It has teachers and staff that truly care about each student and they go above and beyond to help students learn and especially grow their faith in Jesus. The school really feels like a family and has so many great things to offer!

My children and now my grandchildren go here. It is a structured and advanced curriculum, so yes a bit demanding. Teachers are sometimes not certified but usually are working towards their degree. The online grading platform helps keep children in track and alerts are provided on a daily basis. Teachers are very responsive to questions.

Excellent! Devoted teachers and good discipline. Needs some revamping of sports program in order to remain competitive but rest of school programs are super! Christ is presented in classrooms and in over-all atmosphere. I've had grandchildren in this school for 6 years.

I can't say enough about how wonderful DBCS is. The teachers are genuine in their love for Christ and for the students. They take the time to show this on a daily basis. I rest assured knowing my child is in a loving, Christ-centered environment that encourages spiritual, academic, and personal growth.

Denbigh Baptist Christian School is a wonderful school. It wants to see the student succeed, reach their goals, and grow as a person. They strive to help the student with their relationship with others and most importantly God.

They understand the students and listen to them. They give them wise advise. They want to influence the students in a positive way and want to see the succeed. They also put in time and effort into teaching the students.

We've had our child attend this school for 4 years now. The teachers are great and administration is as well. They've been quick to help when there are issues and have always been attentive to the students. These negative reviews I'm not so sure about but wonder if the reviews would be different if they had to sign their names. - Megan Stewart

Poor high school experience for our family. There’s nepotism and favoritism all around. Kids are not disciplined properly, teachers do not have class management, and the administrators do not hold themselves accountable on their own discipline handbook. Lots of academic cheating and promiscuity that are left unpunished.

As a student currently going to this school I am saying this with the most sincerity. Do not send your child to this school. The teachers never give any form of discipline. The children act foolish and immature. The education and curriculum is dirt easy and simple. The are barely any extra curricular activities other than sports. The school seems to be more sports oriented. The children tend to be profane and perverted for their age. The children are very self obsessed. The atmosphere of the school is very displeasing. The discipline for bullying is far too mild. Some of the morals of the school are questionable (in the handbook). Do your kid a favor and don't send them to this school.

My children just finished their first year at DBCS in the full day 3 year old and 5 year old classes. They absolutely loved going to school and we, as parents, haven't had a single complaint. We have been so impressed with their academic and spiritual growth. The teachers have been such a blessing. They truly care about their students and go above and beyond to create a welcoming, safe classroom envionment.

DBCS has been a vital part of our son's education. He is getting ready to enter high school and is very excited to be able to take challenging courses that carry college credits. Knowing he will be surrounded by Christian leaders committed to each student's success, both in school and in their walk with Christ, we are confident he is in the best school around!

I am currently a nursing student at Liberty University and am also a graduate of Denbigh Baptist Christian School. I began my 13 years at DBCS when I was in kindergarten and worked my way through the school to my senior year in 2012. I would not trade my academic career for any other private of public school. Here's why: The environment is unlike anything else. The teachers are uplifting and they care for you. I mean truly care. Weekly, the teachers meet in the chapel and pray for every student. Academics were also extremely important to me because I knew the road ahead of me was going to be arduous. DBCS prepared me by providing dual enrollment classes through Thomas Nelson Community College my junior and senior year. Those credits I took in the DBCS classroom tranferred to Liberty University and gave me a jump start in my college education. The school cares for one another as their own. One would say it is like a family. When one goes down, the rest of the school meets them where they are at and helps them stand again.

As grandparents of 2 graduates and 1 present student, we have observed the quality of their Christ centered education. Presently one of these grandchildren has graduated from Cedarville University and the other is attending Liberty University. They were well prepared for college. As educators ourselves, we have viewed not only their academic preparation but the character that they have learned.

If you are looking for affordable, quality education in a loving, safe environment where teachers come along side parents and help instill Christian values than DBCS is the place to go. We are a military family and it is hard to find a place to call home each time we move. My children have been attending DBCS since elementary school and we have found a way to extend our time in Norfolk in order for our children to keep attending DBCS, hopefully through graduation. The teachers not only care about the academic needs of their students, but also their spiritual and personal life as well. My children have solid friendships, excel in their classwork and participate in the fine arts and sports programs. Many of their teachers have sacrificed their own personal time to attend extracurricular activities, give before and after school tutoring, host outside socials, or lead a Bible study. If we stay in the area through graduation, DBCS will have more than prepared my children for any university of their choice. While there are many options for Christian education in the Hampton Roads area, at DBCS you will not only be part of a great school, but you will also extend your family.

