I'm a current eighth grader finishing my third year here at erms, and I think it's a pretty good school. It's really competitive, and the majority of people are at least taking algebra 1 by eighth grade. There's a lot of nice elective classes like language classes, robotics, FACS, etc, and everyone takes electives.

Like all schools it has some "bad kids" and some problems with vaping and such but nothing out of the ordinary. There is some bullying but not too much, the only thing I've noticed is that the school is really diverse but people mostly are friends with people of their own race and it gets cliquish. However, It's not that hard to make friends here everyone has at least a few friends here because there are so many people, so if you're moving here don't be worried.

The teachers are good, but I find that the hated, strict, teachers are the ones that actually teach us and the beloved chill ones are the ones who's classes I actually have to teach myself the material in. One thing is that we have a ton of tests here, which gets very tiresome, but we don't have that much homework. In some classes we have tests basically every other week and the teachers just say they're preparing us for high school.

Overall I would recommend this school but it's not the best school ever so don't move here just for erms.

I'm currently an 8th grader at ERMS, and I would say it's a pretty good school. We have a really good curriculum and most students take high school level classes, and honors classes. Most teachers are really nice and connect with the students, teachers such as Madigan, Mr. Boring, Mr. Carmalingo and more are teachers who I would consider trustworthy and experienced. But, there are very few teachers who literally bully the students, and sometimes even curse in front of them. Eagle Ridge is also REALLY diverse, I have friends from all over the world. The only thing I don't like about ERMS is that there's a lot of bullying, discrimination, and more recently vaping. Some students forget that the school is for learning and not being COMPLETELY rude to others even the teachers! Some students also say racial slurs and other derogatory terms. If we fix these things, Eagle Ridge would definitely be the best school in LCPS.

this was my first and last year here at eagle ridge and I would say that 8th grade was an enjoyable experiences one thing I had an issue with was teachers not giving kids good punishments and some teacher would teach classes like English and would give us nothing to do other than that my 8th grade year was pretty enjoyable counselors were nice staff members nice all very kind people

a lot of people are hating on this school or saying its mid but as someone who been a student here for 3 whole school year I would say this is a pretty good school sometimes the teachers are a bit mean but most of times its because we get on their nerves this school lacks a bit of electives though

My child went to this school since the 6th grade and she’s now in 7th. Everyday she always came home crying to me because kids would bully her and call her mean things. Not only the students, but teachers also bullied her which was wrong of them to do. The teachers here don’t do anything and slack off, that’s why my daughter complains to me about the learning environment everyday after school.

Eagle Ridge Middle school is not the best school. My child often comes home talking of instances where teachers bullied students. My child says that there are no student bullies, only teacher bullies. Some teachers such as Mrs. Roser, Mx Madigan, and Ms. Brawley are amazing teachers that connect with the students and help them learn better, But others, especially the 6th-grade resource teacher, do not care for the students and seem to only be there for the paycheck. There are also many unnecessary rules, some of which prevent students from going to the bathroom. That is a basic human need! They time how long children go to the bathroom, and ask for a reason when kids make electronic hall passes to go to the bathroom. Why do they need to know whether my child needs to go #1 or #2? They also encourage students to lie and pretend the school is perfect when figures of authority are visiting. Also, some teachers do not give students the opportunity to speak to each other at all, and when confronted, accuse the student of being disrespectful and unkind. Also, a student teacher for English in 6th grade called bisexual "inappropriate" while a student in the class was openly bisexual. How will our children feel safe when the teachers are not following the rules listed in the lcps policy (no discrimination)? According to my child, the Art and Music departments are the only ones with teachers whom they feel happy to learn. Once, my child cried because their advisory teacher yelled at them because they were trying to cheer up the class. This occurred after the teacher yelled at another student for standing up for another student. Basically, the whole class was sticking up for each other after the teacher yelled at one student. She referred half of them for "disrespectful behavior", while she was the one who yelled at a student for looking at the floor while she was talking about how the government in the US was horrible and democrats were attempting to take away our rights. Why are advisory teachers with an English major teaching students about how everyone should vote for republicans? She also encouraged them to start practicing for their driver's license test! They are not even legally allowed to do this. Overall, I would not recommend eagle ridge middle school. While some teachers are extremely kind and understanding, many are not, and use "respectfulness" as a reason to constantly demean students.

