowed.

I'd normally say very effective but my kids have been gone from WCA for many years now. However, I believe this upcoming school year will redefine, in the most positive ways, how effective the teachers will really be. The legalistic and pharisaic crowd is GONE. They can have all of that they want at the brand new school in Williamsburg that, to date, hasn't had a single day of actual school in its history, though they present themselves as an "established" institution. WCA is a bastion of love and grace and will continue to hire and train effective teachers.

Homework has become the default in many school systems for actual, effective teaching in the classroom. I think WCA gives too much homework for the sake of homework but am convinced that most of the class time is still properly utilized for solid content and consistent instruction.

Outstanding teaching in a loving and personalized environment. The students are challenged and given incredible academic experiences. My children have flourished here. As a student for 4 years, I have the confidence to say that Williamsburg Christian Academy is a loving, Christ centered place where they teach their students to love Jesus and to love others. I had no idea what to expect when I entered into WCA from a public school. I have never regretted my decision to go to WCA, as I was accepted with open arms into their unique community. I have never seen students reach out to newcomers the way the students at WCA do. WCA teaches their students to love others, and that was evident to me on my first day four years ago. The classes had no real rigorous homework. The homework that was completed was rarely ever collected or graded. The students were allowed to correct the wrong answers on the homework that was given so they could "achieve" a higher grade.

The current teachers and administrators are remarkably dedicated and qualified to teach extremely effectively. More than that, they truly care deeply about each student and foster an environment that is academically challenging, spiritually-grounded and personal. The few teachers and administrators who departed did not care for students this way; rather, they were consumed with their pride. And by the way, all schools have some teacher turnover every year. All who remain, and the incredible new additions, are in harmonious agreement that the educational, spiritual and personal development of the students is paramount. As a long time parent I knew the school when it was truly Christ centered, even before academics excelled a few years ago. I sent my child there for the christian values and environment. I would not make that same decision today. I am heartbroken by the cavalier way they have tossed Christ from the building. Both academics and Christian values have fallen to an all time low. The total turnover wasn't without cause. Over 30 faculty and staff wouldn't choose to give up their income for no reason. The board listened to the wrong person at the expense of the the whole school. The previous comment about the Student Art Gallery is 100% correct, as well as the comment about the credentials of teachers and department heads. They should change the name to Williamsburg Enrichment School because they are neither Christian or an academy anymore. WCA is unrecognizable today and trading on the once good name of the school is wrong. Especially after tossing out the Christian curriculum.
I actually heard students discussing the fact that "they are going to re-work the grades". So I believe the grade changing allegations.
Please, Football in 2016! They have not even begun to explore the cost of a football program. let alone the enrollment they need to field a team. One more example of their unrealistic and flawed plan. A plan that involved banning certain parents/stakeholders that had opposing views from a "town hall" meeting.
No one wishes the school ill will, we didn't take our concerns to the newspaper for that reason. But the flat refusal of the board to represent the whole of the school family has left the school in a dire situation and their tax exempt status status in a precarious position. The shift from a fiduciary board to a proprietary one was a mistake.
Beware! And above all, pray for discernment when you visit, and wisdom when making your decision about your child's future.
On a final note, I notice on the WCA website that they have added a third secular accreditation. I'm sure that is because they are preparing to lose the ACSI and SACS accreditation which is at risk due to the recent investigation of allegations from stakeholders.
It is with all sincerity when I say I hope that one day the WCA we all knew and loved will be restored. That it will thrive, and feed its students the Word of God above all else.

As a previous student at this school, I feel it necessary to warn new students and families of the heresy being taught at this school. Over the years, it has gotten worse and worse. When I began at WCA, it was a fairly good school, but as time progressed, the school began to favor students, change grades, and make exceptions for the most ridiculous excuses. I felt pin-pointed for failure by the administration. In no way did I feel encouraged or supported. One teacher before every test or quiz would tell the class that they are not going to do well. With the littlest excuse, some students would get out of exams or tests. Teachers even began to change grades to make the school appear better. One teacher in particular encouraged students to not take the final AP examination, and to further encourage the students to not take the exam, she gave up teaching and as a result I learned nothing. The Christian aspect of this school went to ruins rather rapidly. Teachers began to teach that homosexuality is okay and avoiding our weekly chapels. Students were also cut out of the worship team and discouraged to further their relationship with God. The years I was here I felt depressed and sad for the school. My ideas were stifled and my learning stumped by selfish ambitions. I fear for the upcoming year at WCA. If you are considering coming to this school or sending your student to this school, I would strongly advise you read these reviews, ask the administration about what I've written and what others have written. Personally, I would not go back or send a friend to this school. Thank you for your time and I hope this helps in your decision making process.

The teachers and current administrators love the students! They value and teach honesty, integrity and fairness every day. The students are comfortable going to them for anything because they trust them.