Great school! My son is in 1st grade and has some attitude issues,they work with him and help him focus,he has straight A's and is doing awesome,he likes the school and will send him back. Next year.

DBCS is a school where the Faculty and Staff all are there to assist the children both in achieving academic excellence but and spiritual success. I am proud to have my children in a school that has teaches these values and would recommend this school to any parents looking to have their children achieve academic excellence with Christian Values at the same time.

DBCS is very consistent about discipline. When a rule is broken, the student gets a demerit. Unless their parent works for the school or attends the church. If an athlete fails a class they are removed from their sports team. Unless the team is losing and they are a star player, or their parent works for the school, goes to the church, or complains enough. All faculty, volunteers and coaches have to sign a statement of faith. Unless the school can't find anyone else to volunteer, or they really need to win next year at the Metro conference, then they don't bother with that. All kids are treated and accepted the same. Unless they are different, new, or transferred in from public school.

My daughter loved DBCS. She is a recent graduate. We found the course work to be very challenging. She graduated with 8 college credits via the school's dual enrollment partnership with a local college (I believe a student can graduate with 12 dual enrollment credits and they can also earn additional college credit through the Advance Placement courses). My daughter enjoyed the athletic side of student life more, but I was always very impressed with the quality of the school's music, art, and drama departments. This school might not be the best fit for everyone, but my daughter was challenged both academically and spiritually. She felt safe she felt loved the faculty and coaching staff were very involved in her life.

Please note that a lot of the bad reviews are from 08 and 09. Now, there is a new administrator and many changes for the good. There will never be a perfect school but the teachers and the staff care deeply about the children in their classes. My child graduated from DBCS and loved every minute of it. She felt safe, loved and always found help if she struggled in any classes. It is true, there is no special ed program for lack of funds. But this is clearly stated and understood. Children have many options on extracurricular activities and are supported by coaches and teachers alike. There are many opportunities to grow spiritually. Chapels are now handled by our new Pastor of Student Ministries who works with the youth both in the church and the school.. There are many interesting speakers and a couple of weeks of spiritual emphasis to challenge students thinking and beliefs. I would highly recommend DBCS to other families and students.

I have been at DBCS for a few years. I have not found the school to be challenging, even though the grade scale is high the work is pretty easy. This year has been the worst as far as the way people treat each other. Bad language in the halls almost every day from everyone, people wait until there aren t any teachers around, gossiping is really terrible, the minute someone turns around everyone else starts talking about them. Then everyone just repeats everything that was said to the person and there is so much jealousy and hurt feelings and no reason for it. The parents are evern worse and there kids come to school and repeat everything they say! Some kids do whatever they want, lying constantly, even hitting and slapping people, sneaking out at lunch, they don t even regard the rules and the teachers see it and ignore it, others get demerits for every little thing, it seems to depend on who you know or if you came there because you are really good at a certain sport. No effort gets put into chapel, no impact on the way people act. I would love to go to a different school but my parents can t afford any other school in the area.

I went to DBCS for nine years (1st-8th, 12th). I tried public school from 9th-11th grade and it wasn't for me. I eventually decided to return to DBCS to graduate with my old friends. If you are considering Denbigh Bapist, please know that in middle school you will probably experience less educational prowess than if you are enrolled in public school. This is what prompted me to try public school; however the accelerated learning did not outweigh the comradery and spiritual direction my life was in need of. I excelled in the athletic program which is often how people are categorized in the school. Most people in the school play some sort of sport, so if you do not participate in sports you will probably not like DBCS as much as I did. Once you get to high school, teachers are more apt to developing a bond with their students. The one year I spent in high school at DBCS prepared me for college and I owe a lot to the great staff, namely Mr. Cass and Emperor Haggerty for being our class sponsors, excellent teachers, and great friends. I would also like to thank Col Hoxie and Mr. Hoxie for being great athletic coaches as they not only molded me athletically, but spiritually as well.

My teenaged son was becoming hardened and was failing academically in public school. He came to DBCS his junior year. I honestly credit the staff and student body for providing an environment in which he could thrive academically, socially, and, especially, spiritually. I believe this school rescued my "at risk" kid! Highly recommend it!