There is bullying but not from the students, sad to say. The teachers here have a sense of entitlement and can’t be bothered with students the t need help in class. My child is intimidated to ask follow up questions after one teacher told her said she refused to discuss what had been covered in class, excuse me? When my child was out on quarantine she fell behind and the teacher never discussed catching up not discussing what she missed. The principal is MIA( except for directing traffic in the morning ) and the Teachers need to be reined in. Not a caring environment, isn’t middle school difficult enough without unhelpful and short-tempered staff?

I go here, and the school is very nice. The principal is good, teachers are trying, and overall I enjoy it. However they have a serious bullying issue. A white boy called a black kid the n word and then pushed him, he ended up with a slap on the wrist (metaphor, he got warnings at lunch). I love the counselors, however I feel like punishments are not taken seriously. I was just holding hands with my friend in the hallway and a teacher yelled at us to keep our hands to ourselves, which I would understand if covid were still in its early days but it wasn't that serious?? And then when hate speech occurs, no one bats an eye. The students ourselves were more punitive than the staff, which hurts me. A lot of the teachers also have this mindset that we teach ourselves. When a student is absent some teachers tell them to review everything themselves, no matter for how long. Absurd. Homework isn't required in every class is what teachers say, but then they give us assignments in class that we don't get time for because of the lesson. I cook dinner and have soccer practice after school, which doesn't leave me a lot of time. If the school's staff cared more about the kids, I would give a five star. But this is my personal experience, everybody's is different..

This school is so boring for kids. There are no decent or interesting after-school activities. The principal is mediocre and not a great leader. The lunches are terrible (pizza and burgers every day). This school is very uninspiring and they focus heavily on grades only. My daughter is an honor student and they give tests and quizzes EVERY week without variation. It seems the school only care about scores. (home prices). The principal does not take direct calls, and the heavy-handed administrative person filters ALL calls.

This is one of the best schools in the nation. I love all the educators and they are very friendly and they care about our children's future!

I am so pleased with the new administration at ERMS. It is a great middle school and very academically competitive. My children thrived there. They have many clubs. I'm so excited the PTA started a wonderful drama club. I've enjoyed watching the brilliant musicals, terrific band and orchestra concerts and many other super events there. It was a pleasure to volunteer and being involved through the PTA.

Coming from the elementary school (which was simply wonderful), I had high expectations. These have not been met. The communication to parents is embarrassing, the attitudes of some of the teachers is appalling (though we have encountered a few amazing teachers, keyword: few), the school seems disorganized, and many of the teachers treat your child as an inconvenience (mine and as told by neighbors/friends). Not impressed and will be switching schools.

I am an eighth grader at eagle ridge. I'm new to the school and I was shocked to see how many cliques and bullying goes on in the school. I take french and the French teacher barely teaches anything and I'm scared that I'm going to fall behind when I get to french 3 in 9th grade. Another problem is that the teachers except for math all teach the same units we've gone over in past years. All in all never send your child to eagle ridge middle school or they will absolutely fall behind once they get to high school.

In 5th grade, my daughter had a lot of homework to prepare her for Middle school. In middle school, she had close to NO homework. Her grades were good and she took 2 years of French. She is now in high school and she is grossly unprepared for the homework load. Through the parent grapevine, I hear that Stone Hill MS prepares the students much better than Eagle Ridge(ER). My daughter learned close to nothing in French. She never had homework. How can you learn a language with no homework?All of the ER students that I know struggled and even quit French in High School. Stone Hill students were much better prepared. If we could afford to send our other kids elsewhere, we would. If you have an option, go somewhere else other than ER. I also have heard that one of the Spanish teachers at ER is terrible. My daughter had many strange stories about some of her teachers. There were a few that she really liked but overall, our experience there was terrible.

My issue isn't with any of the academic-related teachers, it is with some of the admin staff. My daughter's lunch funds hadn't posted to her account yet, & I didn't realize it. My daughter, who was new to the school, was embarassed when they wouldn't let her buy lunch due to insufficient funds (my mistake).When my daughter called me from the office, she was crying. I was unable to make it to the school in time to bring her cash, as I am a single parent, and I was working in MD that day. The secretary offered (I didn't ask) to loan my daughter lunch money for that day. She was so nice about it, and I thanked her and told her my daughter would pay her back within the next day or two. The next day I forgot to send my daughter with the $5 (my mistake again). While in class, the grade secretary (who wasn't even the lady who was involved) went to the classroom that my daughter was in and asked her out into the hallway. She then asked my daughter where the money that the secretary loaned her was. My daughter was humiliated.When I emailed the staff to bring up my concern, I was IGNORED. I can't believe this behavior by "teachers" over $5.My daughter is well behaved & in all AP classes.
