Walsingham Academy Lower School

My son started from preK3 and he is preK4 now. We transferred from a daycare to Walsingham Academy and immediately see the differences on our child's development and well-being. Not only he learned more knowledge, but also he is more healthy here. The warm-heart nurse take care of children with special needs. Teachers are extremely responsible for children's knowledge and good characters development. Before my son started school, he knew little English. But now he can speak English sentences all the time and even at home. The school does a good job to continuously encourage different students to catch up with the rest of the class. But we feel so sorry that we have to move to another city, otherwise I think we are going to complete my child's elementary education here. I visited a few schools in the other city I'm moving to and couldn't find one looks as good as Walsingham Academy.

My son started from preK3 and he is preK4 now. We get study sheets from school. This is absolutely different from just a daycare, where children just hang around and get mostly only basic needs.

Teachers in the preK program enforce regular schedules everyday. They have different emphasis each day (Music, PE, Art and so on). This is great. In an ordinary daycare, although it seems they have certain schedule, children never learn so effective as in Walsingham Academy. Their teachers are so amazing to teach children with young age.

Children are taught to pray to the God every morning, during meal and at the end of the day. They are taught to love each other, being an honest person.

Teachers are fair when any bullying happens. They find the truth and effectively solve the problem.

We have two children currently enrolled in Walsingham Academy in the Lower School. We have been with the school for a few years now and I have been thoroughly impressed and happy with every aspect of the school. We have never felt that "country club" mentality that can sometimes infiltrate private school communities. When we have had concerns, we have had the opportunity to be heard in a constructive forum that has ultimately led to positive outcomes, whether or not changes were made. We came from another private school in the area and we have found the rigor at WA to be strong and well thought out. It certainly is not for everyone, but I can honestly say that it has been wonderful for my children.

I'll echo another review who said that this school is great for the average child. It's a train wreck for any child on either end of the spectrum. I have never seen a school that takes such an extreme "one-size-fits-all" approach to education.

This is a good school for the average child, but if your child has any special medical needs or even slight behavior issues, you may find yourself out of a school mid year. When talking to us about our preschool child they said, we can only accommodate conforming children without any special needs. I find this attitude shameful; especially for a "Christ Centered School" I also found their nutritional program and safety policies to be substandard. Definetly not worth the money we paid. When we left we had this feeling we had just stepped out of the Truman show.

We moved here from a wonderful school district up north when our son was going to begin 7th grade. This is a very tough/emotional grade to move in and although it was a slow start for him he feels welcomed and loves the camaraderie of the student/teacher relationships you cannot find in a public school. It is academically challenged and more importantly you see the standards are held high by the students, not what you find in the general population of the public school systems across the nation. Our son will be graduating next year, and more importantly the student/college acceptance rate is 100% and over 75 % for first choice colleges. Average student applies to approximately 10 colleges. The school is phenomenal and truly prepares the student for college.

My children have attended Walsingham for the past 3 years and I couldn't be happier! The teachers and administration genuinely care about the kids. Walsingham offers a warm, nurturing environment where Students are challenged and encouraged.

I have children at Walsingham Academy and have been overwhelmed with the wonderful academic experience we've had since we moved our children to the Academy several years ago. Initially, when we moved to the Williamsburg area my children attended a different private Christian school in the area and, although the people were nice, we did not feel that our children were challenged academically. We have been pleased with the quality of the academic programs and have scene our children blossom into successful scholars. They also have an athletic program that begins in the Middle School, so that youth can begin developing healthy extracurricular interests at an early age.

My daughter has been at this school for one year and we can already see the difference in her education for the better. Everyone -- principals, teachers, and staff care about the children. In addition, the social skill set required of all students is an improvement over the public school experience.
