My daughter was bullied by her classmates. We reported it multiple times, as did the parents of the other student in the class who was also a target for their insults and isolation. Some attempts were made by the staff to stop the bullying but the group - especially the girls - took advantage of the limited supervision. It continued and built to the point where both girls are in counseling. My daughter frequebrly broke down in the car when i picked her up and she sobbed all the way home. After 2 episodes where i drove her straight to the ER we decided to withdraw. Then came the $3k withdrawal fee we had to pay because SCA wouldn't expel the perpetrators. Im still struggling with why they would charge us to escape the constant anxiety that attending this CHRISTIAN school caused. Nor why the bullies had no code of ethics to adhere to and weren't held responsible for their behaviors. I cant help but think that even some staff members were targeting her. She had her hair dyed a beautiful shade of reddish brown and despite being told twice that her hair was fine, they made her dye it basic brown after attending the first week of class. They have a dress code ans she followed it while the bullies didnt. Children of staff seem to get a pass as there is now a girl from her class that has purple hair. I dont have room to write about the inconsistencies in the dress code as applied. One teacher, knowing her love for horses; shared his experience eating hiorsemeat steaks while on a trip abroad. My daughter's friend is in Counseling and trying desperately complete the school year... that $3k withdrawal fee is stiff when tuition is only $8500. We canceled a planned Chriatmas vacation and used the money to keep our daughter safe. I find it interesting that a girl who never had more than 10 kids in her whole grade has left that school and is now thriving at public school with 450 in her class. Shes loving it. Her smile is back. And she has learned so much more at her new school. So. If youre pretty mainstream stylish, like to sneak around while at school, and want to pick on people whose personal style is different than yours then its quite possibly the place for you. If not then I recommend you consider carefully before getting caught in a one sided contract where there are apparently no exceptions from that $3k fee even if the environment leaves you with mental and emotional anguish. Find a good youth program at a local church. Its been the best for my kids.

As a Christian family, my parents and I chose this school with the sincere hope that it would offer a safe, respectful, and faith-based environment—something I didn’t experience in public school due to bullying and racism. Unfortunately, what we found was not better, but worse.

Despite the school’s Christian foundation, the values of kindness, fairness, and inclusion that we expected were not reflected in the culture here. I will not name individuals or go into detail, but I have personally experienced repeated instances of being singled out and mistreated, including blatant racism from a staff member. I have documentation of these events and brought my concerns to the appropriate channels, but meaningful change did not follow.

For African-American students and their families considering this school, I urge you to reconsider. Being one of very few Black students (often 1 in 15, rarely more than 3 in a class) already makes it difficult not to feel isolated. But what makes it worse is the lack of support and understanding from both peers and faculty.

This experience has been deeply disappointing. No student should feel unsafe, unwelcome, or unworthy—especially in a place that claims to reflect the love of Christ.

My children has started school here this year. I can see an improvement in their learning, i love the small class sizes, but bullying is a real thing. Many of the kids that have been there for a long time tent to get away with a lot. They also pick on the new comer to the school, with no repercussions. The senior and junior class are straight bullies. These children are mean and malicious. Even after my children bring up these incident to the teachers, nothing is done. There are racial comments being made that i can see makes the few African Americans in the school uncomfortable. If you speak up for yourself, you will be labeled as confrontational.. i understand close knit, but this is something else.

I love this school. My daughter has blossomed. She has overcome a learning disability,and is excelling. I love the Christian ethos.Teachers are dedicated to the children's success

While homework is absolutely vital to success and I believe it has a great impact on worth ethic, typical homework at this school tends to be on the heavy side. In addition while I strongly agree that every parent should take on the teacher roll at home...this school tends to rely on the parents as educators more so than the teachers. It makes you wonder about the layout of the academic timeline on a day to day basis at school. Often assignments are sent home with notes stating that they have become part of the homework since they ran out of time in class. This happens throughout various grade levels.

Awesome!! We have great teachers that give individualized attention. The principal and school board keep the end result in mind, but don't sacrifice the here and now for that end. Facebook posts for parents help to keep us informed of special days, etc. Would recommend this school to all races, cultures, religious back grounds. Great place for education.

Our child has attended K-2nd grade so far at SCA. We really feel like our school community is family for the parent/teacher involvement. The teachers and staff are truly investing their hearts, knowledge, and care into a great education and environment for their students. This is of critical importance to us, since that environment and instruction are foundational and impact so much of our child's future. We feel so grateful and blessed to be able to send our child to SCA.

Suffolk Christian Academy is a great school. This is my children's first year here. I have a 6th grader and a kindergarten. I am very pleased with the academics and even happier with the small teacher student ratio. Its nice that my 6th grader is not in a class of 32 students. My children are extremely happy. I feel very at home here. I would and have recommend Suffolk Christian academy.

Suffolk Christian Academy is a fantastic Christian school with great academics and low student teacher ratios. My child has attended since Pre-k and is now in 4th grade. Since it's incorporation, and the new school board, the school has truly flourished! I would recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional education for their children.

My children have been enrolled in Suffolk Christian since age 4 I love the feeling knowing my children are well cared for and loved here It feels more like family The staff are very caring and loving I agree with the parent who said they love the return on their investment I agree, it is an investment and one you cannot afford NOT to do I am happy to say SCA is our "home"

My 7th grader has attended SCA since kindergarten. I'm satisfied because she has small class sizes, individual attention, & few distractions present in the Suffolk Public Schools where many classes K-5 remain at 30 + students (several websites report 19-1 student/teacher ratio but that's incorrect. I'm a teacher in the system & we were in the Virginia-Pilot newspaper a years ago when it was revealed 55 classes K-5 had hit the 30+ number of students. This remains the same today-it's just not being reported.) This means "assembly-line education"- a teacher simply can't keep up with demands & I'm not willing to sacrifice my child's future because the schools can't get it together. SCA has provided a caring environment; my daughter has had some wonderful teachers who go the extra mile. Also, she needed a faith-based education-another thing the public schools can't offer. I see everyday the result of students who haven't the advantage of faith in Christ & the disservice they unknowingly suffer at having nothing to hold onto when life gets tough. My daughter knows/loves Christ. They partner w/me to prepare her to be a loving, principled, educated adult.

This small school is a true gem in the western Tidewater area. The education provided is rigorous, the teachers are dedicated and motivated, and the overall school environment is extremely positive. The Christian label is appropriate as faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of the school s entire operation. As a parent of two students at this academy I am very pleased with the return on my expense.

Suffolk Christian Academy continues to grow academically and keeps their eyes on our Lord Jesus Christ. I especially like the student support classes which have helped my child tremendously!!

Suffolk Christian Academy has been a wonderful option for our children. With all of the improvements and new staff, we are anticipating great things this year. Our children are enjoying themselves. They have wonderful teachers and friends who have made it home.

First Baptist Christian School has made some exciting growth.The new name is SUFFOLK CHRISTIAN ACADEMY and serves K-12 grades. It is now incorporated having a school board to govern the school not a single church committee. It is also supported by four other churches in the community and are all actively involved. The new strength and stability will surely allow for continued growth for this school in the future. I am super pleased with the structure, challenging curriculum and godly environment that my child encounters daily.
