York River is an excellent option for a High Schooler who is interested in the field of computer science and technology. The scores on this site seem to incorporate AP classes as part of the rating, which they do not offer, unless you take on line. However, many students do opt to in the 11th and 12th grade years to take classes also at New Horizons, completing not only certifiactions, but getting dual-enrolled college credits as part of Virginia Pennisula Community College in coursework such as IT and cyber-security. In the early years, there is a focus on the students getting Microsoft Office Sutie Certifications.
The staff works very closely with the students as it is a small school. In particular they are very familar with IEPs and strive to have those students to become thier own advocates and become more independent.
The students also develop close friendships as they are very inclusive and socially accepting. They are working on developing more Clubs for the students. Sports do not exist at the school, but many of the students seem to be involved in other outside activities so that doesnt seem to be an issue.
If your student is not driven or strives to be the center of social attention at there school, over fizated on sports, and has interest in technology and a positve learnign environment, this may be the school for them.

My daughter really loves it there and did excellent with her grades compared to her previous ones. The best thing for her.

This school is the best school I ever been to. The teachers here are the best especially Mrs. Collier. I wish I can come back to YRA because everyone is so friendly. I really love this school and I am so glad that I attended and graduated from YRA.

This school Is a wonderful school. Small classroom sizes and the teachers are wonderful and care about their students.

This school is the best schools I had ever been to, Mr.Lorio, Mrs.Collier, every one of them, are some of the best teachers I had ever had, wish I could go back. This school has come so far, it has even been held in trailers at one point, and now they have their own rooms and buildings, they deserve it. Every teacher there actually wants to be there and they want to help you, i am telling you if you get the chance to go, GO, all you can do is try.