Our children have attended WCA for 8 years, and we love it. The balance of academics, spiritual life, athletics and other extra-curricular activities offered is unmatched anywhere on the peninsula. We left the public school system because of the ever increasing bureaucracy, one-size fits all mentality, and declining cultural and moral values espoused. It is so refreshing to be able to openly discuss topics that are off limits in the public schools but so important in a well-rounded educational curriculum. The Christ-centered grace-based approach to education enables the teachers to emphasize moral and spiritual lessons that complement the traditional STEM coursework. Also, the teachers choose to be at WCA because they want to teach in a Christian setting, not because of salary and benefits afforded by the public schools. The graduating classes continue to get scholarship offers and college admissions that are top notch, clearly proving that WCA provides a quality education in the eyes of the college admission boards. No school is perfect, but we have decided to keep our kids at WCA through high school and strongly encourage others to visit the school to see for yourself.

Top level academics taught in a way that each child can understand. Yet, the most impressive value is the environment and teaching styles that develop strong character and composure. No school is perfect; however, walk our hallways and you will get eye contact, warm welcomes, and strong handshakes from the staff AND from the students of WCA. We have always been in the public school systems and they do a nice job teaching; however, when it comes to composure and character building they do not even come close to WCA. It is a financial sacrifice to send our boys to WCA; yet, worth every penny.

This school is Christ centered, which I love. We have had our kids there since Kindergarten and WCA has been a fantastic experience for our family. My son, now In 5th grade, was a very shy little boy who is now flourishing academically, and socially and loves the small classroom atmosphere. The staff at WCA have been top notch and we are blessed to be able to send our children here. It truly feels like a family, and I know that my kids are being well taken care of and getting a great education, but most importantly they are loved and feel safe, and get closer to Christ.

As a graduate of WCA, it is a true blessing to be able to send my two children to this school throughout their entire education from preschool all the way up through 12th grade. Although they are now only in elementary school, I am confident that when they graduate, they will be prepared for college -- academically AND spiritually. I am already astounded at the high level of academic achievements they are making and the character they are developing in elementary school. This is because of the incredibly dedicated, well-equipped teachers and administrators at WCA and their commitment to know each student's strengths and weaknesses, and to incorporate a Christ-centered approach to each educational experience. WCA has it all -- top-notch academics, spiritual life, athletics, extracurricular opportunities, community service/missions...what more could a parent ask for?

As a parent at WCA for the past 10 years I can say the educational enviroment is exceptional. There are many ways to educate children and WCA embodies the best of educating the whole child. As our child is now a senior we see those results~ as he is preparing to step into the next phase of his educational journey. The teachers have made the difference! Being in a setting where teachers educate and pray is amazing. The level of academic rigor is challenging at each grade level. Its been a blessing to see his individual strengths developed and the areas he needed extra help in covered by the teachers. A safe enviroment where you have teachers / administration and parents working together for the child is priceless. Our child has experienced much more than academics. The opportunities for sports, the arts, mission trips, community service and leadership are all now on his resume for colleges~ WCA has been a second home for our entire family!

We have had our children in this school for 10 years and we absolutely love how much the teachers care about the children. The small class sizes are a huge plus too.

We very excited to send our daughter here after hearing all the stuff the school sells to you, but once in there my daughter had trouble with being bullied and with her academics. We then found out most of the teachers are not certified teachers and that when you tell about the children that are doing the bully nothing is done because there parents are big donors. The school has policy on discipline but does not follow it they make up different rule for different kids. When I took my daughter out she was really behind in the public school and had lots to catch up. Not a school to get your child ready for college.

We have had the pleasure of being a part of the WCA school family since 2005. I have been most impressed with the leadership in the school. Many on the administrative staff and faculty members have had a long history with WCA and clearly a steady hand has been at the helm. Our children have grown in their faith, have had access to amazing AP teachers and classes, enjoyed the many aspects of the drama and art departments, and have been on some excellent teams. We have no doubt that the decision we made all those years ago will truly be one of the best decisions we've ever made for our family. We are very proud of our children and their school, WCA!

The school teaches Christian believes and has beautiful grounds. The security of the school is great as all visitors have to enter from the only entrance opened during school hours. While I do not think there is a click, there is obviously favoritism. Families that donate money get to say what is going on and their kids are free to do whatever they want, to including bullying. There are cases were kids are been kicked out for bullying but no kids from the wealthy or powerful families. The basketball program is good as the school give grants to kids that otherwise will not be able to attend the school. This is good for recruiting and to keep the school in the press. The teachers are overall competent but there is no leadership in the administration. Many teachers have been there for a while. Sometimes husband and wives work in the school at the same time. If you have the opportunity to register the kid while they are in elementary school, it is a good choice. Otherwise, find one of the good schools in the great district.
