I have been nothing but pleased with the Charles City county school system. It's a small school system and they know every child by name. Every childhood them is special. They have gone out of their way to make sure that our particular needs were met. I can't say enough good things about them.

One of the most unprofessional places to work. They do not even make sure that the teachers get their paychecks on time, and even when it's the Human Resource department's error they will still make teachers wait an additional two weeks for payment. The schools have no disciplinary actions in place for students who behave rather terribly. This was the worst environment that I have ever taught in.

I’m just the grandparent, but I do spend time with my grandson, including at school. The school has always been helpful, courteous, and empathetic. Thank you

Homework in second grade allows the student to choose from various assignments. For my grandson, this gives him (and me) ideas about his preferences and aptitude. It also is a creative approach and motivates my grandson

The experience with my grandson and school is all I can judge. He is excelling in academics, the teachers are patient, he has friends, and he likes to go to school. He was even glad to get back to school and his friends after Christmas holidays.

I can only judge leadership by the affect it has on everyone. The school has fun events for the family, the teachers seem happy and committed, and the office staff is always nice despite being busy all the time.

My grandson lives with his dad, my son, and the parental relationships are adversarial. The school recognized this and spent time determining how the school system could address this. They gave him the needed attention and found a program for him that provides support. It made a big difference especially to his self esteem and happiness. (His grades are mostly A’s so scholastic achievement was not the issue)

My grandson is very aware of what bullying is (and he has been bullied himself) and now he understands it’s not him —- it’s them. He has learned how to address the bullies and stick up for himself, and it has worked.

Horrible. Grandchild bullied threatened and physically hurt and nothing was taken seriously. Student told everyone gas bad days

Bullying is not investigated. Teacher denies bullying even after students report it and talks about other students in parent teacher conferences. Zero accountability and disibline is a joke. Principal states he cannot control each and every students spur of the moment actions even though my granchild has been physically attacked 4 times in the last 3 months and threatened multiple times including a pocket knife. Avoid this school unless you like to meet up with the principal, nurse and guidance multiple times a month

The school system is changing and for the better. For example there is a one-to-one initiative starting. Each student will have their own laptop. Innovative instructional approaches are happening everyday such as flipped classroom and a summer school built around project based learning. Come and be part of the change and future.

my daughter went to Charles City Elementary for pre k and Kindergarten and the her kindergarten teacher was very nasty towards her and nit picked every little thing she did. I walked in on her screaming at the top of her lungs at a child that had fallen in the floor because he tripped and she thought he was just up out of his seat. My daughter was treated poorly by her teachers and I would not even let my dog go to school there. My daughter couldn't even read a simple Cat in the Hat type book after being there for 2 years. In my opinion they only teach what is on the SOL's and nothing more. My daughter started in New Kent and within a month was reading a book and was MUCH happier to go to school because SHE LOVED HER TEACHER!! If I caould post behavior charts on here I would because my daughter got put on red one day for just putting her hood on her head while standing in line for the bus. SO if you have small children and want them to have a decent education in a school system that cares about them I suggest looking in another school district for a home.

My daughter attends Charles City Elementary school and she loves it. The principal, as well as all of the staff are very attentive to the students needs. They are very family oriented. Most principals only know faces, this principal knows names as well. I too was very worried about sending my child to school in Charles City. However, I am no longer worried and proud that my daughter attends school there. My only suggestion to parents whose child attends ANY school...get involved and stay involved. This makes a world of difference. Please whatever you do, don't send your child to school without any knowledge, respect for others or discipline. A teachers job is already difficult enough, it is not there job to rear your children.
